Hi Simon, This is rather a long shot but would really appreciate your help. I have the same Volvo you have. I am getting Fuel Pressure too high errors from my VIDA (ECM-2501) and (ECM-2502). Is there a way to test or a place that sells the Fuel rail safety valve on the right hand side of the rail. I dont want to change the sensor and then it didnt need to be changed. BTW im only getting this error when the car is warm. At cold the car pulls beautifully but then goes into limp mode and dies just before mid temp. Any idea's?
@sirobb
@sirobb 5 жыл бұрын
First job is to click on the fault codes in Vida then View Information and it will tell you the circumstances which create each fault code and the possible fixes. You then just work through the possibilities. You should also be able to view live fuel pressure and fuel pressure regulator data in the ECM or CEM using the Vehicle Communication function in Vida and compare it to the correct range of readings listed in Vida. If you're still unfamiliar with everything Vida can do, now is your chance to learn as it's by a mile your best way of methodically solving the problem without paying professionals for wasted labour and bad guesses.

Simon, what happens is when Volvo and VW come to the suppliers factory, they QA the mounts. They check a batch and if they find some of them slightly out of tolerance, the whole batch is discarded. The supplier then removes the OEM name and signs and puts them back on the market under their own name. Hence the price difference. I worked for Ernst silencers for 6 months dealing with VW and Volvo.

It's the same story with Febi mounts. I bought the mount that goes to the gearbox for my 03 V70 D5 and the Volvo sign was grinded away. I have also changed the vacuum mounts. Used an aftermarket ones Original Imperium (Impergom). They were without the rear and front marks but they do the job. They were also alot cheaper than the Febi or Corteco or any other brand.

Hi Simon, awesome amount of information to say the least, one has learned a lot! ...this brings me to my issue ...we have recently bought the Volvo (2008) c70 convertible with D5 engine, and I guess there's more than one type! ...the engine mount that's at the top at the off side and bottom one are both worn, they are different to the ones you have shown, not sure if there are any of the vacuum mounts! ...I presume there is one bellow the battery housing for gearbox! ...on acceleration I get bad vibration (both drive shafts and front calliper's replaced) now looking at replacing wheel bearings, bottom wishbones, shocks with top bearings ...when the engine is started it does shake, and on braking there is some judder! ...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated My other Volvo 940 gl 2.4 at 300K is still going strong on original parts, and happily cruises at 90mph 💯💯💯

Very informative and it is as I have suspected for many years that Volvo as with other manufacturers original parts at in fact made by others.. I once had an old BMW 2000 Touring and needed a clutch, went to get original part and surprise surprise, it was made by Sachs but with an additional BMW stamp on it. At that time I was living in Sweden and I could have got the same clutch at another place in a brown box for half the price. On my diesel S70 I bought Brembo front discs for half than original price and they where absolute dear straight without wobble. Now I have a 53 Plate V70 D5 SE and looking to get rear shocks but not sure which one to get and whether it needs stronger or not as the car has a towbar.. I'm not going original.. I've gone for Sachs and Monroe in the past but not sure with the V70... any suggestions?

And what really surprised me it looked like NEW one.No axial or radial play at all, it was turning veeery smoothly like the new one. I used ContiTech kit. Maybe I shouldn't have change the pump, but since I've had very bad experience with 2 other cars in the past since then instead of every 2nd timing belt change I change the pump every time I change timing belts.

Hi Simon, I have a Volvo XC90 D5 2005. I was wondering if you could clarify that the video you did on replacing these mounts, is it the same procedure on my XC90 as I don't think the Volvo you were working on in your video isn't an XC90. Reason I am enquiring is a mechanic told me that for the rear one I need to drop the subframe, but you didn't in your video. Best regards Alan.

Yes the rear mount is a different proposition on any AWD version not just the XC90 due to additional drivetrain components. The car in the video is my S60 which is only FWD. I'm not sure that dropping the subframe is essential though but as space is tight, I can see why they might want to do that.

Hi Simon. Your videos are a great help. Unfortunately though I have a issue not covered, but hoping you can help with. Iv just bought a XC90 2.4 d5. I took it for a long drive yesterday for the first time and a message popped up with LOW COOLANT after about a 20mins into the journey. I pulled into a petrol station for water popped the bonnet and found the reservoir empty but no signs of and leaks. I very gentle started to undo the cap and the coolant came rushing back into the reservoir. The coolant light when off and it was back to between minimum and maximum level. It kept on doing this as a limped home. I had one big puff of white smoke out the back while going uphill but didn't do it again. Then the temperature got to 117c. I pulled over and turned the car off. I released to cap again and started it up and the temperature dropped to a steady 96c. It didn't over heat again and it got me home. I'm thinking head gasket. What's your thoughts please. Hope you can help as im hopping I haven't bought a nail.

I bought a Hella tank and OE Volvo cap already. So am I right in thinking the system expansion is not being held back so it's venting out the tank or cap allowing the coolant to expand and overflow thus once cooled down reducing the volume of water. With a vacuum leak, the vnt is stuck or unable to be in the correct position so the most common issue is no boost low down then a wave of boost and potentially overboost which can be very damaging to the intake pipework and potentially blow the intercooler. First job is to make sure the VNT and VNT actuator are moving correctly. There's a video in my list.

@@sirobb Yeah, I will. Just need an engine top mount video? I keep toying with replacing my V70....but....

If you mean the large rubber mount attached to the strut brace, you just detach it from the brace and engine. Access is very good and strut brace removal is in my vacuum engine mount replacement video.

I've just got a pair of petrol mounts (no vacuum) for £40 delivered. I suspect they will disintegrate on arrival lol

It's more about the make than the price. Some are quite reasonably priced but crap is crap whatever the price, lol. I hope it works out for you.

Exactly why would you want to again install Volvo mounts (or OE manufacturer) when they are well-known to fail miserably? Hutchinson invented hydro mounts. Don't install anything else. It always kills me how folks want to keep installing "factory" suspension/mount parts on their Volvos to replace the factory parts that failed in less than half the mileage of most other brands. There are better options.

Lol true. For all we know though, the genuine mounts may indeed have magical properties which disappear when the Volvo letters are ground off.
