This is perfect for my truck, a '68 C10 with a cammed 5.3 and a 700r4. I was thinking of doing the same thing and limiting it to the 6oohp level at the wheel. That's over 675 at the crank and at that level the trans, rear and chassis will need an upgrade. Not Cheap. I build LS's and do swaps and I hear all the time "I want 1000". As you know it can be done but what's required to support that safely with any kind of lifespan isn't cheap.

@hardball107 2 жыл бұрын
@@fuzzymoto896 No way, I've been building for my whole life and there is no way a 700r4 will last for any meaningful time at a 700hp level. That was my point, at my trucks current level, just shy of 400hp at the tire it's OK. Add a turbo, that's all, and that trans is done. I would have to upgrade to a 4L80, do some frame strengthening and possibly upgrade brakes and rear, almost $5000 in parts alone. Anyone can take an LS to 700hp cheap and easy, having the vehicle live happy is another story and that cost has to be added to the equation.
@hardball107
@hardball107 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheDrivewayEngineer Then it breaks again and he's in for another rebuild. At the 700hp level you need a 4L80, a 700r4 unless it's built with Sonnax parts doesn't stand a chance and those tranny's are almost 6 grand a pop with a converter. I know you don't want to hear it, that's what I like about you and I agree but a 700 just isn't up to the task for any meaningful time. Better to upgrade to a tranny that will take the power in mostly stock form and is programable. Ask me how I know.

E85... you don't need a content sensor unless you plan to switch between pump gas and E85. You won't be pushing it hard enough for it to make a big enough difference to cause problems if its 70% to 100%. Its nice to have the sensor, but not mandatory... unless you splash mix it often. I've been doing the E85-E100 thing for 15 years, and even with my 13:1 iron headed 455 Pontiac it didn't care if it had 70% or 100% ethanol, it ran essentially the same, it just made more power on 100%. You probably won't see the cylinder pressures that engine does, as it has a custom ground cam that maximizes cylinder pressure between 2000 and 4000rpm. It was my first mileage mule... 20mpg with a Qjet and ludicrous power in my 70 GTO... more to come on that. You do need larger injectors, stock LS injectors (non flex) start running into duty cycle problems around 40% to 50%, with boost it will be considerably lower. 100lbs should be fine for what you're doing. A larger fuel pump is a must with forced induction

I still don't remember exactly where it came from. Right now I would have to go out and count the lumps in the snow to know how many vehicles are here, and I have an idea of whats in the trucks. Such is life in the UP where very rusty low mile trucks are dirt cheap.

According to most, a 6.0 would need a larger turbo. Will it work and make some boost? Hell yah! Depends on your power goals, typically the problem runs into back pressure on the hot side. Not being able to flow enough to make more boost. So the 7875 is more sized for a 6L than a Gt45, which works well for 4.8/5.3's.

How do you feel about running a carb on an LS? I love the LS engine, but I just can't seem to enjoy FI even tho it is amazing. Would you even slightly recommend converting to carb, or would you say to just suck it up and stick with FI.

Your going backwards with a carb…….stay with the fuel injecton that’s the main beauty behind the LS………..I don’t miss beating on my carburetor with a large crescent wrench to get the float’s unstuck or better yet being 1/2 hr late cause you flooded the engine on a cold winter morning……..no way I’m ever running a carburetor except for my lawnmower or Harley……..even my boat has a 8.1 vortec in it……carbs are bad, unless your strictly drag racing large N/A or nitrous motors

I effing HATE TURBOS ! or rather I LOVE RELIABILITTY so much i avoid them like the plague, especially homemade systems put together in a noobs garages, lol. That being said I did buy a MB with supercharger which i like alot more than turbos cuz its factory tuned and installed and USUALLY more reliable than turbos. THAT BEING SAID; the prices JR is quoting are almost too good to be true and tempting, ESPECIALLY when he said it might even fit under a gbody! that burns way too much gas anyways to ever be a daily driver? Im tempted BUT is JUNIOR misleading us cuz hes not factoring in the cost of TUNING cuz HE already owns HPTuner? Im just running factory PCm which i removed vatts and enabled electric fans for free myself.[PcmHammer SO do I ASSUME i will NEED HPTuners if i spring for a turbo system? My 5.3LS is stock other than cats being removed and a single 3" short exhaust SO it could really use a turbo to wake it up and turn my open Gbody rearend into a 1tire-frier!
