Very good examples and clear video. Thanks for showing the different models. That shotgun had some good flames coming from the 1st 2 rounds during extraction. TURKEY said Limbsaver, you say Limbsaver - gotta get me some.

Thanks for the side by side comparison. A note about your style: when shooting light to medium recoiling rifles off of bags, your left hand on the rear bag or under the rear part of the stock as you had it is fine, but when shooting shotguns or heavy recoiling rifles, your left hand needs to be gripping the forend firmly. That is how you minimize the pain to the cheek.

Thanks for sharing, I'm not big on shooting 12g shotgun.

Very nice video. Thank you very much. I used to kick killer with all my shotguns because, as you said, I do not like the recoil pad snagging on my clothing. I normally shoot very light single barrel break action shotguns, which typically have a heavy recoil, so it is unpleasant to shoot them without some kind of recoil pad. The additional stock length also draws your face backwards down the comb of the stock and relieves pressure on your cheekbone. Thanks again.

I use the Pachmayr Decelerator slip-on on my Remington 700 BDLs and Marlin 1895 .45-70. The hard part on the butt is to minimize snagging on clothing when shouldering the rifle. I really appreciate the Decelerator on the .45-70. Marlin put a hard rubber butt plate on it that really hurts if you are firing with a thin shirt.

I am intrigued by the .450 Bushmaster. I am currently in the middle of reading "Elmer Keith Big Game Hunting." He was hunting with straight wall cartridges like the .35 Whelen, .450 Bushmaster, .375 Nitro Express. The main purpose is that a lot of the big game hunting is in wooded areas at less than 300 yards. And while accuracy is more important than bullet size, a bigger bullet expanding does make more damage, the idea being for the game to drop where it stands. That being said, many is the time he rump shot one and it got away. Or, he did get a bull elk and found a .30-30 lodged in the rump muscle from someone in the past. I have two weapons by Windham Weaponry but also notice in their catalog they have one, called the 450 Thumper, chambered in .450 Bushmaster. And of course, some of the big companies like Mossberg also have it bolt action and at a really low price. And the scope makers are getting into it. Vortex just released the Crossfire II 3-9/ 50 mm Straight Wall Dead Hold (a BDC) reticle designed around the averages of .450 Bushmaster, 350 Legend, and .45-70 Government. The are generally hashed out to 300 yards. Using this kind of scope makes sighting easier and more appropriate for the use, though you can use any scope. Either use a calculator to make a drop chart based on the ballistic info of your ammo, or use an app. Strelok Pro has libraries of scope reticles and factory ammo. Tap the reticle button and not only does it give you a graphic that shows the corrected articles on your subtensions, but if you have entered a distance and wind for a shot solution, it will also show how you should aim the reticle. 95 percent of hunting, from white tail to even moose is in wooded areas or near farm land. Elmer Keith intention was to blow a big hole and drop the animal now. He has shot 600 yards with hold overs, back in the 1920s when he was still kind of young (he passed away in 1984.) Some states and areas will only allow you to centerfire rifle hunt with this big and slow bullets precisely because they will not go far and the velocities are 2200 and slower. (Hornady .450 Bushmaster 250 gr muzzle velocity is about 200 fps.) They drop fast and so the idea is to have a soft tip or ballistic tip that expands and the big ole fat bullet stays inside instead of over-penetrating and ricochet off into something else. Others just want one for a hobby, which is okay.

Sometimes we don't get what we pay for... :) I definitely love the slip on limbsaver recoil pad. I have one that I switch between my 12 gauge , 243 and 30-30. I only use them at the bench due to the hard plastic non pad each one has. Like you said... the only one that is truly uncomfortable is the 12 gauge without a recoil pad. My cheek takes most of the abuse too. Lastly... use what works vs what looks good 🙂
