Haven't had a chance to test if it holds zero, but mounts just fine and has nice clear glass. Centered vertically true to a plumb line with the crosshairs which is always a plus!It's a great kzbin.infoUgkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W8hE scope. There's no parallax adjustment or focus ring, so may be limited to 3-7x, have to see how it is on the range. Also be aware that the rings are "look through" so you can still use irons, but they are really tall if you only intend to use the optics. On a 22LR no biggie since I'm not shooting competitions or worried about a hard cheek press. Will boresight and range test, if all goes well, I'll leave it at that!

The bigger "end" is called an objective lens. A larger objective lens does not necessarily provide a larger field of view. Generally, the field of view in a scope is determined by the magnification combined with the focal length of the objective/eyepiece combination. A larger objective lens does provide for a larger exit pupil which is an advantage in low light conditions and when using higher magnification.

Cheaper spotting scopes have color separation at higher powers. On the cheaper one at 60x zoom, you can see the purple start to separate from the black on the target. Colors will start to separate into the colors of the rainbow the higher zoom power you apply
@Dr.Pepper0012 жыл бұрын
Yes, that purple ring ruins it for me. The more expensive scopes have fully multicoated lenses, but the cheaper ones have multicoated lenses. I'm a purest and the aberration is a show stopper. However, so is the $1,500 price tag on the vortex. I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't.

Great video. I really enjoyed it. Just an interesting development, SVBONY has updated the SV46 with Extremely Low Dispersion (ED) glass and dual focus. It is called the SV46P ED 20-60x80. It has an MSRP of $329. I believe it dropped Nov 26, 2020. SVBONY also makes the SV 406P (also 20-60x80), with ED glass, but it has a replaceable eyepiece with a standard 1.25" interface, for those that like that feature. I cannot afford the Vortex scopes. They are very good. (Update) I bought the 46P ED one I mentioned above. It is fantastic at 100yds, which is the only distance I needed to reach. Thanks guys!

Great comparison. It would be interesting to know if they came from the same factory. Although the resolution is similar in both models, the colour aberration in the cheaper one is one clue about the quality of the optics. I believe that apart from the guarantee of the Vortex it is also water and fog proof. After a time you might get some humidity finding its way into the cheaper model in temperate or humid climates and this can cause fogging and mould growth over time which in some cases is impossible to polish out.

At some point within the past few years Vortex bought their spotters directly from CHINA when they previously imported their Razor line from Japan. I wonder if yours was the Chinese Vortex Razor compared to the Chinese SVbony. That was a real shocker when I heard about Vortex selling Chinese spotters under their high end Razor line label.
@vernonbice732 Жыл бұрын
Based on this review (mainly) I bought the Svbony. I use it for a target spotting scope so resolution was way more important than chromatic aberration. If you read the specs you'll find the higher quality optics are not used in this one so you will get the color issues at higher magnification. If you want photographic quality images at higher magnification levels you need a more expensive scope. I do not need photo quality, only the resolution. As you can see in the video the resolution of the objects was as good as the more expensive scope. I have verified at the shooting range that the resolution is good enough to see 6mm bullet holes at 600yd, even with a bit of mirage. It starts getting 'iffy' at 700-800yd. At 1000yd you can see the holes if you use one of the 'color change' targets. At these ranges the mirage can sometimes 'swamp' the image.

Havent you guys noticed the cromatic aberration? Color is totally unnnatural on the cheap scope when totally zoomed.
@johnroberts66954 жыл бұрын
It took you guys long enough to get started, but I would urge people to get the cheaper model. You're not going to see a huge difference in the image sharpness unless you do critical comparisons of the absolute edges, and most people aren't going to notice that. Where you're going to see the biggest difference is in the _colors_ in the images. I had a Swift® 15-60x 60mm back in the 1970s and it was horrible compared to today's budget scopes. Even scopes costing $100 today (w/BAK4 prisms) are far, far, far better than my Swift scope, which set me back $189! Still, I loved watching the mountains with that Swift! Technology has greatly improved lens quality, and sharpness hadn't been the issue. It's the color. The more expensive glass will provide better color balance and separate the colors better and won't let them bleed. But if you only want sharpness, spend $139 and get a Landove® x20-60 80mm. If you want white whites, spend the extra $$$ and you will be happy.

In contrast, The target on the svbonny has a strange halo around the edge between the black and the white. If money isn't an issue..that you have a very well paid job or something i say get the Vortex.. but if your income is in bad shape.. the vortex will severely hurt your finance. Interesting review guys, thanks! Side to side the 60x zoomed image makes a big difference in the colours on a white object as seen. That is important cause imagine you are spotting some raindeers over snow, the cheap telescope would be a nightmare! You would never ever find a polar bear then, hahaha! Well, exactly the same on a very bright landscape or some white animals like swans or herons. May not look like too much difference at first glance, but you easily can get tired of that unnnatural colour patterns everywhere as soon as you begin to use intensively the scope, even more if you want to make quality pictures with it. Yes, the price difference is huge, but in this sort of things for getting a fraction of improvement you have to spend a lot of money more for the quality multilayer treatments of glass and things like this. I think that if you are not into serious use of the scope, and not use it often, the cheap one is the logic choice, but if you are into serious use of it, you should think about this issue, maybe making tons of unnnatural pictures will not be a good deal for you.

My Redfield is the same quality as the knock off with better edge quality. The Vortex has greater contrast, minimal chromatic aberrations, higher resolution and almost absent that white magnified smoky haze from lower cost glass. The improvements from good quality to higher quality glass are subtle and mostly noticed only by those who are obsessing about their scopes, or those with many hours on them. What I saw was exactly what Id expect in those price ranges. My friend’s Athlon Talos is a freak.When I look through it, I like it better than the Vortex. However, review videos Ive seen of it show images of what I’d expect at that price range. I am skeptical all Talos are like I saw. Really want to look through a second unit.

Expensive at $900? Try Swarovski or Leupold scopes. North of $3,000 bucks! 😂🤣😂

The sv def has false color but who cares when you just wanting to see where the bullet holes are.

At 100 yards the SV has the purple hugh. I would bet at 500 plus it's terrible.

I think people on here are downplaying how bad the cheap glass is. The vignette and color issues etc. and poor glass is always made to look not as bad on video and good glass is always made to look worse. Also keep in mind the razor is at the price range where the extra money isn’t really for better glass as much as it is for better quality internals and keeping the scope lightweight and durable etc

Both have really bad chromatic aberration and bad edge sharpness. Likely the glass is from the same factory, but the vortex just gets a slightly better coating. I'd be interested to see if the newer models are sharper

I guess Vortex is extra-low-dispersion glass - Vortex 'HD' seems equivalent to everyone else's 'ED'. Svbony have a new ED model - SV406P also takes any 1.25" standard astronomy eyepiece - better quality because fixed magnification and wider field, too.

250 compared to almost 1500 That's a big difference if you would have tested one at 650 compared to 1400 it would have been more fair but you can't beat the $250 one for the price

Lots more chromatic aberration on the cheaper scope and lots more Vignetting . for viewing might not be that big of a deal but for photography the expensive model is magnitudes better.

in bad lighting is where you separate a budget scope from a expensive one, it's like a standard lens vs a ED lens you can hardly see any difference in bright light but at dusk and dawn it's like chalk and cheese

Victor Alexander not necessarily!Everything depends on the glass and coatings.i have seen cheaper scopes that had good glass and fully coated that were every bit as good as expensive models just didn’t have unneeded bells and whistles.
