Today we meet Paula who is exploring the possibility of being a full-time nomad by taking trips in her Jeep Cherokee. You would think spending extended time in a vehicle that small would be unpleasant and turn her off the idea, but just the opposite has happened. She appears surer than ever that she is ready to make the plunge and live the truly good, free life on wheels! I believe that Paula is an inspiration to us all that indeed you really can do this!

Good on ya Paula! Thanks for vid. I have Jeep GC Trailhawk. I immediately put 2nd row seats down and have tarp down and 4" memory foam mattress covered by 2 blk soft warm flannel bags. I have dark back windows . I have slept in it few times comfortably. I have that key fob warm up start... where i get in snuggle into bed crack a window for air and lock doors and Insta start from my bunk the engine and heater runs for 15 mins and auto shuts itself off! I am 5'5" tall. I have lots of storage on right side and all and also under around full spare. Refer idea is great. Top carrier and possibly hitch stoage like hers... i hope to travel thru Canada and into Alaska this fall and winter over in a sweet cabin spot and experience full winter and Auroras! Wish me luck... ill keep ya posted. Thanks for all the great vids Bob!

How do you get the doors to lock on demand? Mine won't in my 2019 Cherokee Or, maybe, it's just the door handle button wont beep if the fob is inside ... bc I tried t0 keep one fob in thr console (not in use) and the other im my pocket or purse but that handle button wont beep with it inside . A little frustrating because you want it to, but actually a very good feature that allows you to never lock your keys inside your vehicle!!;)

I have a Jeep Wrangler and go camping in it with many of the same items. Paula has done a great job. One difference for me is that I sleep on the passenger side due to my height, (almost 6'3"). This allows the drivers seat to always be in the ready state, in case of an emergency situation. When you do the costing of such travel it is amazing what your able to achieve and that is still with using the odd night in a hotel (a treat). Nice vid.

What a great video and Paula is right Bob, when she says you are the superstar of this kind of information. I have learned so much from all of your videos and am in the process of setting up my own car which is much smaller than the Jeep in this video. Thank you for all of your information and for continuing to show us people who have car and suv setups, and not just RV's and vans. Thank you!

Paula I love your set up...Way to go! It is so much fun to travel and camp who would have thought it at ages... Our kids think we are crazy, but just wait they will see different at our ages or maybe not. We had to give it a try then we found out we love it... hmm imagine that... our grown kids go camping and love it on every occasion that comes up through out the year... So we go when we want too... Life is fun when you live it on your terms... Happy Trails!

I lived in and out of a Mitsubishi Outlander SUV last december and while I loved it and it is totally doable you really want to have warm weather to avoid condensation. It was sunny at daytime but at night temps went down to 42°F. Each morning I had to towel down all windows, especially the windshield was covered with water, even though I had two windows cracked open half an inch all night. Also for a long term setup I'd get rid of the rear seats as they limit the height between your sleeping/living area and the roof and getting in and out of the rear passenger doors is annoying with the high platform due to the the seats folded down. If you can't open and close the tailgate from the inside, modify it it to do so because that is the easiest way to get in and out. Last thing, be careful what you store unsecured in the rear as everything will become a deadly projectile in case of a crash.

I found a solution to this. It's sort of the same concept of a mosquito net but instead of keeping bugs out it will keep moisture in. Just hang a sheet a foot or 2 above your head and have it hang down to enclose you. You can do this buy clipping it to stuff already in your vehicle or build something to hold it. It will keep the moisture in plus heat, very nice when it gets below freezing.

I watch all these videos and love especially the ones showcasing senior women...such as myself. It gives me hope that I can change my daily cubicle soulless grind and live much cheaper in my vehicle out in nature. I loved THIS video especially because it really shows how to start inexpensively and with less gear. I was disappointed that the info for her items are Not listed below. For example, the stove listed is propane, but hers is butane. There is no link for the snap on toilet seat, not how to find one. There is no link to the inflatable camping mattress - which, having researched them- come in various prices and quality. I hope Bob considers that listing non Amazon referal products would also help his subscribers.

@@PaulaPittsPensacola Not to disagree but it would be hard for a person with medical needs to do that. This lady says that the "female urinal" she uses is just right for her. However (pardon the topic) with some women the urine splashes every winch way rather than flowing down in a stream neatly into the "funnel." Also some people (men and women) have to urinate frequently. Not having the right toilet facilities can mean getting rashes and/or skin irritations and of course getting your bed and clothes progressively wet. You can say that all you need do is wipe or clean yourself properly but when you constantly urinate it is actually hard to keep the area from getting irritated and constant wiping or cleaning will eventually not help much. You would need to constantly change underwear maybe diapers for the best result. If you are prone to allergies and need to take medications with you, you have to do what you can to set aside some space for medical items and medicines. If you need to regularly rinse your nostrils with a Netti pot you will need to have a good amount of saline solution. Never mind if you have diabetes or some other medical condition that you have to always have medications with you for.

I love my Jeep Cherokee. My son and I spend most every summer traveling with three large dogs. I have added a roof rack to mine and we can take all we need. There is so much room inside that when folding down the front passengers seat and pushing the drivers seat forward you can fit a full size air mattress. Very cozy and warm.

If I'm correct, you can dilute the urine with 10 parts water to urine then dump it on the ground next a plant and fertilize it. In the Middle Ages, urine was collected from the potty pots of the town residents and used to fertilize community crops.

I have a Tahoe and have the seats that fold flat in the back. I have a twin size memory foam tri-fold mattress that fits on one side with the wider seat down. I can fold and flip the smaller seat forward and can fit a small portapotty where the seat was. I don’t live in it but use it for car camping so far but my plan is to eventually sell my house and travel sleeping in that for a while. Looking at a camper van eventually but for now this works.

By far this is the best series of videos on so many different aspects of camping for entry-level part-time and full-time Nomads. You’re shooting and editing has improved and you ask all the right questions and I think you do a good job of setting your guests at ease. I know it’s a delicate situation, after all your entering peoples private camp spaces and asking them to show you how they have it set up. I’m sure there must end up being out takes a plenty. This video is especially interesting because I’ve been planning for six months on buying a Subaru outback for long road trip camping and telling a small cargo trailer. Though the gas mileage for the Subaru is much better than a jeep Cherokee, I am thinking about the added headroom once you’re inside the vehicle and larger roof rack and better towing capacity. Curious if you’ve done a video on fuel economy. I’ve learned over many decades that if you keep it around 60 mph on the highway you get the best gas mileage. I see people complaining about gas prices and fuel consumption of their car and yet they are driving along 85 miles an hour. Just because the speed limit says that you don’t have to go that fast. That really burns fuel

Paula, you are awesome and brave in this endeavor, i love it! on that "pipi" gadget :D ...it's possible some women are using it the wrong way and that's why it doesn't work for some, LOL. Fantastic organizing skills. Bob, i do enjoy your videos and interviews with others, it's inspiring. Safe travels to both of you beautiful beings. Always in appreciation for your time and efforts.

Really like how she has it all setup. The hitch carrier is a good idea so the inside of the SUV is clear of space.

She has everything so organized, I admire that. She is also from FL, where I am from which is a long trip. I am in AZ now just fresh from the RTR where I met you for a brief moment.

And there is even more space on a Jeep if one gets one of those over the top aerodynamic bags specially made for cars. They're top travel suitcases almost, but aerodynamic shaped.

We will be starting out in our Forester. We have been using for a year and a half part time. But have been getting a lot of great ideas for what works for us.
