What would you do in this situation to help to mitigate the issue?

I would keep my mouth shut and use the free information! It's a home game, not a casino, you just can't be sure if she is telling the truth, she probably said A3 on purpose when she did have AQ. In a casino I would definitely say something to the dealer almost immediately though.

This reminds me of the situation I faced in casinos a couple of times. Probably most players have. The player next to me was either very inexperienced or drunk or both. He would pick his cards up completely off the table to a degree where I could not avoid seeing them. When players do this, I let them know that I can see their cards and suggest that they protect them better. But some players simply don’t or they do a better job for a few hands and then revert to their usual pattern. Of course when that happens, I have information that I’m not supposed to have and that the rest of the table doesn’t have.I’ve never been completely certain how to deal with that.
@alexh8613

It's easy, you tell him to stop doing that, and protect his hand. But you also don't blurt out his hand to the rest of the table.

You don't go to the person running the game. You casually say it in front of the entire table. Something like, "hey guys, you can't talk about your hand when the game is still going on." I agree with this take 100%. Your first reaction should be to assume mistake before malice. Especially if it seems like the guy is teaching her how to play. She likely does not know table etiquite or even the rules. When I first started playing, even in casinos, there were times when I would talk my hand to the person next to me, or with a friend and think nothing of it, until I was called out and explained the rules/etiquite. (Also, I was playing super low stakes, so nobody really cared....but still, I didn't know until I knew).

Because it's a home-game, I think a little restraint was justified. Maybe you let it play out and *between* hands ask the table whether the girlfriend announcing her hand bothers them. That's a more subtle way to apply pressure, without being confrontational.

Thinking about how the caller misheard "A3" makes me think this could be the set up for a short con. The narrative of a good con often involves "accidents" that makes the mark think they have an edge when in reality they do not. For instance, what if the couple waits for a big pot, let's someone "accidentally" overhear their hand on a big pot. You think you have them beat because the board misses A3. You go all in only to find out they could make a set of 6s. You can't call them out on it, because they would have to admit you were trying to cheat them. You also have to blame yourself because you "misheard" A6 as A3. You don't even know they were conning you. This specific hand may not be the best example, but the key thing about a con is that the victim has to think that they are the one cheating somebody else. And the con artists could create the perfect situation for someone to try to cheat them - the incentive of a big pot, the opportunity of "knowing" their cards, and the rationalization that they probably deserve it because of the way they have been table talking the whole night. I'm not saying I think that's what's going on here. In all probability, they are just jerks with bad manners. But it does seems odd that they would say A3 when they had A6.

I run into a few cheaters in Texas . One was a famous lawyer who got cheating at madhouse poker club in Austin .another was a Vietnamese dealer named Con . I had a husband and wife working together I called them out I was uninvited from then. I was at the black Phillipino ghey game in harker heights I had a guy steal some of my green chips he pretending to be drunk and fell on my chip stack . Another Texas poker ripoff is the rake . Sometimes they rake every street so 10 pre flop 10 on the flop 10 on the turn 10 on the River plus take a green chip 25 and make change give back only 10 or 15 in red to the pot . There is one thing in Texas I wish the poker world would adopt its the concept of poker insurance . If you would like to discuss poker insurance I need 20 min.

@@lazyman114 poker insurance is insuring you win the pot no matter the cards coming or bad beat that we feel is coming . So I'm at the farmhouse sat night 2-5 no cap . Me and Cambodian dragon get all the money in on the turn I flop a set 4s he has AA he only has 2 outs . Before the river is delt the house ask if I want insurance at 4 % per out so for 8% of the pot I win even if A comes out . Being a decent poker player u should never take the insurance but this is Texas and a crazy Asian action poker game orientals vs farmers vs a cop vs a pimp from Killeen and some military I take the insurance gonna cost me about 160 to win 1000, 2000in the pot . Sure as bread and honey will make you chit.. A on the River . The house has to pay me for my loss 😊 and the action player dragon wins and the game gos into degenerate condition level 2 when millionaire Dave shows up and pays for someone to leave there seat .I miss Texas poker but I think I've giving up playing for awhile

The problem with home games is that soft play and collusion are usually the norm. Maybe the weed caused the caller to have heightened sense and he was able to hear what no one else heard. And of course the atmosphere of a home game during the pandemic is going to be made up of degens that don’t care about a little soft play. I mean maybe the game breaks if you have 8 barts there but w random NC degens I would bet nothing short of the place being on fire would stop that game.

Maybe the moral here is "don't smoke weed and go play poker" haha.

I don't get how this one made the cut. I would say something right away. If they didn't I would cash out and leave.
