OMG, thank you so much for posting this and confirming what I thought. I was freaking out when I heard how loud my unit was running, I thought it was literally going to blow up. This is the exact sound that it makes and I can now rest easy knowing it's normal WHEW. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!

Do you know what replacement ceramic heater it uses in the iron handle/pen ?? Mine has shattered in shipping.. I pulled the pen apart and little white pieces fell out everywhere. The coil is still good, it's just the outer ceramic cylinder that broke, the core ceramic is still intact. I had some pieces of thermal rope/door gasket material for a wood stove.. (I think it's fiberglass??); and I pulled a thread from it and wrapped it around the coil and put the tip back on.. at least this way the coil can't short to the side wall of the tip.. It took a few more seconds to heat up, but it still seems to work fine. But I would like to replace the tip, but I can't find any info on this thing.. The pen/handle has no branding on it. I just want to replace the ceramic heater, rather than buying a whole other handle. Any help would be appreciated

Thank you for the nice review. the hot air gun rest pointing downward gave me pause. Pointing downward makes it harder for it to cool and more likely to fail as well as possibly melt your desk ;) If you look at 3:09, before you removed the cover, the mounting holes were oriented upward (as they also did on the other side). So, i believe that you installed the cover backwards when you re-assembled it. So many years later that it probably does not matter, but if it hasn't already failed, or you have have had to replaced it, you might want to reverse the cover and the gun rest.

Sometimes, when the heat mode is on, I get a pretty loud "breathing" sound on my inside unit. Have you ever got this problem? Is there a problem with my compressor?

That’s an old Sturtevant Silentvane or Multivane fan. It’s original motor would of been Western Electric or Westinghouse 15HP. There’s a lot of them installed from the 20’s to 60’s

17:22, oil bath filters are probably more efficient than paper filters. It's a simple concept, heavier particles entering with the incoming air get trapped in the oil. Simple engine oil will work.

Our defrost does’t seem to be kicking in - malfunction in the unit or is there a manual way we can initiate defrost? (Service guys on the way later but would love to know if I can initiate this cycle on my own - having to use a heater to defrost at this point).

I bought this model and I had issues with getting the power to turn on and when it did I would have to unplug it to turn it off. I opened it up to find the power button had been burning the whole time and wasn't connecting properly anymore. The off button on the top of the power button was also burning up from the power button. I had to clean it up and solder them to get a better connections. It's not worth the money.
