This week, I built another mech for my wild western world. It's the same class as the Wandering Watchtower Mech I built last year, but this variant was customized for use in logging operations. It was inspired by a suggestion from my friend, Max.
I get my miniature foliage from Diorama Presepe: www.dioramapresepe.com/en/

Its funny, the tank hull is a sherman tank, historically they put wood on the sides like you did sometimes to counter magnetic tank mines

Like how the germans put that weird paste on their tanks for the same purpose.

I think it also served as more armour so enemies wouldnt be able to destroy the treads as easy
@siy1580
@siy1580 2 жыл бұрын
When it came to adding logs to the tanks it was done for 2 reasons 1st one was the more practical which is a anti diching log that can get the tank out of mud when it's stuck, the 2nd reason was as extra armor in all reality it didn't help at all mostly giving the crew the feeling better protection, and at best it would have a chance at defecting a poorly aimed panzerfaust.
@AlbertoDsign
@AlbertoDsign 2 жыл бұрын
@@killianharrah3745 IIRC zimmerit wasn't to separate the magnetic mines from the metal, but to shake them off due to the vibrations of the vehicle.

The Timberjack company actually made, back in the day, a functional six-legged walking harvester prototype. I believe it was inferior to the wheeled ones in pretty much every way, especially the speed, so it never became a produced vehicle for the market. You can still find videos of it in action, though. And it's indeed terribly slow.

When you mentioned a saw I thought "wow!!" I could see this with a "swinging saw" for felling trees but could be in a fight with a monster trying to attack the logging crew out on a job somewhere! A swinging saw like the one used below our modern helicopters to trim the right-of-ways along large power transmission lines!!

These videos are so relaxing to watch to wind down from the day. I just wanted to say, how I love how everything looks cobbled together, granted that will happen when using different models and media, but it adds to the story telling. No singular construct looks likes like it was made in a factory. Parts might have been, but the end result feels like the builders were figuring it out as they went.

Hey boylei, I just got my first full time job as a construction worker. I put up suspended ceilings all day. This work requires that I wear stilts. When I saw these stilts I thought it would be cool to draw a mech suit designed to look like the stilts. It would be cooler if you kitbashed this mech suit instead.

I'm really loving the fantastical world your creating. Especially the town, different mechs, the damn monsters that roam this western world. I think a look at the military would be interesting, all we've seen are civilian mechs, and while they are big and intimidating I'd imagine a union mech would tower over. Whether their would be to repel native tribes, protect forts or towns from monster attacks. Hell, I imagine the union could utilize the mechs and have like, walking forts just roaming the countryside. Idk, just rambling. Love what you do man.

If those mech legs are made of wood there would be mechwrights selecting trees as ideal timber for mech legs. You'd then have logs that had been sawn into large slabs laying in yards where mechwrights shape them with broadaxes and adzes. Kinda love the idea of seeing little people hand hewing giant cocktail forks from rough timber.

I am absolutely addicted to your videos. I have beem working in small scale miniatures since the early 90s. Your videos have reminded me that when I was feally young my dream job was to make dioramas for museums. I hadn't remembered that for years. You have inspired me and I have bought myself some guitar strings, some tny diamind and some brass mesh and bought some leftover model parts to add to an assortment of found objects I alresdy had to make my bits box. I am currently working on a stempunk miniature version of the neverwas haul, but when that is done I am going to start my own town. I just have to decide what, where and when it will be from. Thank you so much for doing these videos. Someone else said that he found them relaxing and your voice is just as relaxing as you narate. Keep up the great work.
