Great story: My son, Wyatt, and I stopped by the shop last week and had the pleasure of meeting Matt, Ed, Skeeter, Kaulin (sp?) and a few of the dogs (Lady, Max, Turbo, and Peanut) . They were all great and exactly what you'd expect. We got some great shots of the heavy wrecker, Banana, and Moorvair along with Ed, Matt, and Skeeter. Lizzie's welds on the new build look great btw. BEST PART: They did something amazing for us! My son just turned 16, but he'll never be able to drive. He has special needs (brain issue, non-verbal, permanently wheelchair-bound). Skeeter happily helped me put Wyatt in the driver's seat of the Moorvair and even fired it up and revved the engine. My son lit up the biggest smile and laugh, and so did I! Skeeter helped me grab some incredible pics and vids, and this is an experience we will always treasure. I'm beaming just writing this! Thank you all for being so kind to my son and for speaking to him just like he was a typical teenager. It was after-hours and you didn't even have to give us the time of day, let alone welcome us in and make us feel like we were part of the MOOR family. This was an incredibly meaningful and memorable experience, and we are forever grateful!

Matt, As a former KW Designer I offer some thoughts on your cab mounting. Most Kenworth conventional cabs have a mount in each front corner of the cab but the 2 rear mounts are about 8" apart in the center on a special rear cab mount crossmember. That way the cab is basically mounted in a triangular fashion so that the cab cannot be stressed by any frame flex. It is like a 3 legged stool always has all legs on the ground by design. No frame flex can be passed to the cab trying to bend it. The triangle mounting saves the cab because no flex is transferred to the cab trying to destroy it. Your frame may be strong enough to have no flex but if it flexes at all consider redoing the rear cab mounts to the center on a special crossmember so that the triangular mounts save the cab. Just a thought. Nice Job on your build so far. Best Wishes, Skip (This may have been mentioned before but I didn't read the other 2000+ comments and I realize that this may never get to you but I hope it does because it is pretty important.)

Great video, as always. When I was a kid my dad had a dump truck with the same style International cab. Finally, I have something to offer to Matt'S off road recovery! After many years of tearing up hole saws working as an electrician, I discovered you can cut the shank off an old phillips screw driver and chuck it up in the hole saw. Use a 1/4" bitto drill the pilot hole, then use the hole saw with the screwdriver to make the larger hole. The screwdriver won't break off like the hardened steel drill bit.

Matt, when you get older, one day you will NEED to wear some bifocal safety glasses to see what you are doing! A trick I learned to prevent fogging is to take one drop of liquid dish soap and rub it on both the inside and outside of the lenses. Then take a microfiber cloth to buff out the soap. Also helps to fill in some of the small scratches that safe glasses always seem to have (no mater how careful you are with them!) Besides, wearing safety glasses will save you lots of time by avoiding an Emergency Room run to get a metal splinter out of your eye (been there, done that!)

Thinking about the winch, it would be cool to install a snatch block right under the winch to use when needing more leverage. Also, the wrecker is so high, having a detachable or permanently mounted lower roller might be handy. You could simply route the winch line at the height you need it. I'm just thinking how low some of these new motorhomes are, and that you might want a lower winch line angle for some jobs : )

Having the ability to lower the cable is worthwhile and would be a great addition to the build. Even large trucks these days are running plastic bumpers so sometimes you want the cable to go under those to reduce the chance of damage.

Another cool build by Matt and crew. Lizzy has become a great welder, even overhead. The rear steer will help to maneuver and to walk the wrecker sideways to help get in the right position for the recovery. It would be nice to have had two cabs so Robby could make a crew cab to be able to haul the whole crew in. Gotta be cool with the old International cab, not something you see everyday like the Morrvair.
@benjurqunov2 жыл бұрын
Weld two cabs together, but since it can steer from both ends...face the cabs opposite directions and controls from both ends too.

