"I have never found a safe way to gunfight." Made my day, thank you very much for that. Excellent video.

I think Dave's technique makes great sense, slows you down, breaks your tunnel vision and keeps you ready to continue the fight if need be. Thanks Dave.

NO ONE has ever talked about doing the scan this way. Probably because we can't in a class or range environment, but it's an outstanding method of checking behind you. But... you must ensure that the threat or threats in front of you are DOWN and INCAPACITATED. Excellent instructional video.

God, I'm old. I remember you (and a lot of other "old school" trainers) WRITING about all the techniques you show in your videos in various books and articles in the 1990's (I started carrying a gun "professionally" in 1988). I love it when a "new" technique shows up and I have a picture of it in one of my old books. Thank you for presenting information that has kept me safe for all of those years, sir. Keep up the good work.

The only time I have ever seen a logical, concise way to do a complete scan. Being a senior I appreciate not having to figure out how to get my neck and spine to turn in directions they won't go. Thanks for the excellent vid.

Once again some great information. Always nice to get the detailed thoughts on why to do something as opposed to just "do this" and check the box to a routine.

I was taught check 360 but with the gun pointed up, I'm assuming, for the safety of other shooters on the line. And that we were looking, not only for other threats, but also possible cover and concealment areas. I have to say I like this technique much better, especially having your support hand up to protect your face. Thanks Dave!

That makes good sense I have never been in a gunfight thank God, but I have been in a few fist fights, and I have had friends of theirs taken interest in the fight The intervention almost never comes from the side, it's almost always from behind, or at least from the art that is behind most people peripheral vision

Thanks for the great video.i was accused of trolling because I said that watching the guy doing a gun review and every time he reholstered he would pull the gun to his chest and look left then right drove me nuts.he then told me he has been a firearms instructor for 32 years and he trained his students to do this.when told that I didn't see the benefit of it based on real world experience he was unhappy

Good information. At the academy, we were taught to break our tunnel vision that is inherent to gunfights. I'll never forget the lecture; "on ABC, NBC, CBS and now the FOX network, bad guys only come at you one at a time; this is not the case in real life. Learn to break your tunnel vision." Current instructors, to which I go for re-qualification, don't even teach that. We were also taught to "guard our melon" during the close encounters. I find that when I do the speed rock drill, the act of bringing my off gun hand up and over my forehead tends to shift my hips, and thus my holster in line with my adversary's centerline, for a proper K-5 controlled pair nearly every time, so I rock the gun toward him, and ground the butt to the top of the holster for retention and indexing; seems to work. They did teach the step into the known before exploring the unknown. I enjoyed your video. Thanks for posting!

I'm just getting into concealed carry and pistols but this is one thing I never understood about what I'm seeing. I was in the light infantry and you ALWAYS try to have 360 degree security. It's new to me thinking about always doing it all on my own without a team but if I had been separated I would have. It's combat thinking and you have to think that way! It can't just be some motion you do on the range. You have to be thinking about security. The movies with tactical guys that just get done taking out bad guys and then totally relax always make me laugh. Like when you take some out you know there's no more so then you don't have to be tactically aware.

The Safety Sally's are having a conniption fit right now, but since you tied in an SF dude's opinion into your theory they will begin to accept it, and now preach it as the internet gospel. Lol. Most of them live in their mom's basement anyway, and only come out to harass KZbinrs about clearing guns in videos. I'm all about being safe, but they really are out of touch. This is a great video. Thanks for the instruction!

Personally if I am in a gunfight out in the open and I was lucky enough to shoot the attacker first. let me tell you what I am going to be doing a split second later! I am going to be looking and heading to better cover as fast as my old ass can get to it.

Very hard to see anything with your heart is pumping peanut butter and tunnel vision is limiting what you see, hear and your reaction to those stimuli.
