Getting the Flair Neo was a game changer for me. I've had several espresso machines in the past. And, it was the first one which I felt let me make restaurant/better-than-restaurant quality espresso. The Neo is such a great value. (I use 13-15g for shots, btw)

I love watching espresso focused videos almost as much as I like making and consuming it! Love…love…love Lance! Most coffee - espresso channels on YT fall into on of two camps. 1. I realize this stuff can be expensive, so is want you to be able to make wise decisions and find ways to do this cheaper and still better. 2. My channel affords me the money to do things you can’t, so most of my videos will flaunt the fact that you will never be able or willing to spend money on these things. Lance seems to be the YT-er who is most interested in making coffee accessible to more people. I love that.

Just an observation and an update. I used my neo today and my shot was a bit cold and anemic. Taste was fine but not stellar. Slightly sour but it made a fine americano (I've had worse) I have to do this a few times to get the hang of it before I take out the pressurized plug and try to dial in like Lance did though.

This is almost exactly how I got my start in my espresso journey. Slightly different 1zpresso grinder, but basically the same. Slowly upgraded the Neo with the monometer and bottomless basket. First off, you are a hilarious man and I love it. Second, I’ve been using the Flair Neo + bottomless portafilter with an 1Zpresso JX Pro for about three years now. The flow control portafilter was one piece back then and I’m super happy that they changed that. I think it’s an awesome set up BUT I kind of wish I would have saved a little more and bought the Flair Pro 2 instead because shot sizes are somewhat limited on the Neo. I use a French press to froth when I want some silky milky and I’m happy with the results.

@danielsoukup5734
@danielsoukup5734 Жыл бұрын
@@chornykot03 Right off, you should know that I don't spend a lot of time reaching for incremental gains. Not that I don't think they're real or would even want them for myself, I just don't have a lot of time. So, take my advice with a grain of salt. I start with about 1.3.0 (one full rotation + 8(?) clicks to #2). I use 15 grams at a 1:2 ratio (15 grams of coffee, yielding 30 grams of espresso). I shoot for 20-30 seconds, but I pay more attention to resistance/puck degradation. I don't worry too much about tamping pressure beyond getting a good, firm tamp because to goal is to squeeze the air out. Once the puck offers resistance, there isn't much gain in pressing harder. I also tap and distribute with a needle before tamping. Preheat, preheat, preheat. Enjoy the journey. Taste every shot: good, bad, and ugly. Have fun. Hope that helps.

@danielsoukup5734 ...I am precisely in the dilemma of whether to buy, the NEO or the Pro2. The price difference is notable. Although I could wait a little and save for the Pro2, I am left wondering if it is really worth it. greetings from Chile

Disclaimer: I have not used the Pro 2. If you want to pull traditional, Italian shots, the NEO or the Classic are more than enough. I feel limited by the shot size in the NEO. The NEO Flex is a different animal because you can’t upgrade to add a pressure gauge, which you could on the old NEO. If I had to buy today, I would probably go no lower than the Classic.

Yumtown residence here. I opt for the Flair Signature with the pressure dial, I use the JX Pro as my grinder because 5 months ago the X pro didn't exist and I just don't want to have the mindset of buying cheaper with an upgrade for the future as I just want to focus on the yum-yum instead of the gear. In my country the difference between the Pro 2 and the Signature isn't that much but on my end, but it's still money I could use so I opt for the less expensive model, so for the difference I got a nice timemore kettle which in my country is actually much cheaper than what is advertised in the state or even in my neighboring countries at $70 (in compare to as high as $150-$170), and at the time I didn't think I wanted to get into filter brew (LOL) so I got a knockoff kalita 155 plastic version for $3. When you first started as a beginner the learning curve is steep, even after endlessly watching so many flair videos on youtube, but after a while I got the hang of it and man the shots I been getting is comparatively better than most of the local shops as I always buy great beans. I found being able to fiddle with the pressure, whether you want 7 bar or 6 bar or 9 bar for this specific amount of time is so much fun, and with the taller basket puck prep isn't much of an issue, I only wdt as there's no other tool available in my country, and with the signature you got a nice metal tamper from Flair. But there are times where you're just too lazy to start the routine and for that I brew a nice ceremonial grade matcha for my morning milk drink. And funny enough, after a few months, pour over brew has been my focus the past 2-3 months, I honestly wouldn't change a thing. At the end of April I started with a preground coffee and a mokapot, but after that I upgraded straight to Flair signature + JX Pro and never looked back.
@chornykot03
@chornykot03 Жыл бұрын
What setting do you use on your jx pro?
@Raditram
@Raditram Жыл бұрын
@@chornykot03 Depends on the coffee and brew method! But generally the range provided by 1zpresso is a pretty good starting point. For flair signature since it has a tall basket it doesn't need it to be THAT fine. For more brittled-darker roast It's between 1.5.0 - 1.8.0 for lighter roast it can go as low as 1.3.5. For pour overs the range is typically 3.5.0 - 3.7.0 for aeropress anything above 2.0.0 is fine. Do note the first number indicate the full rotation of the dial, 1 means 1 full rotation to 0 point and then you go the designated number, so on and so forth.

My main plan was to get the Kingrinder K2, but that would require a really tedious import via Amazon, whereas I can get a Q2 for cheaper and locally, so I might just end up doing that, now that I've seen positive praises from a channel I trust.

From a singing angel to a slurping demon in the same minute :D Looking forward to seeing that Picopresso review. It seems one can buy a foldable stand to make it more stable and still mobile. Cheers

aergrind by knock is also a really nice option for a grinder, if like me you live in a country that doesn't get the heptagonal Q2 - or any Q2 for that matter, and timemore is randomly overpriced. also I have no idea how you managed to pull that shot with the red basket, every time I tried it without the flow control thingie all my coffee just went directly sideways and conpletely missed the cup (i even tried a really wide cup - still no luck!) i guess you know some coffee magic that us normal people can't access LOL really love this video, and all similar, that showcase a way to get espresso without spending $17000 on the scale alone :)

oh darn! Didn't realize the 1zpresso was difficult to get in places after they launched again on amazon. maybe buy from aliexpress? I do that often, actually. worldwide shipping. And i'm not sure! The shot has never been that messy for me!

@@LanceHedrick IMHO, buying direct from 1zpresso's website is better than Aliexpress. The prices are just as good, you're assured of not neding up with a knockoff, they will honor the warranty, and shipping is way faster and free to US.. they Fedexed my Q2 overnight. Aliexpress would have taken weeks.

I had no idea I could use the flow control portafilter without the flow control nozzle. I feel silly having never even tried it. The grinder I use is a Hobart Kitchen-aid A9 reissue burr grinder from 03 with only 17 grind settings, definitely not a proper espresso grinder so I haven't bothered exploring unpressurized options. I figured I wouldn't bother ordering a bottomless PF until I had a grinder capable of a proper espresso grind, but knowing I could just remove the nozzle, I decided I'd take a swing at it anyway. Today I did a side-by-side comparison of a pressurized shot vs depressurized, and boy was there a difference. The flavour and mouth feel of the depressurized shot was richer and more pleasant, I'm sure with a better grinder It'll be even nicer, but I'm happy with where its at now. Thanks for the info Lance! love the modularity of the flair, I've had my neo for 4 months and have loved it as it is. I intend to pick up the pressure gauge kit and tamper next.
