I've just spent two weeks in Nessebar. It's one of the best holidays I've ever had. It is such a beautiful place, it's easy to relax there and the people are just so wonderful. I highly recommend it and hope you and Raya have a lovely time xxx
@MrT3ri8 жыл бұрын
Hi Louis, I am from Bulgaria. However, now I live in the UK. This summer I spend it in Bulgaria and I know how cheap it looks like for the brits and it is not a new thing. When you went for the food you spend like 12 pounds but this is around 10% from the minimum monthly salary in Bulgaria. For me, this is sad because not all Bulgarians can enjoy holidays like this and also the other people don't understand it and thinks that it is awesome to be so cheap.
@fatma49428 жыл бұрын
True that. But the economy also lavishes from an increase in tourism.. So it's actually a win win situation
@BartTibia8 жыл бұрын
It's not a win win situation. It's only a win for Bulgarians who benefit from tourism: hotel/room owners and tourist guides/restaurants etc. Basic concept of supply and demand. The demand for Bulgarian goods increases because more people (tourists) come to Bulgaria. So prices in Bulgaria are rising. But the incomes of people who for example work in factories and warehouses are not rising. They are not involved in the Bulgarian tourist industry. So the prices are rising for basic things like food and rent ... but wages are not rising. Tourism is not universally a good thing.
@xx4stingxx8 жыл бұрын
Directly I suppose, but indirectly the whole population of Bulgaria should benefit; how much would depend on government spending. Tourism being a big export for Bulgaria will help the economy which will give individuals a better chance to emerge from poverty. The government could also reinvest the wealth into the general infrastructure of the country.
@BartTibia8 жыл бұрын
Xavier First of all, there is a very large discrepancy lag between government spending and the effect on the general population average incomes and standards of living. The only thing that is immediate (relatively) is unemployment, but government spending has a lag of 3 to 6 years on average wages. That's why it took so long to get out of Great Depression, and that's why governments in Southern Europe are struggling to raise wages. Secondly, this assumes that the tourist industry is beneficial in terms of tax gain. The only reason that Bulgaria is popular is because of it's prices: that's their competitive advantage over other tourist countries. If Bulgaria was to raise taxes on the tourist industry, the amount of tourists would decrease.
@xx4stingxx8 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree however I still feel that tourism benefits the general population even if it is in the long-run.

Are the prices better because Raya speaks the language? I know when my family was in Greece, I would ask the price in English, then my dad would go buy 5 minutes later and ask price and it was much, much cheaper because he was Greek and spoke the language. I would be happy to hear the price is the same for everyone, because I would start planning a trip to Bulgaria.
@amadeoludovico83288 жыл бұрын
At some of the larger markets the prices might get pushed up a little at some of the stalls, but the smaller markets or individual stalls will vary rarely change the price just because you're a foreigner.
@andresreyes53988 жыл бұрын
That could play into because that tends to happen when traveling but Bulgaria in general is dirt cheap compared to the EU their income levels are rather low.

For a hostel it's on the expensive side - you can get a hostel in PARIS for about 20 euros. Plus, it was just a shock after traveling in the rest of the Balkans (Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia, Albania etc) where that would be our 2 day budget!

Welcome to Bulgaria Louis! Здрасти на Рая! ;) I felt like sharing something about our traditional kitchen based on what you're eating here, that you might actually already know. It basically consists of a lot of meat and tomatoe salads and you guys as vegans or vegeratians (not sure) won't stumble across anything that impressive, except perhaps a nice vegetable hotchpotch, which is pretty good, especially homemade. ;) Now that you're at the sea, dont be tempted to have some fish, that is the last thing you want to do. At our restaraunts, there's no fresh caught one, mostly imported, so I don't recommend eating it, it's bad. Greetings to Raya's family and their homemade food with fresh products from the garden, I know what I'm talking about here. ;) Anyways lol, I guess food is a sensitive subject to me. Have the best time you can have guys! ^^
