@dantemeriere589024 күн бұрын
I'm happy that Nvidia are using their market influence, which dwarfs AMD and Intel, to push back against these developers who keep dumping these games on PC with no semblance of optimization and expect us to pay for their lack of optimization by buying exaggerated amounts of VRAM for their artificial requirements. Sure, Nvidia also stands to gain by encouraging people to buy their more expensive GPUs, especially for people who want to mess with AI and need a lot of VRAM, but as far as games are concerned, these requirements are purely artificial. Even 8GB is more than enough if a game is even marginally optimized, let alone 16GB. With Nvidia making it a point to give their most popular GPUs a generous but realistic amount of VRAM, when a new game fails to run on a new GPU, the blame will fall on the developer. Any developer asking for a 5080 to run their game that looks worse than a 2016 indie title, sales are going to be negatively affected, which hopefully pushes back enough against these artificial requirements for developers to find some shame and learn how to optimize their games properly.
@Pebb202423 күн бұрын
I kind of agree. Remember back in the day on the PS3 for example, developers only had 256MB of RAM to work with. So they had to actually put in the work to optimize their games and squeeze every last drop of power from the system. Coming out with games like The Last Of Us on that very limited hardware. These days, developers have so much RAM to work with, so they have just become lazy and release unoptimized piles of trash. instead of fully utilizing the extra hardware to push games to the next level, most develops are just taking advantage of it so they can be lazy.
@davidhines759223 күн бұрын

@@dantemeriere5890 That isn't remotely what they are doing. They are ensuring planned obsolescence. You think the 3070 was them sticking it to the developers? No, it was to ensure that anyone who bought one was practically forced to replace it less then 18 months later. You can complain about needing more then 16 of VRAM but it is NVIDIA features that cause it to need more. DLSS and Raytracing. Things INVIDA pushed are what make it go up to 16gig not the dam Devs. If they didn't offer it then it wouldn't be an issue.
@HaimSchnitzer23 күн бұрын
@@dantemeriere5890 Games are built for console, consoles have much more memory available. They also have lower resolution which mean smaller textures, so when you make a port they increase texture size, trying to fit it to 8vram is a very hard task. I strongly advise not buying the 5080 16GB. Here's what I found: first, my setup is 7800X3D, TUF 4080 Super, 32GB DDR5 6000Mhz, CL30. So in Indiana Jones the great circle. I'm getting 130 FPS at 4k DLSS performance, frame gen on, ray tracing high (not ultra). As soon as I switch to DLSS balanced, I ran out of 16GB VRAM and get 3 FPS... So even before the release of 5080, 16GB is not enough to run DLSS balanced with high ray tracing! This is completely unacceptable, imagine spending thousands and get 3 FPS on DLSS balanced with ray tracing... what a joke. Do not buy into nvidia marketing crap like neural AI rendering etc, without enough VRAM for next gen, there is nothing they can do to prevent this bottleneck.
@Angel_Zodiac24 күн бұрын
New DLSS supposedly is going to have AI texture stuff which will reduce the VRAM needed to render scenes. I mean, the difference between FE 4080 and FE 4090 direct from Nvidia was about $300 at launch. However comparing a FE 4080 direct from Nvidia and a FE 4090 in a prebuilt was typically >$600. The 4080 did also get a $200 price drop at one point. Both because of the 4080 Super and its sales were that great to begin with. So if we go purely based on this and assume apples to apples, then the RTX 5090 would be approximately $1,900. A $300 increase. Of course this year AMD isn't releasing a competing card... so prices could easily be higher. I do think $2,299 will be the upper limit though, unless the 5080 is more than the 4080 launch price. As otherwise that prebuilt is on one heck of a discount. Lol

Best case scenario, 5090 FE will be $2k. Third party prices will be higher, almost certainly. Also, for those of us in the States, let's not forget about the economy-tanking tariffs that are coming soon. Think it's bad now? You haven't seen anything yet.

