I've been using a similar but much older WiFi bridge (from a different manufacturer) since 2015. It connects my apartment with my office over a distance of around 210m. It works surprisingly stable even in heavy rain or snowfall. I can achieve data rates of around 400 Mbit/s. However, for better data rates it is necessary to mount the transceivers a few meters off the ground in order to use the full 'Fresnel zone' of the electromagnetic waves.

I used to run a 3 hop 5Ghz back to back setup in order to get internet at our cabin. A few things learned- get the antennas up in the air and away from anything within line lf sight. Google fresnel zone- you do not want anything within your fresnel zone in order to get a good high speed stable connection. This also apply to the ground. If you decide to make an offgrid solar setup- check to see what poe voltage the equipment can run of. I had my ubiquity 24V dishes running straight from a 12V battery bank👍

That's a nice setup. Years ago, I setup a Wifi Router in my Garage. To be a Wifi Repeater. Since my Wifi Signal was too weak to break through, out there. It worked pretty well. I didn't get the full 54mbps. But, it was good enough, to look things up out, there. When I was out there working on stuff. Also, I had Ethernet working on the Router too. So, I could plug in Computers, that didn't do Wifi. After a few years, of the TX summer Heat. The speed, became very slow. First, I used a Zonet Router. It had the Wifi Repeater, built in to the Firmware. Later I put DDWrt on a Linksys WRT54G Router. To give it Wifi Repeater Functions. But it didn't last very long in the heat. Now the Linksys, is below 1mbps. Not usable, any more. But, I don't go out there and work in the Garage, very much any more... Great Project:) Don

I had 700feet of cat6 ..it worked ..but forest critters constantly chewed the wire and I needed to splice it alot ..I ended up mixing cooking oil with cyan powder and spraying the wire weekly to stop the chewing. ..That worked for a few years ..Ive changed to sattelite net now so i dont need the cat6 wire anymore

Lowest Cost option - Direct burial/Outdoor Cat5 + 2x Mikrotik GPER (Ethernet POE repeaters) This would give you a full duplex connection to the top of the hill w/o any 5Ghz interference/loss. And can push passthough power the Mikrotik LTE router. Alternatively you could use something such as a Ubiquiti Gigabeam 60/5Ghz point to get a near 1.6-1.9gb connection (half duplex and 800mbps each direction instead of the 5Ghz solution.) I would not expect any PTP wireless bridge on 5Ghz to push over 650mbps on an 80mhz channel. And that will be subject to a ton of loss. There are options to bind multiple 5ghz channels but that would be more along the line of a multiple Ubiquiti Airfiber5xHD configured with NxN radio options... Most of the off the shelf tplink or other paired wireless bridges will not reliably push that much data over that much distance w/o a better antenna pair.

If you do stick with the 5Ghz bridge system know that it is either using a 20mhz or 40mhz channel, and that any home use channels can be conflicting, be it your own or your neighbors. The retransmission on it can cause slowdowns on use, of your own home wifi, when trying to also send data across the bridge. Any channel spacing will help. You may also want to weather seal the dc/ethernet ports not in use to prevent corrosion over time from killing the unit. But a hard wired option of Fiber + DC over 250m and or Ethernet + with GPER repeaters would be far more reliable.

That way, even if ethernet signal gets degraded, you'll still have PoE for power and fiber for data. And here's a side idea: put a powerful outdoor WiFi antenna there (facing yourhome) and cover all your area with network (for IoT ans automation stuff).

I we seen 4G antena and Wifi bridge ap combined consume quite a bit of power could be 10 - 15w. From experience you need bigger solar panel and battery than you think in the begining. For bad weater you need oversize to maybe 150-250w panel and 1kwh of batteries to get 95% uptime over few cloudy days, it helps a lot if you turn off the units with smart relay at night when you dont need internet. That night power saving can save on system size and cost, but i guess the worst is to undersize it and have bad internet still. It may get expensive but should save labour to go solar on the hill. I saw in the Bridge firmware that there was an option to turn off the radio,, the wifi in periods of time. That could save power. But biggest saving it that both the 4G router and the bridge runs of 12volt, so no need to convert anything.

