Yup, been buying gold Philharmonics of all sizes in my last few purchases. Aside from having the lowest premiums, they are the only ones normally available, which is great. As I mentioned in other channels, the Philharmonics are underrated (Au and Ag). The design on both sides are very detailed and intricate enough that it is difficult to copy and fake. Good insights. Peace!

Thanks! This was good advice for comparison shopping of gold down the road. I recently made my first gold purchase of a 1/10 Britannia and while I realize they've got you in a vise grip on the over spot costs, it was the most reasonably priced 1/10 I came across after looking at the 1/10 Eagles. Hey, and unrelated but kind of related---I agree with you on the Philharmonic coin content: looking at those instruments on the reverse of the coin is my cure for late night insomnia...but my wife took me to Paris for my 50th a year and a half ago and we came across a guy on the street playing a harp! Absolutely beautiful instrument to see up close and personal. Here I'm used to the guys playing the drums on the upside down Home Depot buckets outside of Wrigley Field and I get to see this! I had to drop a few euros in his case. So long story short, I guess I'd pick up the Philharmonics just to enjoy that harp!

Gold Philharmonic same diameter as a Silver Philharmonic and has a pretty cool reeded edge. But since it has such a large diameter, the coins are super thin and fragile... dented the edge of one from accidently dropping it on a glass table 2 inches high.
@2is1gold
@2is1gold 4 жыл бұрын
That’s too bad. It’s cool that the gold and silver diameter is the same, but the 1oz profile is too thin. The 1/4oz isn’t that way. Much more in line with other popular coins.

@@2is1goldYes in one of your videos you said you sold off most of your silver to buy gold and I have quite a stack of silver. I have sold off about 10% when silver was at about 28 to 29 so I actually profited. I think silver is a dud, it hasn't reached It's all time high of just shy of 50. It's like watching paint dry, silver is great to have for possible future barter and trade, I will always keep a good amount of silver in my stack, but now I'm focusing on gold. My goal by the end of the year is to purchase another 4 oz of gold, mainly fractional, and another 1 oz coin, the maple. You should do a video about how people can make sure their gold is real by using a sigma if you have one, also the best places to buy gold. May I ask where you buy your gold? I buy from Liberty coin, they are fantastic and I have verified every piece and not one counterfeit, I think they are better than the bigger houses like JM and Apmex. Keep up the good work! One more question, what are your thoughts on other pieces like the Mexican Libertad and sovereigns? Thanks much!

I had a feeling I'd find this on your channel - I acquired (3) 1/4 Eagles before they got too dear, then a 1/4 Maple, and then I saw the 1/4 Phil at a nice price, even with Gold at 1858. My 2021 goal is at least (1) 1/4 ozt Gold coin every 3-4 weeks, with intermittent Silver and numismatic purchases as opportunities arise. If I can fill a tube with 22 mm coins by 2022 I'll be a happy little camper. I'm also looking at NZ and Aussie coins for 2021, as long as they're the same size. There's something in this for the collector and the stacker in me. Win-win. I think Phil is next and thanks for the peek at it.

Wherever you go in the U.S., especially when spot prices are elevated, new buyers entering the metals market are always asking (at the LCS’s) for ASE’s, and AGE’s. The most bought, sought, and sold coins in the U.S. To stay completely liquid, so you can sell at a moments notice, then these are the two coins you must stack.
@2is1gold
@2is1gold 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The AGE is the coin I own the most of by a long stretch. ASEs are the only silver I own at the moment. I'll happily take Maples, Phils and Krugs, though, if I can't find AGEs or AGBs at the moment since they'll only occupy 5% of my stack. Thanks for the comment!

to me, a 22k coin is not relevant because we have capsules, we have flips, and we have other ways to protect pure gold coins. I would not think about paying 20, 30, $50 more because it has an eagle stamped on it. If supply gets "Jim Rickards tight", I'll get a good chuckle if someone tries to nickle and dime me suggesting a maple, krug, or phil will be less sought after in a currency crash or economic crisis. I think the Austrian coins are pretty cool looking, bought one today! Must agree with you....they are one of the cheapest coins around.

I had fun googling Krampus LOL. Philharmonics are so attractive and cheap here in Europe, I like music but the design is not so cool. Anyways I'm gonna switch from stacking ounces of Maples to ounces of Philharmonics, because they're a few 5 euros cheaper and would be easier to sell to Americans (little chance, but anyways) because they're not in the IRS blacklist you just mentioned. As for silver, Philharmonics are half of the stack, the other half are Maples for now.

I would only trade a few 1/4oz gold for a buffalo. But I really like my 1/4oz gold coins though. It's just fun to have alot of those

For years, my dealer gave me an even trade value, and premiums on the buying side weren't crazy. Basically, I could take in 3, 1/4oz AGEs and pay what I'd pay for the remainder to get a 1oz Eagle or Buffalo, my choice. Everyone was happy. This year that only made sense the first quarter. I was so used to doing it, that I didn't realize how bad of a deal that had become until recently. All my LCS options have increased their premiums significantly.

Local coin shops here will always prefer the Eagles (and give a small amount of premium), but philharmonics are about the same as Maples and Krugs here. An LCS will always take them.

Highly doubtful that they are excluded from filing requirements. Why would they be just because they weren't on a list? That is not a good way to think about it from a legalistic point of view. Focus on Positive exclusions instead of negative exclusions to be safe.

IMHO beside the philharmonics is on the boring side (even krugerrands it's not boring compared) there's one thing wrong with the philharmonics - the full ounce is too large a diameter. Krugerrands, eagles, even maples are IMHO better with their smaller diameter. Easier to store in same system as your smaller coins.

Why would you think coins need to be standardized to US eagle sizes? Seems silly. Also, eagles look cheap next to a maple, buffalo and a philharmonic. I have never and will never pay extra for a coin I consider sub-standard. To me, eagles and kruggerands should be cheaper than buffalo's, maples and philharmonics.

Philharmonics are the best looking bullion ever made. The only two downsides in the american eagle are the Lady Liberty, because only the eagle is worth looking at and the fact that it's 22k. I like Buffalos because indians are better than lady liberty, but in general I don't like people's face in coins.
