Sinterklauss is just one I can think of and variations of him exist in Dutch folklore, then there is Belsnickel which is rooted in Germanic folklore which precedes Christianity even. Never heard of "Father Christmas" being Odin though. If anything "Santa Claus" is an amalgamation of different folkloric figures pieced together which are more rooted in Pagan traditions than in any kind of Judeo-Christian interpretation. The modern figure has been utilised in the same way that Christmas itself has: as a symbol of materialistic consumerism - that is our folklore lol. But even Christmas was rooted in pre-Christian religions. Santa here was right to say that he isn't a religious figure, he is a fairytale to enforce notions of greed and materialism upon children from a young age so that they become consumers when they grow up. I'm not trying to ruin Christmas, I'm just saying that "Santa" has many different origins and in his current form is an amalgamation of them, losing many of the more sinister characteristics of his folkloric ancestors and becoming a seemingly benevolent figure who provides children with presents, even though he is perhaps more sinister than ever, given that behind the cuddly smile and friendly charm lies a ploy to get children to become greedy. Also he essentially uses slave labour. Studied sociology, political theory/science and history amongst other things so I tend to ruin stuff lol. Also I don't trust a figure who climbs down the chimney and has kids sit on his lap. If a random dude did that, you'd be grabbing the shotgun lol.