This was helpful. I just setup a bridge between two houses about 85 yards apart. ISP was on the B side, wasn't getting internet on the A side. Needed to adjust LAN settings on the devices. Suggest confirming that folks are using CAT6 and not CAT5 cables, to ensure highest speeds. Switches should be gig capable.

Yeah Cat6 is the recommend cables for this product. ( And other like it)...thou it sometimes pay to upgrade to a Cat7 for the better shielding for outdoor use since it helps lower interference from bad weather/thunder. And in the vent you run a cable under ground.

The LAN port is 1 Gbps, the radios however are 802.11ac dual radio dual antenna (this seems to be the typical configuration of hardware inside the radome tube). If you set them to a static frequency and set the bandwidth on both to 80 MHz they will max out at 867 Mbps in a perfect world. 10 - 650 Mbps is more realistic depending on terrain, below tree line obstructions, weather conditions, and distance. The ethernet cable can also play into this because gigabit needs all 8 conductors on the cat6 to work. this means if you have a power injector, router, network switch, that is not gigabit then everything from that device on will be throttled down to 10 / 100 Mbps. Likewise if your netword adapter in your PC is not gigabit, same throttle applies but only on your PC.

Yeah, a setup like this would cap out around 480mbs. Only time it would hit the perfect 650mbs in cases where there's no trees, buildings, or windows in the way. Edit: I bought a similar product for my Grandmother on account Xfinity was going to charge her $6,000 to run a internet line up her long drive way and into her home..so I got a Wifi Bridge so she can share my Internet. My plan is 1.5gbs up&down and she gets around 320mbs. Which is plenty fast for her, since all she have on it is her Phone, Streaming stick, and Tablet.

Hi Morten! We have a similar system from MikroTik selling at DKK 2000 + VAT. And at least at shorter distances it actually deliver close to 1 Gbps Full Duplex. This system runs on 60 GHz with a backup on 5 GHz.

Morten, The whole reason your laptop didn't have internet is because you statically set the IP to a network range that is not routeable at your house. You didn't need to change those 2 radios IP's to test the network: just set as DHCP without even logging into the radios web UI. 🥳🤜🤛

The point of that extra 100Mbit lan connector could be to hook the bridge up to existing PoE wiring for a camera, without losing connection for the camera. Thoughtful detail. If you worst case get to need to dig a cable, you could also use a long network cable, and PoE.

Getting microwaves to go through trees can be a problem. Personally in your situation I would use a network-over-power system like TP-link TL-PA4010, and combine the data and power requirement into a single wire. I have a 200m run like this from my cabin to the main house delivering internet and power in opposite directions. There are multiways at both ends of the wire, and an outdoor inline plug-socket in the middle and it works fine. In my experience, laying a wire across the ground is easy and quick, and will last until soome small creature decides to chew it, which is usually about 5 years. I lay it over the bushes and everything and within the next 6 months the plant growth overtakes it and it dissapears. I would advise using bright blue wire if possible, siince everything else becomes impossible to find if you need to. (I also followed kreosan's DIY 4G antenna video that gets me solid 4G signal at a distance of over 30km but thats another story)

Another thought, if you really want no wires, your 4G-wifi router that you plan to put up the hill will probably have enough signal without the fancy antenna to the tower 1.5km away, so the fancy antenna could be used to cast the wifi signal from the router down the hill to the house, and you can connect to it directly. ... only if the router has antenna connections for both 4G and wifi... mine only has 4G antenna connections on the back.

