In today's video we continue our series on how to live rent-free or for very cheap. The first way to do that is by dispersed camping for free on National Forest or BLM land. It's hard to believe, but true, that you can drive down the road on nearly all Public Land and choose a site and camp for free. Try it, I think you'll like it!!!

Thanks Bob !!! For the comfort and confidence you have given me. Tonight will be my very first time camping alone in an area I haven't rented and also without electricity but I have a gas stove for heat and for cooking and a bunch of candles for light. Thank you for giving me this dream which is now becoming my reality.!!!

One NF I was in, in Arkansas cost me a whopping 3 dollars for designated camping in the middle of a beautiful forest with a stream. The biggest "threat" I encountered were possums. :) Cheers!

$3 a day?
@IMSiegfried
@IMSiegfried 7 жыл бұрын
Yup, at that time. So it's probably double that now as it was too long ago. You put the cash in a locked wood box at the campground entrance. I never saw a ranger during the time I was there. There was another family camping there that looked like they lived there. :) cheers!

Lisa if you have Medicare, you can get a free limetime National Parks pass that gives you 50% off the already low camping prices at national parks!

National parks or forests? Regardless this is news to me too. I know there's a discount (half off I believe) for seniors but seniors receive Medicare with Social Security so I am confused. Please do tell more. Thanks!

Angela Siegfried Depending on who you ask I'm a senior... I'm an AARP member but I'm not yet 55. I am however on disability, and thus have Medicare already, and that was enough to get me the lifetime national parks pass. Another pass option if you're going to be doing enough national park camping is to get the yearly pass which I think is $80 dollars for a year and also gives you half price camping too.

Inspiring and educational as always, Bob. Thank you. IMO, BLM land is paid for and managed with our taxes, however much or little we pay. So it's "free" to camp there in the sense that we are using what's already ours.

I cant wait to try this. I am coming home next month from my deployment with my Guard Unit and my friends and I have been wanting to find some good trails and spots (we run a volunteer search and rescue team in our area) other than campground areas. I have never been fond of campgrounds because you are right next to bathrooms and people and everything is always so crowded. I have been trying for so long to find just open area in the forest to setup and camp for our missions and finally I figured out it is called disperse camping. Loved the video man!
