@@gabrielcodina6188 the most suspicious part was the M5 sequence. No 1500 would have found that exact sequence in such a short amount of time. Just about any clean 1500 would have just taken the free knight, instead of seeing 5 moves in advance.

@johny.echevers this is not the GM level masterful M5 you guys think this is. It's a series of random checks and premoves to win on time. And he just happened to get lucky. Just because a 1500 makes a brilliant move doesn't mean it was intentional. Sometimes, they were going for a more basic tactic. The number of times I've stumbled onto good positions that I didn't plan or prepare for is very high.

I'm an 1800 and couldn't find that sequence without it being laid out in front of me. Sure, anyone can stumble onto a "brilliant move," but a full 5-move sequence, instantly? In a bullet game? Being up on time against HIKARU? Dude was definitely cheating. In any case, this was analyzed by the chesscom fair-play team (who know far more than you and I about cheating-detection), and they determined that that dude was definitely cheating (his account was banned).

I'm 99% sure white cheated in this game... Here's my case (for both sides of the argument): CHEATED: #1) Following move 6 (bishop blunder), white's playing pace abruptly turned mechanical, unnatural, and inhuman in terms of response time and execution. For over 20 consecutive moves, white played consistently at around ~0.7 seconds per move throughout a middle-game that was by NO MEANS simple for any player to convert, let alone a 1500 down a full bishop against a top player. Yet somehow this player made it look ridiculously easy... #2) If you review the 7 games immediately prior to Hikaru (all losses), the account user was CLEARLY resigning equal games in the opening without good reason. I can only assume the individual was "fishing" or trying to attain this matchup by intentionally throwing games to adjust their rating accordingly. Therefore, didn't even need to prove "cheating" lol, they could have just as easily banned the account for "throwing games". DID NOT CHEAT: #1) The account is "not brand new", while also boasting a reasonable number of games played alongside normal W/D/L averages... So I went and reviewed several sets of games over the account's life (only 3 months), and it's clear to me that the individual DOES NOT have a history of maliciously cheating on this account. Furthermore, the level of play in the games I reviewed is typical of what I would expect for a player of this level (I'm 2000~2100, for reference). But in this case, I feel pretty confident stating that there was a VERY wide margin in terms of expected vs actual performance here. #2) Stockfish analysis indicates several middle-game moves (such as C5 & RxD6) were actually not good moves for white. Admittedly, this point is more difficult for me to combat, and primarily why I can't be 100% certain. I would need to better understand how chess engines work in a bullet game. However, my assumption here is that if an engine was indeed being used, that either: 1) Engine strength was inconsistently set at times... 2) Engine did not have enough time to fully calculate semi-complicated middle-game (potentially due to shortened time between moves). Perhaps the community can shed some light for me with regards to the following: * Can a chess engine be turned on or off in real-time? * Is an engine's playing strength & "move-time" frequency adjustable in-game? * If "move-time" is adjustable, is it impactful to an engine's calculation abilities? * Can a human override the engine at any point (ex. pre-moving)?

Sure -- He's definitely cheating. Look over the game with an engine -- 17. d5 with 18. Qe3 was played too quickly to have been seen. 19. c5 was too unnatural. King h2 is insane. Qd4 is too hard to spot at those speeds. Most of all for me is him not taking the g5 pawn but going back to c6 with queen to set up check and rook check. All of those were the top moves. Those cannot be found in bullet at those speeds, let alone by an 1600. Please check with an engine and then go back at look at the crazy speeds -- the ideas can make sense, but it's certainly impossible to see them at that speed, because they aren't natural. It wasn't the end part, IMO Qc6 is most telling.

@@milesabuv Move 24 when IMBoomer moved his king was an inaccuracy. Engine also said move 26 when rook takes is A BLUNDER. Explain that if he cheated. Pawn takes knight on 28 was a MISS for Hikaru, he should have dropped his queen back. Pawn takes pawn on move 32 was a blunder for Hikaru. That's after his misclick pawn move.

@@milesabuv Mine says it's a blunder. Either way, you have to say he started cheating right after the king move even though he made many best moves prior to it. You have holes in your narrative. RxD6 is -3.38 compared to Nxc6 which is -1.16. Quite the miss if he is cheating. Also, nothing about Hikaru's atrocious play which led to the easy mate. Had he not made the pawn error and then the pawn takes blunder he was still in the game.
