Due to these being regulated, they are built to be bomb proof, last a lifetime, and thus costing more. From what I understand, cans over in Europe are built with less quality parts and are pretty much throw away items.

@@philbaker29 Late from party but: Had to remember that in europe we have quite clear difference with supressors made for rimfires and actuall rifles. Cans for actual centerfire calibers are made with high standards to last about lifetime. Rimfire cans otherhand doesnt had to withstand nothing but 22wmr/17hmr at max. So those can be made cheap. My 17hmr bolt have supressor meant for .22 caliber But it is still rated for both mag calibers. And it costed only 40e for me. And supressor is still gun related item so cant have it without lisence for actuall firearm. So even it it not actually regulated who owns it. Still not legal to sell/give it to anybody whitout lisence. Or thrown to trash without making it unusable first. Overally: Easy to get, cheap to have, hassle free to use but giving it away takes bit responsibly.

@@dennisoven9259 In Finland when i got my .17hmr bolt i got local made .22 version can. It had 45e price tag but got small discount because i bought whole packet, rifle,scope,rings and supressor. And that was 21 january. Those same cans are still sold about 45-55e range.

The Dead Air Mask HD is probably the best rimfire can ever created, IMO. There are lots of good ones, but the Mask was designed near perfection. 17-4ph Stainless Steel baffles, mount, and end cap can all be ultrasonic cleaned. The tube is grade-5 titanium, and CANNOT be ultrasonic cleaned, or it will damage it. A simple wipe-out with a paper towel soaked in RemOil or a RemOil wipe and it's good to go. Not to mention the Mask HD has virtually NO first-round pop. It's super quiet, and rated for up to 5.7x28. It's worth every penny. Just a heads-up, your Mask HD is assembled backwards... The smooth end of the tube where the serial number and logo is, is supposed to be the end where the end cap goes on... It's supposed to look like a mini Sandman... Just in case you need a reference on which direction the tube should be. If you look, the female threads inside the tube are different lengths...And the longer threads go into the 1/2x28 mount end, and the shorter threads (logo & writing side) are for the end cap end. 👍🏼

Dead air saved the k baffle from extinction. That being said, I'd still take a rugged style radial though. I think that the pocketed radial design is the best traditional baffle designed.

Yup, these videos are meant to be my experience and opinion. As far as product specifications, you can find most of that online for the a Mask, but the TM-22 has no details on the website so I don’t even know. As far as suppression data, I don’t have a sound meter that can accurately report that (they’re extraordinarily expensive). Thanks for watching though!

It doesn't have to be expensive to work well. Just well designed. A friend made his own from pvc pipe with a half dozen baffles made from drilled out coins. On his old martini action target rifle it shot 1 moa and with eley subs was so quiet that bullet impact was always the loudest sound by far.

Since the tax is identical for cheap vs expensive, it makes more sense to go for quality than for economic efficiency. Good video ✅.

In US with the tax stamp ,expensive makes sense ,for us that can buy suppressors over the counter it doesn't , you get decent performance in suppresors that cost even less than this cheap one.

It's a tough call, that 130 becomes 330 plus tax and waiting an eternity vs. 600 and still waiting an eternity. Since the time pressure is so low to save up you may as well just save up for the nicest can you think you'll enjoy.

I'm no expert, but the "cheap" one looks like it has suffered baffle strikes... which could be some of the indicated "machining" differences between the baffles and would almost certainly shift the point-of-impact.

Thanks for the video... Might have been a lot better video if you had at least took the time to clean the baffles so we could see them. The nicer supressors are usually made from titanium that is much more durable compared to the $200 models. If I am going to pay the government a tax on it either way, I will buy the longer lasting model.

It literally doesn’t mean that all. Maybe go listen to some podcasts with some of the guys who design these things. Depending on caliber, there’s a LOT of consideration into what makes it quietest. Baffle spacing, number of baffles, shape of baffles, list keeps going. I specifically remember the YHM guys talking about how they’ll test new cans and find that one less baffle or two less with different spacing, etc would be quieter than more closer together in some situations. It’s absolutely not as simple as the more baffles stuffed in the tube the quieter. .22 suppressors are a prime example. There’s old monocore designs that meter exactly the same as newer suppressors with baffle designs that have more chambers. If what you say is correct, the baffle design cans should far outperform, yet they don’t. They handle frp a little bit better and that’s where it ends.

Are in-house made suppressor just as good as the ones made by companies that makes suppressor? I went and bought my very first suppressor on this FFL dealer that also had license to make and sell suppressor, he had me convinced to buy their in-house made which was $210 less over a branded one, and told me it didn’t justify the extra $210 for a branded one since the noise difference weren’t much different. Which I find it odd because a business establishment usually makes sure that they have good profit. It was for a 22lr can btw.

For $400, dead air is giving you a life time warranty, complexly machined baffles, and premium materials. I'd say, worth it since you'll have to wait 230-270 days either way. If the wait and $200 stamp didn't exist, we'd be flooded with cheap $20 aluminum monocores and it would definitely be hard to justify a $400 .22lr suppressor.

No. You don’t want to do that. Because the pressure of a 223/556 center fire cartridge is MUCH higher than a rimfire 22lr

It's also worth noting that if you have a user-serviceable .223/5.56 can (such as one that has a removable monocore), you can use it for .22lr. The .22lr will get it very dirty very quickly, but if you can clean it then you'd be fine. But yes, pushing 5.56 through a .22lr can will most likely end pretty badly as the .22lr cans just aren't rated for those types of pressures.

