Thank you for recognising that Hendon is 'forgotten' you actually passed my street and my Mam's house, I grew up here and now 52. The change is unreal from when I wad a kid. I own my home but unfortunately will never be able to sell it at a profit or even break even because of the state of the houses around me. Great video xx

The only money getting pumped into Sunderland is the councillors pockets. Chief executive £197,500 per year plus perks,and all the other hangers-on. The people of Sunderland need to get Labour out and give another party a chance.

I was born in Henden in 1963. Moved away for good in 1982. Came back from Sweden with my kids in 2003 and did recognize the street at all. North cote Avenue. I was shocked.

Great video, I can't believe you ran all that way with your camera and also giving us a running commentary as well! I left Sunderland in 1974 after a spell in the Merchant Navy, it's good to see some of the old stomping grounds, although I can see it has changed a lot. It seems like every video I see of the north east it is always overcast and drizzling. Oh well, that's why the pubs were always full!

Bought few houses in Middlesbrough town center while ago to renovate and rent. Loved it at first then became nightmare. Very rough. Recently their one morning. Saw large middle aged man in a grubby vest chasing couple lads on bikes with scaffold pole. 😮 Stressed me out now.

Me mam was a teacher in Hendon in the 60s, it was pretty deprived even then when there was still jobs

It's an area of private residential housing. Not sure that has much to do with the Government unless we consider the availability of jobs.

we lived in Sunderland in the late 80s from 87 to 90 at the cavalier in Silksworth. I hung around and spent a lot of time in hendon cos I had friends there and I remember it being rough as he'll then. it's a shame because Sunderland and the area and coast is absolutely lovely and there's so much to see and do but people will be put off coming to visit if these places aren't improved and money spent helping the area and people who need it. I love what they've done in roker, I remember that being rough as a teen too and what they've done there is amazing, it's beautiful and we will be stopping there again in a few weeks to have a gander around on the marina and beach. not been into town yet!

Thanks for the video I enjoyed it, as an Ipswich fan I came across your videos when looking for championship content. Ironically have been thinking about moving to Sunderland as coming from here in East Anglia houses are so expensive. I must say and it’s probably a good thing that for quite a big city Sunderland seems very quiet and not the sort of hustle and bustle one might expect.

So, Sunderland is now all fur coat and no knickers? I was a student '83-6 and lived in South Hendon for a year. Solid houses, but emphasis then was on road building, not the local economy, so I'm not surprised it hasn't kicked on.

What a dump. Used to do the post round here, doors boarded up and windows smashed in on all these streets. Never felt threatened but not a place you’d want to live as it is currently. 10:03

I grew up in that area and still have family living there now. There was a ton of money spent in hendon in the 90s all around darcy Court were maisonettes, they knocked the tops off and built really nice semi detached houses with gardens, all the high rises had a lot of money spent on them and the garths got knocked down etc wasn't that long ago really. They did a great job just hasn't been looked after

rough down there pubs av gone the garths but where I was born in 1971 sad to see the place looking so run down but there is nice people as well bad but that's same in a lot of places now I live in little spa town of Harrogate so different but still prefer sunderland 1day I will be back .take care Terry .

Never again. Lived there in 2005. Within a month had a guy asking for protection money. Next few months saw every window we didn't put wire on get bricked in. Then when I left to visit home, the place got burned out. Rough is an understatement. Oh, and someone hung the neighbors cat. Lovely woman, why do anything like that, I don't know, but she ended up getting anxiety about going out and she had a dog, so when you went round for a cuppa, you were dodging dog turds on the stairs. If you are from the area. maybe take a chance on living there, but if you are from outside Hendon, but even still hail from Sunderland or the NE, take your bike if it still has wheels on and run. Love your videos, and the videos of that girl Northeast Nostalgic, but you gotta live in a place like Hendon and survive it to really know what a risk it is investing there. Buy to let, maybe. Buy to raise a family? No way, baby!

It’s not many shops in the town centre roll shut down and the bridges. It’s any shops there. The roof has been leaking for the last 25 years but at the top end of town is nice that’s where all the money is like the city all that’s all the money is gone there in the bridges it’s not many shops in the town centre Tesco’s gone from the bridges that’s empty shop. It’s not an empty shops in the town and it’s a shame

You were beside where Binns was and also it was on the other side of the street too with an underground tunnel connecting them. Fascinating to see Sunderland . Sad that the Ivy Leaf Club is closed I used to do gigs there. I now live in Prague in the Czech Republic but also own a flat at Grangetown. Regarding your comment about financing. If memory serves me right they pulled down my old school West Park and built the new Civic Centre - so why are they wasting money on another town hall? They should be encouraging new industry - some of the most skilled engineers around were in the North East I'm sure they could adapt to new products etc. Where you stopped on Monkwearmouth bridge was where I braked to avoid killing a football supporter who ran into the road and a bus slammed into the back of my new car. It was great to hear your accent. I told my Czech friends that if they visit Sunderland the local people would understand their English but the Czechs might have a problem understanding the Sunderland people. They didn't believe me but when my band from Prague visited they did. They were totally intrigued and had a wonderful time. I hope to see more views of Sunderland which, although I wasn't born there, is where a lot of my family still live.

I visited Sunderland about 5 months ago (closest bloody Barclays bank) during the day for the first time in over ten years, and FECK me I did not recognise the place. Lots of buildings boarded up, trees growing through pavements, foreigners of the darker variety everywhere, head scarfs (hijab) everywhere . Not the same place it use to be when I was a yougin gannin to the ice rink on the 230 and 5 years at University. Think most Cities and Towns are heading this way......or Sunderland just had to catch up!
