It just makes good sense to put silicone (anyways) on all of the bolts on the ceiling, & the inside of the tail lights & around the window frames...even though some of them don't leak now. They will over time with the bus bumping & twisting & such. Just plan ahead!

Keep churnin' out this excellent content, Jax. You're by far my favorite Skoolie KZbin personality and when I start my build it'll be you that I copy. Thank you for taking the time to do what you do. You're helping out a LOT of builders!

I dont see it as a main sound barrier. Anything softer than the metal will reflect sound differently and it will seem quieter. I see that as more of a condensation/vapor barrier under you sub-floor.

“Dynamat” like products, which are essentially stick on sound deadeners, aren’t meant to kill sound reflections inside, like echo or you knocking on the wheel well. They are meant to lessen sound coming thru from the outside by adding mass to the wall, floor, etc. sound travels in waves and passes through walls by vibration and the only thing that lessens sound traveling through is mass. Sound reflections (like echo) inside, can be lessened by adding materials that absorb sound waves like foam panels, carpet, curtains etc.

I also used a knock off brand in my van called "Peel & Stick" from roofing area at Lowes. Put it inside the side & back doors & over wheel wells in spots, did not cover 100% & it made a significant difference in sound deadening while driving down the road & while sleeping. I really need to do front driver & passrnger doors next. Didn't do the floor because it was already covered with factory cushioned rubber pad & did not want to take it up.

Hi Jax, it's always a good idea to rain test before finalising any building work be it a vehicle or a building. xx

Jax Austin, if your build site is pretty secure, you could rent a tent pavilion to store and protect your tools from the weather. Maybe even have enough room to do your sawing or whatever. Hope you get those leaks fixed! Not fun! Flex Shield?

Not sure how much sound deadening quality Ice and Water Shield has. What it does do very well is plug all the holes in the floor. I had over 600 holes and Monday could I have sealed them all without using Ice and Water Shield

Silicone is the worst thing to seal anything ....Water always finds its way around or under it !! Liquid Butal or butal tape works great ... By the way Butal is spelled wrong hehehehe .... Love the bus !!!

Tapping right on the material isn't a good comparison and that's what caused the very slight difference in sound. A good test would be to apply it to a section on the wall. Then have someone on the outside tap on the section with the material and a similar section without and record it from the inside.

No ice shield in Canada? I use stuff called Snow & Ice Shield in construction and there are other name brands as well. IKO makes fantastic products for that. If ya do get a kink in it you can sometimes get 'em out with a heat gun or torch and sometimes, if it's not too bad, layin' out in the sun will flatten it out. Most school boards turn those things over so they don't have to deal with issues like leaks. School buses usually have a fairly strong powertrain, a stout chassis and a rattle trap bus body. It's just the nature of the beasts. Good to see Mike can run a hose, attaboy! Heh, heh. .............................PEACE!!

Blueskin is NOT a sound deadening product. it is a moisture and air barrier for walls (primarily). It is used to put on the outside of a wall before you put on stucco, brick...etc (your finish). the only thing it would help with on the floor would be sealing any left over holes and to make sure that no water or air can get in from the floor(thats what i did on my bus). but since you don't have your floor completely covered, its useless. I know all of this because i work with Blueskin a lot...i work in construction.

Chuck Co, I thought that's what that product he had there was. I've seen it but have never laid hands on it...no sound deadening huh? That's too bad.

Has anyone ever tried to spray bed liner into the wheel wells for sound deadening? Under the bus, not inside.

I'm not sure if you've had the idea about this in other vids or brought it up at all, but a contest/give away type of thing for a sub to name the bus would be pretty neat.

Blue skin is an excellent product for waterproofing. Not sure about its sound dampening properties as that's not what it is designed for. I've used it for around windows and doors in residential construction before installing new windows and doors.

I used a similar product on the floor. Sure is sticky. If I could start over, all the bus windows would come out. It seems impossible to fix all of the leaks.

DId you get any bad smells using this product inside? I love finding cheaper ways to accomplish a goal. I would be curious what chems they use to create this product since they assume it will be used outdoors

the centerhole of the rivit is probably leaking , boat / closed end rivits might've worked better , they are watertight (and stainless) www.ecvv.com/product/4456679.html the skylights are nice but they might become a pain in the long run with them springing leaks that has to be repaired constantly ........ theres room under the skylights so you could make some sort of raingutter and stick that under the seams of the skylights and rivits so all the water that manages to leak though get syphoned of through a hose in the wall and out through the bottom of the bus if you have offcuts of the soundproofing stuff you put on the floor stick it to the ceiling where the bedroom is going to be , it might dampen some of the rain on a tin roof sound and whont cost you extra / be in the way of the finish