Do the bride-devices have all the needed test-labels (CE, FCC,...) for using it in europe? I can recommend Unifi-bridges. Tried a 2.4 GHz Bride years ago. Has 45km reach. And a few years later the first gen of Wifi-AC briges, which worked great. I built some PtP-Connections between buildings with no line of sight and with huge trees and some warehouses between. Really stable in every weather-condition. I have built many PtP-connections in all this years. Started with Dlink APs and yagi-antennas. Then TP-Link with patch-antennas. Then Unifi.

Hi there, I am new to these long range wifi extenders. I want to have a Eufy camera at a farm gate that is 600 metres from the house. From my findings so far, it looks like one of these units at the farm gate with a Eufy home base connected to it. I can link one or several cameras to the Eufy Homebase. A solar panel and battery setup would be required for the homebase and wifi extender. The cameras have their own battery and solar panels. Back at the house would be the mating extender connected to the router. I understand you may not be familiar with Eufy cameras, but does this sound correct in what I hope will work?

was using Ubiquiti Loco AC's but found they were unstable in some weather conditions, have since upgraded to Nano Beams AC's which have been good... only thing I do not quite like about either of the 2 models is that they're all Passive POE(24v); got one of the Nano Beam's for free and one was a amazon return(on discount), had been tempted to buy generic but found that most did not have gigabit ports, limiting things to 10/100, definitely will be tempted again when 802.11ax becomes more standard

@@MyPlayHouse for info sake, I'm using them at about 100meters~; Canadian/North American city, line of site but houses everywhere/etc..... when I was looking I asked enGenius support about their 802.11ax AP's(pretty solid looking units, don't look like toys:P; would be expensive but researching) and their support suggested that for my use case(distance) the Loco's should be better as they have beam forming(I guess like Tesla Skylink)...I mention this cause if those ap's don't cut it, definitely consider still looking at something ubiquiti or similar that has beam forming as that may improve your odds; my issue with the loco's was more about hardware stability, the nano beams definitely solved that.... speeds is about the same as when loco's were running well

Hi morgan Lan1= with poe (2 wire use for power) Lan2= without poe, 1Gbps use full 8 wire in lan cable. 100Mbps use 4 wire , because of that you cant use both 1G and poe at same cable.

That was also what I thought! But reading the "manual" Lan1 is just 10/100M and no PoE, and Lan2 is 10/100/1000M with PoE. My best guess is that Lan1 is an extra port,, to connect a cam or a wifi AP..

Twisted pair Ethernet drivers use transformer isolation. Real PoE (as opposed to poor man's PoE) center taps the wire-facing windings of those transformers so they can pass power without losing data pairs.

You know if you buy old tech pre 2007 WiFi.. It has a stronger signal as they didn't consider the congestion issue back then. Don't go for a LFP battery winter will kill it. Lead would work. I also think you'll see around 18-20w draw peaks. Around 432w per day. So you would need a 860w of storage for the dull days. 12v la 70ah should work fine. * If you're going to use fibre, look now for the router as you may find powering it an issue. Now you need Solar, charge controller, poles, battery box, postmix concrete, Wedges (antenna angle). You have limited yourself and maybe a dipole on the other port would have given you better area home/ garden/community WiFi to use. But that can be another video. I designed WISP's back in 2004-6 and I still have some of the kit. 8db antenna, 30db parabolic, 6db flat, even some home made that was tested for 2.4miles range but we could get up to 30miles with the bigger toys. When putting anything up a hill, don't forget wind is a issue.. or a turbine? Solar is cheap where you are as well. So should be easy to find. Back in the day you could get dual stream routers, it is how we boasted speeds at a single point. Not sure if it's worth a content of trying to max the speed of the connection. Also check in town for a link. Ireland went WiFi over the cables that got broken more so. So they have a good network based on wireless tech.(rural internet/ last mile WiFi)

I think the 18-20W drain is set to high,, as the 4G router says 6W MAX, and this bridge was like 2-4W. So I think 8-10W is more likely (and it just happens to be so lucky that both the 4G router and the Bridge can use 12V - less loses) I think it will be like 240Wh a day. And I hope to manage that with a 30W solar panel,, like what I did here : kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5TZmnuNqNyHeLs a good car battery should then be able to do a good 3 days. I imagine that when the internet is not being used,, it would use less power,, so maybe even like 4-6W at night.

