That's because they use a service called RiiConnect24, a revival project for the WiiConnect24 feature. The neat thing is, this also works on Wii U, and that wasn't even given WiiConnect24 and was supposed to be an OG Wii exclusive.

​​@@katcsizmadire u sure u used 'ConnectMii'? You have to use it EVERY time you boot into vWii, it's not a permanent change. And obviously, make sure you ARE connected to the Internet. But I would assume you've already tried that.