You guys are good ppl 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿 I'm a Michigan Jeep offroader. We have some dunes at Silver Lake but nothing like the actual desert lol we spend most our time on the trails. Love the channel

Matt: it’s Pitch, ROLL, and yaw! Lizzie: you’re a certified badass! Not only are you one hell of a hard worker but you can weld with the best of them. I hear you’re halfway decent at riding a horse too! I cannot get enough of this channel. I would kill to be a part of that team.

Yup, "roll, pitch, and yaw" for rotation around the axes, and "surge, sway, and heave" for movement along the axes. Maybe someone else knows if there are terms of art for the various bending and twisting directions? The only one I know is "hogging".

I watched Robby's video of them funishing up the Golden Nugget, and it occurred to me how incredible it is how far two buddies with an old jeep, a stretchy rope and a cell phone have come. And how far the blessings have spread. The new mega wrecker is looking great! If you build a winch out of an old differential, you can narrow it all the way to the center section and hook a separate parking brake cable to each side. Put a spool/drum on one side and use the parking brakes to power in, free spool, hold, or slip in a controlled manner. Then you can release the load as you start loosing traction and pull it back in as you gain traction. Being able to yo-yo the load is what makes log skidders so productive. Even a grapple skidder does it a few feet with the arch. Not to mention a pto or hydraulic driven differential will have a much greater duty cycle than any electric winch.

In one video Matt introduced somebody as helping them with the hydraulics of the heavy wrecker. They might only use it for the boom, but once they have a hydraulic system, they can power other things with it.

The heavy wreaker looks great y'all doing a great job, Lizzy is quite the welder, look forward to see next faze of build one step closer to a working rig, great video ya'll God bless ❤😉👍

It's starting to look like a real "non rat rod" truck! Very cool!! Love watching this channel for all the cool things I get to see/learn. Keep on going and soon, the Big Bird will be flying on the recoveries! And on the All Abilities Park....that is BEYOND cool! So nice and needed!! Glad I had a little part in making it happen, but it's YOU and the team Matt that really did the work!!

Name wise..... "Grunkle Wrecker"- "MORR's Big Toe"- "Ol' Yeller"- "Big Banana"- "Yella Desert Crab"- "Harvester of Sorrow"- "International Scavenger"- "Monster Trax"- "Colossal Crawler"- "Iron Extractor" Just trying to help shorten the name from 5 words to.....not 5 words. Love everything you guys build. Also, Lizzy is stacking dimes with that welder!

I love this new rig! It's monstrous and amazing! I've been watching your videos for a while now, and I have one thing to say about you brother, I'd give almost anything to work for someone like you. Your actually out in the shop working with everyone, you admit when you make mistakes, and you come up with solutions to your mistakes. There aren't many bosses like you around my area in the fabrication field sadly. Keep up the great videos brother! And I'll keep admiring Lizzy's FANTASTIC welding skills!

Turn the heat down , I love your fabrication work Matt and yes! Lizzy is doing an amazing job and her welds are looking a lot better, practice makes perfect brother and good job Lizzy Cowgirl! Pretty and a really good welder too! Always start your mig and always adjust your heat downward first then your wire speed, sizzling sound usually means too much heart and Lizzy it’s starving for wire! Pecking is a sign of too much wire but you want bacon frying sounds, and after a hours on the mig you’ll get the sound memorized in your mind! You’ll know just what it needs and as far as the weld you want it curved mounded and not stretched looking , that’s showing signs of too much heat or moving too slow ahead! Looks great Matt and crew! 👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👌🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸

Matt I have a great idea for a fundraiser for the all abilities park. You should get the chamber of commerce to host a demo derby. You, Paul and Robby can all compete while inviting other influencers to compete in a special heat as well as having regular heats. This would be a cash cow and a great time they could live stream the event. That's something I'd pay to see and I'm a cheapskate.

Those welds look magnificent, Lizzy! May I suggest something from my own personal welding experience? long sleeves! I have very sun-tolerant skin and just like you started out without skin protection, but now many many years later I can't even do a full day of work in the sun outside before I get sunburn. It increased my chances for skin cancer dramatically. Would hate to see you experience the same.

Lizzy, take note, I'm in the same boat as him, protect your arms skin and back of hands from the sun. Use Long Sleeves.
