This is my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee "camper van" build. It's a super simple, relatively cheap, no frills build. The goal is to allow me to live in the Jeep in National Forests or BLM land and travel the country full-time.

5:57 My favourite dialogue of this whole video: "I went super simple this time, not doing a crazy Van build like last time wasting a ton of money." A man learns from experience.

We lived in a Jeep for 2 months after the 7.7 earthquake in Gaziantep in Turkey. Since we are campers, we did not have much difficulty. Now sometimes we go without a tent and camp in a Jeep. We are fallowing you. Greetings from Turkey. 🤗

I have the Jackery 500, the owners manual recommends that you keep your jackery in the shade if you can, cover it with something while charging, the lithium battery is sensitive to heat and cold! FYI
@bizurkur
@bizurkur 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I always kept mine covered when it was in the Jeep and kept it in the shade while charging. I didn't read any manual, though. I kept it covered because it's an expensive electronic device and the sun damages everything.

Great idea to sleep with your head in the back of the car and let your feet dangle off. I am also tall I was wondering how to get around this obstacle but that's a great idea I don't know why I didn't think of that. Thank you!

really helpful, looks nice and clean n simple. prolly would help a lotta ppl just to have a storage cargo container for the top of the car to keep the inside more spacious.

Yeah, after about a month I caved and bought a cargo box for the roof. I got sick of having my tent, camp chair, and other stuff in my main area.

I mean, it's the same way a tent works. The zippers are accessible from inside or outside. Even if they weren't on the outside it's only thin fabric. If someone wanted to get through it they'd just cut it.

The electrical outlet off the built-in inverter is only good for like 1.5 amps (150w max). It won't be good for charing your laptop or anything like that. It would handle one of those little air pumps you use to inflate air mattresses, and that's about it. You'd be better of getting a car charger for your laptop so you aren't converting from 12v to 120v and back to 19v (typical laptop voltage).
@bizurkur
@bizurkur 2 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree, seeing as I used the built-in outlet several times to charge my laptop. 150w is more than enough for that.
@brianvandy4002
@brianvandy4002 2 жыл бұрын
@@bizurkur It's still worth finding a 12v cable for your laptop. EAch time you convert from 12vdc to 120vac and back you can be losing 20% of your amperage. So that's as much as 36% of your energy lost. You can save at least 20% by just going straight from 12vdc to 19vdc (or whatever your laptop takes). Not a big deal if you're on a long drive, but if you are using battery while stopped it could keep your battery alive longer or allow you to do other things with it. My charger takes 180 watts and I've seen others up to 230watts, so others should make sure you check this before just plugging in there or you may start blowing fuses.

The entire point is to not disassemble the Jeep. I can easily go from camper to every day vehicle by pulling out the bed.

11:00 How did you get your front passenger seat to flip forward? I wonder if my 18' Overland will do that... It has the electronic adjustments. I had a 15' Limited and had no knowledge of that function either.

Curious, but why not just use those window screen socks that you pull over the window frame and it lets the airflow and keeps the bugs out
@bizurkur
@bizurkur 3 жыл бұрын
For the same reason I don't go camping in a giant sock - what do you do when it rains? Would you rather be in a tent or a big sock? The "socks" lack: - Full protection barrier. I'd be willing to bet the bottom isn't going to seal tightly against the car door and bugs will get in. All they do is have a friction hold. - A zipper. You can easily open/close the screen on the ones I bought without removing anything. - Rain protection. If it starts to rain, the ones I bought have a canopy that gives a small amount of protection from a light rain. If it rains harder, you can simply zip up part or all of the screen and it's completely weather proof, just like a tent. But because it has a canopy, you shouldn't need to zip them up all the way and could still get air flow. The "socks" are cheaper, but with all things in life, you get what you pay for.

What's the point of the side door "tent"? Just to allow you to vent? Wouldn't the window screens that slide over the top of the door and rain guards do the same thing?
@bizurkur
@bizurkur 2 жыл бұрын
The difference is one acts more like a tent and one acts like a normal window screen. If it rains, I want a tent to keep the rain out (but still allow air in) and not an open window. I do actually have both. The kind that slide over the door I would only use on nice days.

Is the door tent noisey if the wind blows?
@bizurkur
@bizurkur 2 жыл бұрын
I never had any issues with it, but I only ended up using them occasionally. I only camped in the Jeep for the summer deep in the woods and in the far North so it stayed fairly cool out. Now I only do small trips, but 1.5 years later and I have no regrets about having the "tents" for the doors. They are especially handy on the hotter days.

Nice. How do you get in and out of bed? Can you open the back hatch door from inside?
@bizurkur
@bizurkur 3 жыл бұрын
The passenger back seat is open without any obstructions. You can easily climb onto the bed from that seat. The tailgate is automatic. There's a button in the rear of the Jeep to open it as well as a button on the key fob, so yes, you can open it from the inside.

How do u cook?
@bizurkur
@bizurkur 3 жыл бұрын
With a backpacking stove. I ended up adding a small table on the end of the bed that folds down when not in use. The tailgate acts as a cover if it's raining and I set up the stove on that little table. When it's super windy out I've had to cook inside the Jeep, setting the stove up on top of the passenger seat (folded down). However, I don't like cooking inside the Jeep due to the extra moisture it puts in the air.
