This beautiful 1953 Metallic Blue Volkswagen Beetle Ragtop Bug crosses the 2024 Barrett Jackson Auction Block. I feel it went for OK money, should have went for more in my opinion as rare as a car that the 53 ragtop it.

But for any hardcore motorsports enthusiast, that's a steal for a icon. It's all relative..... I wish well.......

Most Barrett Jackson (BJ) attendees see a '53 Beetle only as another Beetle and you can hear the auctioneer only has a short time to present each car. Once he hit $50k, he was done and sold it. Most BJ cars are no reserve, so the seller is the one that has the most to lose on a rare VW. It's only going to get what it hits in 2 minutes.

We used to drive a 1968 ragtop in farm fields with the glass removed and had a hoot. Those days are a while ago now.

@@westerlywinds5684 No the 65, 66 and 67 all had Goode steel sliders. There were a few odd 1200 models for those years in Europe that had ragtops, so it’s possible, but highly unlikely.

We bought a '53 in the '90s for $2000. Registered all it's life with original 'GDT' Victorian plates......0ne of 31 cars sent to Australia to commence sales in 1954. Regent Motors were the first official owners and they used it as their promotion VW.....we were the 4th owner, with the 3rd owner, a Rolls Royce Workshop owner in Brighton, holding it since the late '50s. A matching numbers original car with the patina of time.

I agree it should of went for more but too bad the economy is not as strong as 2011 when the infamous bus sold for nearly 200k. I do wish the cars at auction would be on slow rotating platform showing the bidders all angles, would make them probably like the cars more thus increasing bids all around.
