i’m an editor on fiverr and i’ve met these people that looked like the first guy you messaged: trying to get the money and not putting effort in. my number one goal when i started was to be the opposite of that- i spend hours on my work and want to build connections with my clients… this was a really interesting video to watch from my point of view ed, thank you! it’s inspired me to go even further!

When I was hiring editors weekly like you I'd get 100s of replies from people who didn't even read my requirements, I would towards the end of my post point out only applicants who use the subject line "purple monkey dishwasher" would be considered - the first requirement is to hire someone who takes the time to read exactly what I want, this reduced my workflow by 80%

As an editor, I feel embarrassed for the 145$ one, because he should've known that the best optimized way to put substitles in shorts is either in the middle or in the upper side. Though the 25$ one really did a good job except for the subtitles

One tip I have for folks looking to hire an editor for a specific platform like KZbin or TikTok is to have one of your screening questions be something like “List 3 KZbin creators your watch regularly and tell me what you like about their content.” This lets you quickly separate those who actually are consumers of content on the platform and understand the style, vs those who just have random editing experience cutting TV commercials for their local car dealership. The hardest thing I’ve found about hiring an editor is finding someone who understands the sensibility of the platform. Editing for KZbin or TikTok is it’s own specific genre almost.

Bullshit. Knowing Tiktok is overmistified, not a big deal. As an editor I tell you, there is nothing in it that would be hard to mimic. And no, I never check who is the creator of a video, do you think anyone ever does? Actually any kid can put a Tiktok video together, and actually almost all of those "creators" are 15y old kids.

"reconstructed for your pleasure" 😂 well thank you! that chat was hilarious. I really liked the 3rd edit most although the glitches were a bit disruptive/much imo! And there was no b-roll when you said "which you can see right here". That being said though - 3 has A LOT of potential! and great value for money if you ask me :)

Hiring people on UpWork (or any platform) is an art in itself. I usually add a random qualifier in the middle of the job description (EX: Start your application with your favorite color in all caps to show you've read this.) If they don't - it's an automatic ignore. Sometimes I add a 2nd filter and request a short 60 second Loom recording of them talking about their experience, the creators they follow, etc. Usually the 1st step is enough, but when hiring for full-time positions the second step saves a ton of headache.
@cescimes
@cescimes 6 ай бұрын
that's interesting! from the point of view of a freelancer it seems like a bit of gimmick. i stumble upon those kinds of filters and honestly chuckle to myself, but i definitely understand where it's coming from. i do try to emphasize in my replies that I've seen them

I was surprised that you would have nothing to change on the 3rd video -- it felt super repetitive (most of it was a bit of you, then a bit of screenshot, repeated like 5-10 times in a row)! But I do get that the editor nailed other aspects that the other editors had failed with, and it was very informative that you pointed that out; it brought out details I would've missed otherwise... :) Anyway! Great video as always!! :)

The problem with this plattform is framed in a little example: Would you look for a dentist on such a plattform? No, because you know YOU have to make the effort to find a good dentist. People offering services on those sites and messaging YOU kinda shows that nobody else wants to work with them.

Excellent work, you give some really great tips for digital media creators 👏 I liked your final choice but the only thing I didn’t like was the interference type effect. Was used too much and kinda jarring. Another thing, it was great that the key part of text was shown, but the changing of angle each time wasn’t ideal for me. Although I do see keeping a flat look would be slightly boring. Clearly Yt doesn’t help a first short, how often should one post shorts to see traction ? 🙏 ty
