Nice review Randy, love the Tissot Seastar 1000. Mine is about 15 years old and it has always been one of my favorite watches even when I had over 100 watches.

I admit to not giving Tissot much attention in the past. However, adding the 35mm PRX to my collection has forced me to re-evaluate my position. The Seastar is another compelling offer from this brand.

I bought a Seastar 2000 from a local AD for $1100CAD / $815USD almost two years ago. The value of the 2000 is incredible as it would be a worthy competitor to the Planet Ocean 600M. The TSS2000 matches the OPO600M in most specifications despite being only 1/5th the price. The TSS2000 out-specs the Hamilton Khaki Navy, the Longines HydroConquest, the Longines Legend Diver, the Tudor Black Bay, the Oris Aquis, the Glashutte Original SeaQ, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer, the Rado Captain Cook, the Breitling Superocean, the Omega Seamaster and yes, even the mighty Rolex Submariner. The Mido Ocean Star 600 is about on par with the TSS2000 but costs a whopping 60% more money while the others cost even more than that. If you want a watch that can match the features of watches that are WAY above its tier, there is no watch like the TSS2000.

The thing about black coated watches is the pattern that they get over time when the coating wears off. I have a few and they just age pretty well.

I love my SS SeaStar. I am on my second, my first I didn't take off for 10 years until I sent it in to get cleaned. Bought I new one (the grey) to keep my wrist company in the mean time. I think, I am going to need a third now. These are such good watches for the money. Plus the open back is beautiful...

I'm not a fan of the high polish hands or the T second hand but do love the look/feel of a PVD diver tool watch. I've got a somewhat similar looking chronograph by Fortis (Monolith) and it gets more wrist time than my Omega PO. The PVD on that watch resembles the blued steel of a 1911.

Bought my first Tissot about 19 months ago, the PRS 516 Chronograph. I'm a big F1 fan and wanted a racing chronograph and this one checked nearly all the boxes. Like you I'm more into the mechanical, but a Swiss chronograph starts at around $1200 and I got this quartz for less than $500. I've been super impressed with the build quality and attention to detail, although my second hand seems to come to rest just a hair before the 12, but not enough that anyone else would probably notice. Overall it's been my daily since I bought it, though I do still really enjoy wearing my Orient Neptune. BTW-I knows it's discontinued, but if you can get your hands on an Orient Neptune/Titan, I highly recommend it. Personally I feel it's the highest quality diver Orient made outside of the Star lineup, and the only one with a power meter. For now, it's my crown jewel. Enjoy the channel. Glad you're back!

I own the Sinnn U-1 T-SDR special edition with PVD coated bezel. my watch is anti-magnetic, 1000M, subamrine steel, good lume, saphire crystal and tegimented watch case and bracelet. Sinn does make tool watches that stand out in very unique ways. But I have to give it to Tissot, the Seastar is very similar to the Sinn U1

I have been considering getting one of these Tissot watches. Thanks for your review and opinion on this watch, much appreciated. BTW, I would love to hear your take on the Timex Navi XL and their amazing, to me, dial markings and brilliant hand configuration with the 24 hour marking highlighted through the open 'Mercedes' hour hand.

I just got this watch. It’s awesome. I’m wondering why my roter looks different though. Mine looks like the Powermatic 80 pictured on the Tissot website. It has 2 cut outs and says “Tissot 1853”. Yours in this video and other pictures I see online the rotor is decorated with rays or waves and has no cut outs and says “Tissot 1853”. Any idea about why they are different? Is one Silicium or something? Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Let's talk about the elephant in the room... The Tissot Powermatic movement. It's well made, built to close tolerances using the most modern production techniques. And it can't be repaired. If you take a broken Powermatic to your watchmaker, or even if you have one for a few years and it stops running, they won't work on it. They CAN'T work on it because stuff like the balance spring and pallet assembly is 'sealed' into place. That makes it a very stable placement, but there is nothing to do but replace the whole movement if it goes wrong. That's fine for most people, but it doesn't speak to the kind of quality and workmanship and overall design than the Tudor and Omega watches you're comparing it to. Still, it's a good looking watch, even with a somewhat "disposable" movement.
@ImTheDudeMan471 Жыл бұрын
Can the Powermatic 80 be directly swapped out for an ETA 2824? If it can, then I'd wear it until it needed service, mod. it and put in the 2824. How sim. are the 2 movements?
@a0r0a7 Жыл бұрын
Don't take a look inside some of their quartz powered watches, overpriced watches with dreadful cheap plastic movements.
@PlasticImaginationWorkshop Жыл бұрын
I hadn't seen this version yet, looks nice. I will have to check this one out, I've had several Tissot's and still own a couple. I really like them and mine are very accurate. I do have some reservations about the movement since if there is ever an issue you basically have to replace it but, I hear a lot of good things about them. Thanks for sharing Randy, have a great day. -David

I just bought the dark blue 2000 on a flash sale on Amazon for $550. I actually will dive with the watch though certainly nowhere near its capabilities. My friend has an Omega Seamaster ($5k?) and we vacation quite a bit in Mexico, many times driving down Baja to fish and dive. Im a bigger guy with 8" wrists my friend is bigger than me. I've never had any real problems down there but losing a $500 watch as opposed to a $5k watch to some "road tax" seems like something I wouldn't lose a lot of sleep over (as long as my dumbass buddy was the one to lose his Omega as well). my real question is - I was wondering if a watchmaker can get rid of that "T" second hand and replace it with something less obnoxious?