The 5090 appears to be twice the card that 5080 is, so twice the price is not out of the question. I think 8800 XT might really be the best price to performance, if it costs less than 50% of what 5080 does but performs say 60% as fast. Thumbs up.
@PCgamingbenchmarktime23 күн бұрын
That's not all that appealing lol. The 8800xt needs to be less than half the price, over $499 and its DOA
@Turbotef23 күн бұрын
@@PCgamingbenchmarktime If the 8800xt is 7900xtx level with better RT for $500-600, then I'll grab one of those over the 5080 card. If not, I'll be going Nvidia this time around.

It's not a 8800xt it's a 9070xt
@PCgamingbenchmarktime23 күн бұрын
@Turbotef i highly doubt it will be xtx level. It will be closer to the XT Imo, maybe 10% away from the 4080 best case scenario. That would be decent at $499. Anything over that and it will flop hard and people will pay extra for nvidia cards. Amd always make the same mistake, they price too high at launch and people go with nvidia instead and then they drop the price once the interest is long gone. I have no trust that amd will make the smart move lol

@PCgamingbenchmarktime yea they already said it wouldn't beat xtx in raster probably will in RT tho.

No, it was the 5080 and 5090 being targeted as professional series. The 5070ti and lower are the "consumer" cards lol. Would be hilarious if the 5070ti becomes $999 in the 4080s place even though it will barely out perform the 4080 lol. 10% at best for the same price, how ridiculous would that be lol

@@PCgamingbenchmarktime Remind me of that time Intel was when AMD is busy bulldozing and piledriving... Sigh... But the truth is, many people will still buy it because AMD (and Intel) just can't compete (yet, hopefully)...
@PCgamingbenchmarktime23 күн бұрын
@mandasantoso i don't think Intel will ever be a threat, they didn't seem confident that arc will still be around for long. They're selling at a loss and things aren't going well for them so I can see them making the terrible decision to stop with arc..which would be a shame, as for Amd....who knows with them. They're never aggressive enough and price wrong at launch and people just go with amd, they're also always behind on innovations with tech/software. They need to get their shit together. In the mean time i hope people really put some thought into what they're buying with nvidia because it seems like they're just trying to rip us off as much as possible, they keep pushing up the prices and they'll continue to do so because people are stupid lol. There's only so many times they can fool people though, if they price too high I really hope people pushback

The 5090 needs to be a lot better than the 4090 to be sold at $2000+ because $2000 is already 25% more than 4090 MSRP ($1600) therefore the 5090 would need to be 60-70% than the 4090 to be a good value and also show a real performance gap between generations. GDDR7 & 512-bit bus are definitely going to play a big role here!

@JakeySurani Scalpers are selling them $2400/2500 not Nvidia. Also there are plenty online not selling at that price because it's a terrible value. Only Professionals if they really need one are buying some... the 5090 is around the corner spending $2500 for a 4090 would be stupid. And $3000 for the 5090 no way. It would make the 5090 value worse compared to 4090. It will be maybe 60-70% faster in Raster & maybe closer to 2x in RT/PT due to the new Architecture.
@JakeySurani23 күн бұрын
@x4it3n no in the UK overclockers is selling them for £2400 which is €2900 euros new. A 5090 Is gonna be 2k+. It's more expensive to make than a 4090 was. 32gb g7 , 512 bit bus 744mm2 die 4np node. This is a superior product. If its 30 or 40% faster in raster at 2k it's better price to perf than an msrp 4090. So yes they will use some marketing bs to swing it
@x4it3n22 күн бұрын
@JakeySurani UK is different, I live in the US so yeah. But imo the 5090 MSRP will not be over $2000. I'm pretty sure scalpers will try to sell them for a lot more but that's a different story.

I'm split on the VRAM for the mobile RTX 5050. A lot of folks buy these for video/photo editors that favour CUDA and NVENC. They don't need more than say 2 GB VRAM for their work. They just need the cheapest NVIDIA GPU they can get. At the same time, the same 6 GB RTX 4050 laptops are advertised for gaming with pictures of path traced Portal and DLSS3. At a price of €1450 for a WQHD model, the "just video editing" crowd is overpaying by scary amounts while the gamer gets pathetic performance. For a €360 less you get a DIY PC with 100% more GPU performance, 100% more RAM, 100% more VRAM and 100% more SSD space that doesn't stutter through Stalker 2. 😐