You can’t use a rimfire suppressor ina 5.56. You can use a 5.56. Suppressor on a rimfire gun but it’s a bad idea due to increased carbon and leading.

This is a nice review of the components of the suppressors, but it leaves out the most important thing, which is, how much do the reduce the sound of the gun being fired? I really think that this video is relatively worthless.

Well here’s the thing with measuring sound suppression in decibels - it doesn’t really work that way. It’s a great starting point, but there’s so much more to take into account. Check out Jay at PewScience to read up more about the dynamic challenges with suppression ratings. Additionally, a quality sound meter that can measure suppressed gunfire will cost close to $8,000-$10,000 with very specific calibration. I’m just some guy who wants to share his things and give personal impressions and overviews, so the content will be admittedly shallow

I would hate to burst anyone's bubble, however, a "muffler" can be made at home for less than $10. Or, use a 24in barrel rifle and standard velocity 29gn Shorts @ 710fps. and the 40gn RN at the same low speed. No muffler needed. I have used both rounds for Groundhogs, Rats, and Rabbits. For O S O K, head shots are a must.

If you were doing a comparison, and you don’t do a decibel test, did you really compare them? You sound as if you work for a dead air mask. You should redo this video with the sound comparison and decibels. That’s why people buy it. Make them understand what they’re getting for the extra money.

I have gotten this comment a few times. The problem is that an accurate decibel reader that can properly pick up a suppressed shot from a firearm is close to $10,000. On top of the cost, it needs to be properly calibrated for the task at hand (gunfire). Check out the video "Why Don't You Use a dB Meter When You Test Cans?" from VSO Gun Channel for a better explanation on this.

Thanks for the feedback! I did edit the video with the correct material - you can see at the 4:00 mark I mention the baffles are SS while the tube is Titanium. When I uploaded this video Dead Air didn't specify the materials for the tube, so it was a best guess. At the time of this commend, Dead Air does mention more specifically that the tube is made from "Titanium 3Al-2.5V Grade 9"

Which part of what I said is incorrect? I’m assuming when I state I believe the Mask is quieter because it has more baffles? It’s well known that a well-designed can with more internal volume will be quieter, but the TM is not a well-designed can while the Mask is. If you had two cans, both 1.5” in diameter, and one was 7” long with two baffles in it, and one was 6” long with seven baffles in it, which would be quieter? My bet would be on the 6” can with 7 baffles. If I misunderstood your comment, then please feel free to correct me!

@Modern Sporting volume has nothing to do with baffles, and more baffles dont = "quietier" reports. slowing and cooling the gas down as much as possible is what's relevant. I've fired suppressors containing 4 baffles that were quietier than sups with 10 baffles. baffle & tube design matter more than quantity. this is why firearms with ported barrels and integrated suppressors are much quietier- there's 3x more empty space for the gas. old school antiquated suppressors pack their cans with baffles- modern day highly developed cans use les baffles and design ways to channel the flow of gas to increase contact & cooling. the cheaper larger suppressor you have actually has more potential.

So my point was if you had two cans that were identical in diameter, and same baffle design, but one was longer with much fewer baffles than one slightly shorter with many more baffles, which will be quieter? @Modern Sporting not only did i already answer that question, but you answered it yourself.... identical can design, identical baffles... the can that has more volume is quietier. again- more baffles doesn't = less report. you reach a point where adding another baffle is no longer efficient and hampers performance. the more "wall" around a bullet as it travels throught the baffle, the more "tube" you create- bullets lose more velocity exiting an unsuppressed muzzle than they do leaving the suppressor- other words, suppressors can actually maintain a bullets velocity and the more baffles you use CAN work against you- this is why porting a barrel BEFORE the bullet reaches the baffle stack is key to reducing the velocity and slowing the bullet down to sub sonic speeds before it reaches the baffle. this is how integrated suppressors work. all my statements have maintained their intended context.

I was excited to watch this video... but this is the most ignorant review ever. Literally the TM baffle is almost the same as the Dead Air... other than the dead air has a ring pressed on each K Baffle. By keep saying the TM has bad or horribly done "milling"... Baffle alignment has no bearing on shift. This is commercial marketing garbage. This is a review with little to no real facts.

Without a shooting comparison, all of the hard work you did in filming all the differences in the stacks is completely irrelevant. A shooting comparison will show the exact difference and you did not include a shooting comparison. In other words, you wasted everybody’s time. You went through all of the trouble of showing and explaining all of these different baffle configurations and what not. But you did no shooting comparison? Why? Why would you not include a shooting comparison? Your review is completely inadequate. Why didn’t you figure that out when you were making the video? I don’t trust anything that you’re going to review if you do a breakdown of the construction of silencers, but then you don’t do a breakdown of the quietness of the suppressors. In 1934 the tax was astronomical. in 1994 the tax was high, but some ppl could afford it. in 2014 the tax became a viable payment for upper middle class. in 2024 the tax will become somewhat smallish thanks to Bidenomics and Corona. Silencers will become as common for average gun owners as red dots in 2000 (cca 30% will have at least 1 one) NFA will gradually become less and less tenable, easier to repeal.
