My best advice to a new shooter is this. Buy the gun and optic YOU can afford. Find the ammo line for the game you are after and do weight testing, for instance you buy a 308 and want a bonded bullet. Go pick up 3 boxes of federal fusion, 150 grain 165 grain and 180 grain find which groups the best and if you are not happy with in that test try a different brand of the same design projectile you are after. 90% of my bolt rifles in my gun cabinet shoot 1/2 inch or better if I do my part and that’s because of ammo trials. Expensive ammo doesn’t always equate to most accurate. I have a bergara that shoots 2 inch groups with Remington premier sirrocos (70 dollars a box) and will shoot .4 groups with 30 dollar a box federal power shoks. It’s all about what your rifle likes

I shouldve made that more clear in the video about ammo. You are 100% right! Every gun is different those barnes just gave us the best results of any bullet we tried out of the 6.5 crm. I 100% agree with comment just giving some perspective on the two rifles👍🏻

I have found that the Patriot stock can have a problem for some. The rear action screw guide has a gap. And the mag well is used as a shim. A number of people have had good results in that polymer stock. I know what I am talking about because I do like Mossberg. I have the 590A1 SPX in 12 ga (with bayonette) and I put a Magpul stock on that. Sweet, with the ghost ring sights. 2.75 in slugs at 20 yards is just plain deadly. I could use that in place of muzzleloader, I think. Mossberg MVP Thunder Ranch LR308 (in Kuiu camo) with the 20 inch medium bull barrel. Lovely to shoot because it has a composite stock and an adjustable cheek riser. Mossberg Patriot .308 that I put into the MDT LSS Gen 2 chassis with folding stock adapter and SCS stock. It got my groups to 1 MOA. And now, my Mossberg Patriot Predator Strata Camo 7 PRC cerakote. Never fired in the stock because of that problem with their stock. Put it in an Oryx chassis. .64 inches for 3 shots with the 175 gr ELD-X from Hornady. Granted, transplanting to chassis takes it out of the "budget" realm. But plenty of people have had 1 MOA or less groups with the Mossberg factory stocks. I just like chassis and do better with them. Nothing wrong with Savage. I also have the Thompson Center Compass II in .308 W. Factory polymer stock has aluminum pillar bedding. First two shots literally out of the box with not even the best ammo for it was 150 gr giving .54 inches. I put that in an Oryx chassis. I jus think that with Mossberg Patriot (and Predator) line, you are going to change to another stock. Whether a chassis or a Boyd's composite stock (with aluminum pillar bedding.

You're right. What is the rifle intended to do. If it's a hunting rifle, minute of deer is just fine. 50-60 years ago people would be completely satisfied with 2" groups for hinting, it puts meat on the table. I do have a Compass in 6.5 CM, and it IS a tack-driver. Luck of the draw I guess...

@@dougschaller2755 i remeber hearing from.old timers if you can hit a paper plate at 100 youre fine. And absolutely ive seen some axis shoot 1/2 moa groups and ive seen some patriots that cant hold a 3" group at 100 yards every company has duds or lower performing rifles but i would feel comfortable taking a deer with either rifle shown and have taken them with both with no issue.

I love backfire and will admit mossberg qc is not thr most consistent but i have a patriot in 30-06 thats sub moa and and my buddy has one in 308 thats sub moa. Luvk of the draw really i know there are better shooting axis rifles out there than what is shown as well.