@@MyPlayHouse your test showed more stand by power, did you take a look when it was sending and receiving? If you have a small panel, you may get issues, winter time when the panel performance is a lot less. I don't have a clue how bad, perhaps about 50-65% less power?? It would be ideal if you could have some form of on off timer or trigger so you can save power. Don't forget losses in any conversion, a LA battery loses a lot in charge and discharge.

I saw power usage of 2-4W directly from 12volt. and 5W when using the 230AC to 12V DC power brick in the other end. I will only get issues in the winter time. All summer I can power near by city's with a 30W panel :-) There are about 271 Average sunny days a year (where my house is) and even in the lowest month of January Average sunshine a day is 5h and 6min. There are 94 not sunny days left. That is 26%. I would estimate that 50% of them would still produces enough power to run the 4G & Bridge, but not put anything on the battery for night or next day. That leaves roughly 50days (in most likely Nov, Dec, Jan) where it will have to run off battery with some or almost non help from the solar panel. (it does have to be really gray for it not to make 1-2W) But yes, if too many of those come in a roll (as they probably will) I do run in to power issues. The firmware of the bridge can turn on/off the radio on a schedule,, that probably saves power.

10BASE-T1L would easily do power and data over that distance, but would naturally be 10/10. I have grown to dislike wifi bridges. Maybe sweet-talk someone at FS into providing you with their 'tactical' OM4 cable, and run that to the top? With the way we've been mistreating them, you could probably just stake it down with lawnmower robot 'guide wire nails' and let the vegetation grow over it.

Don't you have line of sight already from your house? I mean have you looked at a link calculator ? Because Cell towers are usually pretty tall. Maybe a little pole with the dish at the roof of your house will get you a stable connection as well. That would be much easier and cheaper then putting a solar powered battery with 4G router and those plasticky wifi bridge up there, i can hardly believe these are real weather proof. And even if you have a good 4G connection, you are still sharing bandwidth, maybe the connection wasn't the problem. I would definately do some more tests if i was you before putting up that entire setup.

There is a 50 meter mountain between me and the cell tower. And the mountain is right next to me. The tower would need to be probably the world's highest, for me to have line of sight from the house.

@@MyPlayHouse Let's call it a hill not a mountain and you said there was about 230 meters between your house and the top of that hill. Just make sure you test 4G on top of the hill first before you go out and buy all the stuff. You might be disappointed if the speed is not much higher. It all depends on the used frequencies, how much capacity the tower has, often the more cheaper the carrier, the less speed you get. (capped) So there is alot of things to keep in mind.

They look like PtMP devices. I don't think that in ideal conditions they will reach more than 300mbps. Ubiquiti has the LBE-5AC-GEN2, they are cheap and they should reach 300mbps easily if the freznel zone is free and there are no other antennas close, they don't use a lot of power so you can use batteries to keep them running during the night. I have a couple for a 5 Km link, it manages to get a real speed of 120mbps.... inside a city full of consumer modems using 5GHz band and there are 2 trees on the way. Also, don't test them so close to each other, some claim they can get damaged that way.

hello, I bought similar equipment, and I ran into a problem that it only works in repeater mode (when you just press the reset button, they connect, but when I go to the advanced settings-wireless operation mode setting, I see that (A) Slave works in AP mode (bridge is disabled), when I turn on the WDS Bridge mode (AP is disabled), I encounter the fact that both points lose the signal between themselves (in AP mode, the points work as a repeater and I get a range of 10-15 meters) please help me, I I don’t know what to do, maybe I’m doing something wrong, I have the same channels at two points.
