Hello Jonathan and family! As a Singaporean I'm really glad that you guys managed to explore some of the more local hawker centers, to get nice and affordable food. I would advise you to not leave your utensils on the table or tray, as they are not really clean for the most part. I was shocked to see Forest sitting on the floor and you guys being so chill about it, most parents here would yell at their kids as the floor is dirty! 😆 If you come back to Singapore, I recommend you all to go to Bedok 85, a local hawker centre in Bedok, the eastern part of Singapore. Their bak chor mee (minced pork noodles tossed in a tangy sauce with mushroom, fishcake etc) is really good, and you can try some other local delicacies such as satay, BBQ chicken wings, oyster omelette. Great to order a few dishes to share with the family! Also, sorry to see that Granite got a little upset after being yelled at by the Duck Rice stall lady! A lot of hawkers tend to be more impatient, especially when there are long lines. They just want you to quickly order so that the line can move along, and are not in the mood for small talk / too many questions haha. The older hawkers might not be very good in English as well and might not have understood Granite, which made them shout at him. Hope this young man is alright, and will not be deterred to try ordering again by himself! It's great that you and Kelly are training them to be independent since a young age! You are great parents and your kids are so well-behaved and eloquent. Hope to see you guys come back to Singapore in the future! 😃

Theres over 100 hawker centres in Singapore, I doubt many Singaporeans visited more than 50 of them in their lifetime. The funny thing is that when you come to KZbin, only about 10-15 were ever featured (the same ones featured over and over because tourist never left tourist areas and just visit the ones they found on youtube). This is one of the few rare channels where the hawker centres visited are in the heartlands and is really adventurous to try different types of food.

For a lot of asian food, you should eat the protein and the carb at the same time. the protein is usually intentionally made very salty from the sauce, and you moderate that based on your personal taste with the carb that tends to be less salty.

From Wikipedia: Grass jelly, also known as leaf jelly or herb jelly, is a jelly-like dessert eaten in East and Southeast Asia. It is created by using Chinese mesona (a member of the mint family) and has a mild, slightly bitter taste. It is served chilled, with other toppings such as fruit, or in bubble tea or other drinks.

Lol, i was literally wondering that myself. From the footage shown, it just feels like the family was doing their usual filming and ignoring the guest. I understand that it's a job but if you're bringing a guest along, shouldn't that be the highlight? (Aka, well travelled American travellers showcasing Asian food to their American friend) I mean that would be a different concept that'll bring in more views, no? If the guest was uncomfortable with the filming, (i mean, first of all they should have given the guest a heads-up before filming) they should've taken the footage of her out altogether or just not post the entire outing because the end result just feels like a murder mystery, lol. I honestly don't believe that she wasn't feeling well because there wasn't anything mentioned in the filming about the guest leaving at all, in fact, aside from the 1 question asking the guest if it was her first time in a hawker centre, there was absolutely no other engagement with her in the video. I mean... why include her in the video in the first place then? However, there might be other factors involved. Maybe the guest did not enjoy hawker food (i mean, she literally did not order any food of her own) and knowing that the host is such a conversant fella as seen in other videos, i find it weird that he did not engage with the guest at all. Perhaps then it might be true to the original comment about them having a falling out. All in all, it just raises more questions than is necessary for a travel vlog but i still like to think the Bags Packed Family are a wholesome bunch so heads-up guys, just be mindful of your edits because this video makes you guys look very self absorbed about filming the vlog and ignoring the guest/friend altogether. If there really was a falling out, maybe it just might not be worth it to post the video at all? But then again, i had to scroll all the way down to find others mentioning this sentiment so clearly the majority doesn't see it as a problem. Oh well, it's only my 2 cents and it ain't worth alot, lol.

Just so you know, it is general practice that if you need any extra plates, bowls. or cutlery, the hawkers will provide if you ask. You can always buy tissues at the drinks stall. And where is your friend?

Grass Jelly is sadly not a very good translation. The "grass" is a literal translation from Chinese, in this case meaning more like "herb". The herb used in is literally translated as "Fairy Herb" or "Herb of the Immortals(mythical creature/person) " ... So the better translation for this drink would be Fairy Herb Drink or Herb of the Immortals Drink

You can try to mix soy milk with grass jelly. In singapore we call it black and white and trust me it is a totally different taste. In the 90s some will call this drink michael jackson, after the song black and white. 🤣🤣🤣
