Are you sure we don’t have enough workers??? That contradicts what we see every day. In the USA, 4 out of every 100 women and men looking for a job cannot find one, and around the world, the average is even higher-5 out of every 100. This represents dozens, if not hundreds, of millions of people globally, desperately searching for work without success. The issue isn’t a lack of workers-it’s the relentless push by corporations to replace people with robots in order to avoid paying salaries. There’s an interesting story about Henry Ford and the president of his company’s workers’ association. Ford once told him they planned to replace workers with machines someday. Ford said: “That day, you’ll have trouble getting union dues from my machines.” To which the union leader replied: “That may be true, but on the day you replace all workers with your machines, who will buy your cars?”

@DeadlyAlpacaaАй бұрын
We have a declining and aging population. If we don't have enough workers now, we'll have it sooner or later I think. If the robots only replace physically demanding and repetetive work that humans don't want to do anyways it'd be a win win situation.
@tracy41929 күн бұрын
I read a book on monetary policy a while back that suggested we artificially keep unemployment to a certain percentage (say 3% for a made up example because I can't remember what it was) because if there are always people out of work, people who have jobs will be less likely to leave their current job or ask for better wages and benefits. That is better for businesses if there's always a portion of people out of work so that competition for jobs keeps wages and benefits low. This mixes well with keeping health insurance tied to jobs as much as possible.

He is absolutely right about robots and focus on robotics AI in 2025 and going forward, not just as a science but also due to economic needs to improve manufacturing and struggling supply chains specially in the western world however he is equally wrong about Quantum. I believe it was comment made for his own vested interests to keep getting all investments in AI. Good that he made that statement about Quantum's future, all Quantum computation scientists will be working hard and fast now (if they were not earlier) to prove him wrong. By 2030 we will for sure see Quantum Advantage by IBM or Google or a new company backed by someone else. Commercial application is always subjective how one sees it.

I think there's definitely a need for this. I live in Japan currently, and there's a pretty big shortage of workers (skilled and unskilled). For better or worse, Japan's not really able to attract global talent, and uses low-skilled immigrants to do the work at conbinis and factories. That's something robots can literally do.
