Thank you for the nice review. the hot air gun rest pointing downward gave me pause. Pointing downward makes it harder for it to cool and more likely to fail as well as possibly melt your desk ;) If you look at 3:09, before you removed the cover, the mounting holes were oriented upward (as they also did on the other side). So, i believe that you installed the cover backwards when you re-assembled it. So many years later that it probably does not matter, but if it hasn't already failed, or you have have had to replaced it, you might want to reverse the cover and the gun rest.

24:08 That idea you had about the thin sheet metal between the tip and the ceramic element is a good idea... The tip on my cheapo 12 dollar 60-watt iron is the same style as those and it has a thin cylindrical bushing inside the sleeve of the tip to make the tip fit better. Works great!

I always appreciate you people reviewing things that actually involved an eyes on inspection. Couple of things I might add are that test the actual tip temp with an odd on for your VOM to see if it is really off fr enough to hurt anything & if it is then merely gently crimp it down to a tighter size. Also, although it helps secure those circuit board connector screws you mentioned, that coating on them is actually to prevent someone from getting a shock IF they are inside the case where they are not supposed to be & have forgotten to unplug the unit and discharge it. Again, Thanks for taking the time to do this for all of us out here!

Do you know what replacement ceramic heater it uses in the iron handle/pen ?? Mine has shattered in shipping.. I pulled the pen apart and little white pieces fell out everywhere. The coil is still good, it's just the outer ceramic cylinder that broke, the core ceramic is still intact. I had some pieces of thermal rope/door gasket material for a wood stove.. (I think it's fiberglass??); and I pulled a thread from it and wrapped it around the coil and put the tip back on.. at least this way the coil can't short to the side wall of the tip.. It took a few more seconds to heat up, but it still seems to work fine. But I would like to replace the tip, but I can't find any info on this thing.. The pen/handle has no branding on it. I just want to replace the ceramic heater, rather than buying a whole other handle. Any help would be appreciated

Nice Station and good review, thanks. So i bought it too, mine also come in without power switch on back , just the plug in cord to work. It got cut out for it, ca we install it ? which wires to cut and connect? also a Question: after plug in just on bottom display showing lines, top for solder is blank but after turning on it works. It's damaged? Why isn't showing up top display lines at start?
@Trucker19708 жыл бұрын
great review Just curious when you tested the draw in the beginning you didn't turn the master switch off on the back was wondering if that would totally stop the power draw?
@0086264 жыл бұрын
Mine must be an older version, it does not have a switch
The heating element on my Hakko 936 has a metal cylinder around it where the tip goes, that would probably take up some of the slack in the tip. I think this thing uses the same 900m style tips, not sure though.. That tip that comes with it is really loose looking for sure though. Just realized how old the video is. Does this thing still work?

If u get one pick up one of the $12 hakko soldering iron temp clone things. The iron was way out of calibration and had to jack it all the way up to melt solder. If i remember correct the blue block on the right is the soldering iron adjust. Works fine now that its claibrated

I've seen those clone irons. They're better than what comes with this? Are they 25 volt?
@frankpitochelli67865 жыл бұрын
Actually, you should turn up the temperature on the iron to 450 when soldering bigger contacts, 300 degrees isn't enough. Good review.

Gamer Russell think the only reason he doesn't is because the videos are too long. One key to having a lot of views on a review video is keep it short. I only found this video because it had the most views on it, I was not excited about the length. I don't always have 25mins to watch a review and I'm sure most don't. A lot of editing will have to go into the video to get the same points across but it will be shorter.

Very good, very informative review! However, you accidentally left almost seven minutes of blank screen + video editing snippets at the end. BTW, what do you use for video editing? I've only done a little of it, but last time I downloaded with KZbin Video Downloader, edited with Windows Movie Maker, and converted with Handbrake.

Add layer of thin copper sheet between the ceramic element and the tip
@NoMoreBsPlease8 жыл бұрын
advertiva You don't want to do that. The thermal expansion of the two materials is hard to estimate, adding a 3rd material may damage it or jam the tip on.

I bought this model and I had issues with getting the power to turn on and when it did I would have to unplug it to turn it off. I opened it up to find the power button had been burning the whole time and wasn't connecting properly anymore. The off button on the top of the power button was also burning up from the power button. I had to clean it up and solder them to get a better connections. It's not worth the money.

I bought one of these 2 months ago every thing worked fine for about 15 min, the the fan stopped working then ( it smells burned ). not getting any good help from where I bought it ( China ) anyways I checked the voltage up to fan motor it reads 42 dc volts but motor is rated 24 dc volts I think it's burned out. Question, where on the board do I look thats causing this problem ? Has anybody had this problem with this unit ?
@ForwardBias7 жыл бұрын
Hemi Power you probably plugged into into a 240V socket....
@perceive81597 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the input. but I did order it for 220-240 volts. I just shelved it . This particular unit is a chinese counterfeit , which most of there shit is. (electronics) I contacted the OEM manufacturer and there unit has a overload circuit built in and other safeguards. lesson learned, something HAS to be left out of a product when they are made and sold so cheaply , as a rule of thumb as the saying goes.

does anyone know if this gun works with the t12 style irons like ksger etc?
@FuchsHorst5 жыл бұрын
To my knowledge the heating elements of the hot air gun run on mains voltage while the heating elements of the T12 tips are running on 12-25V. So the answer is: no. However there are smaller and cheaper control units available for that type of heatgung. I got mine for 25$ at AliExpress. Professional devices like the Quick Hot Air station split the heating and the blower elements: The air stream is created from the control unit and delivered using a pipe to the heating element/handset. This seems to produce better results (faster heatup, stable temperature) and smaller hand sets, which is preferred for PCB rework/reflow.
@sbeezynukka5 жыл бұрын
Horst Fuchs thanks! The hakko style tips are fine too! I just like the pull out push in nature of the the t12 styled tips
@FuchsHorst5 жыл бұрын
@@sbeezynukka Sorry, looks like I misunderstood you. You were talking about the soldering iron part of the station? I bet this runs on 12-25V DC so it may be compatible (not with the handle, though), however KSGER, Quicko and other "T12-style" makers do have different pin mappings (4 or 5 lines, depending on the station). Also they have custom heating profiles for each tip programmed to the controller. I'm not sure if you can update the controller firmware of this station to match the T12 tips. Probably not.

Dude, the most obvious thing you should have noticed before takin it apart is the mfg F'd up on the live pwr protection input. The neutral is switched and fused not the live/ hot lead. That means it's always live, even when it's turned off. They did this to save a few bucks on putting a proper switch and fuse.
@djc54637 жыл бұрын
Don't think so. Incoming fuse is on the brown phase with the blue neutral connected straight through. IEC colour codes rather than US, since they just seem to have stuck a US plug on a European cable.
@SuperPickle157 жыл бұрын
So flipping the cables would fix it? :v
@djc54637 жыл бұрын
Shouldn't need to, as the brown 'should' be the phase - they seem to have taken reasonable care over the rest of the construction (apart from the mediocre earth connection) - but it would do no harm to check that it is connected to the correct pin on the US plug.
@SuperPickle157 жыл бұрын

Yes I watch the video. I think that you haven't work with Hi quality tools yet, but for sure this equipment is a waste of money. Look how much a Weller or Hakko cost. On 2 layers boards you don't need a lot of heat to work but multi layers you will need it. Just watch some videos of Weller and Hakko hot air stations and you will see. Any way is your choice. Once you try one of this you will immediately throw away that peace of garbage. Hey don't feel bad, we are here to help ok. Thanks.
