Fun fact: Billy Boyd was completely in on this. He and Dominic Monaghan came up with this idea when they found out that Elijah Wood wouldn’t be able to see the German journalists interviewing him. Billy almost participated in the interview, but he realized that if there were two voices, Elijah would immediately know it was him and Dom. So since Dom is fluent in German and could sell the accent, Dom did it by himself. Billy helped Dom come up with a few silly questions, so he was part of this classic prank - but he will be the first to tell you that Dom just let loose and did his own thing as the interview unfolded, and he came up with stuff like “will you wear wigs” entirely on his own.

Something that I just noticed was that after the reveal, Elijah starts looking directly at the camera (so Dom can make eye contact) instead of where he's looking for the rest of the interview which was at an off-screen marker to give the illusion that they are speaking to one another in the same room. You can really tell that he was trying his best to take the interview somewhat seriously. It also appears that some of the crew on Elijah's side weren't aware either because at one point Elijah says "wait" and waves them off from stopping the interview (7:32). This will always be an amazing watch.
