Maybe a rigid inner fender out of sheet metal, braced up a bit but still open on top to get down to the starter/easy access to the plugs, mounted to the frame, not the hood/front clip though. Thought the same, last thing you want 30 miles into the hills is to have a branch get speared up through the engine bay and start ripping lines and wires. It would also help to deflect anything from spearing straight into the cab.

Matt, a suggestion for your side winches, on our heavy rescue (fire department) we had one 20,000 lb electric winch built into a receiver system that we could just move to the sides, front or rear as needed. Just slid into the 2 inch receiver, plugged into power (each site had its own plug) and good to go. Saved us a huge amount on money not having to buy 4 winches.

Matt, I've never been into off roading or rock crawling, but I can see what you're doing with the placement of things like engine, cab and so on. Maybe it's my lift truck training, but you always have to keep centre of gravity AND combined centre of gravity in mind (vehicle plus the load plus height of load and, in your case, severe angles). I got that right away when you started this build. Don't know what engineering credentials you have but sometimes hands on experience beats a degree any day. And if something needs fixing after a few field tests, well you can do that too. Can't wait to see the beast earn its pay. In fact, if you haven't already chosen a name, I think "The Beast" would be apt. That think looks like serious business even when you guys are just pushing in and out of the shop. Lots of funny stuff in this one, was a joy to watch. I've watched the wrecker build from the start. Remind, Talk About the sealed frame with air (Ballast). I haven't heard you talk about that since you built the frame. You put a lot of time into welding it AIR-TIGHT solid as well as the 30-something rebar pegs welded through to take out the bow of the cap of the frame ballast. I think that was not only essential but it also looks SAHWEET like rivets and frame stiffeners. Let's see that 54" tire beast in action ASAP! By the way, I'm so impressed how Lizzy has become such an important part of the team especially since Rudy parted to make his own channel. She welds (not typically the desired job but doesn't complain, keep ahold of her so she doesn't take her skills elsewhere), she drives the many various recovery vehicles being yanked and towed as well has a great personality for the camera, and VERY EASY ON THE EYES. When my Dad did his National Service (Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, or RAEME) in the early 60's, they had to winch one Bedford 4x4 truck up a hill with another Bedford 4x4 truck. As the old bloke used to tell the story, they put the one with the bald tyres as the winching anchor, hoping to use the one with some tyre tread to add some traction for the winched vehicle. OMG, Matt, Paul, and Robby, you and all the gang who have put countless hours of love and time into getting the nugget back on the road it's just amazing seeing the nugget come back to life; it has been a great project, and an excellent advert for all three of the business .eds is going to be without words totally magical. IT'S A RIDE BACK TO THE FUTURE.

I'm amazed at all that I see and hear in this video episode. I've seen this after some of the more up to date videos that show the new wrecker completed more. It is odd to hear you answer some the weird questions that people confront you with about the way you have chosen to build the wrecker. I figure that you know your business due to experience and you have your desires in mind as you think about the features you want in the vehicle. I watched the reveal of the Golden Nugget to Ed already and you guys (as a group) turned out a magnificent quality rig. It made Ed happy beyond your greatest hopes and desires. What a group. And what you do for each other to show your appreciation is heartwarming. Keep it all up as you have been doing, it makes for good watching. To Each one of this group, I am giving one of my sincere appreciation rewards for what you have done and the kind of quality people you are.

I’ll be disappointed in the entire build if it has a functioning fuel gauge. But can’t wait to see this wrecker on the trails doing what it’s being built to do.

Matt, consider installing low profile air ride seat(s). The 1973 International Harvester Fleetstar Class 7 trucks had those factory installed. Air ride seats are easier on the spin.

Matt. I had no idea how everything is going to work the way you want it to but you had fabricated so many off-road vehicles that I have no idea how you did it so I had 100% confidence that you're going to get this one right too. I do not have a clue but I know that you do. God bless you and your family and your crew and keep up the videos because we love watching them so very much

Happy birthday Rudy, here’s hoping you had a good one. It was nice to see the entire crew together who have rebuilt and painted the Golden Nugget. I am sure Paul and his brother (Ben, I think it is) will manage to finish the Golden rig without any damage for sure. Just have to slow things down a little. Ooh, I have already seen them working on it and they are doing just fine. I don't know why these armchair moaners complain on all of your channels including Rory's channel, he gets hammered by them. It is OK to ask a question but anyone who doubts any of you guys should know better. Everything you guys’ touch (Robby and his crew, Rory and his crew, Paul & Ben and their helpers including yourself and crew Matt, you all do outstanding jobs, and I would put my money on you guys anytime. Thanks for all the update, Matt. I saw another large offroad wrecker, maybe called Metal Masher, not sure but was at the 2019 Easter Jeep Safari and run by Kenny Hauk, it’s a 6 x 6 on 44" rockers and ran the entire trail. So, there is no doubt in my mind Matt that your Monster wrecker will do the job once it has its shakedown and any adjustments required are made. I have seen you Matt, using a tape measure at least twice now, you really need to be careful, I have heard it can become habit forming! Thanks for everything guys and girls until next time - see ya.

Oh! I'm so happy that you're going to have many winches on all four sides like Rory's Trailmater. I had never seen that before but watching Rory's truck do recoveries it's just amazing how well it works. And now the industry is getting away from steel cables, it makes it safer and more friendly too. And yes! I realize you might need steel cables still for certain heavy towing applications. 🌝 Not everybody leaves critical comments, I'm learning and I love what you're doing on this build!! 😎🌝

I usually don't comment but I truly enjoy your channel even though I am not an off roader per se. I have gone off road for work purposes including a stint salvage logging with a 6 x 6 military wrecker, driven in some gnarly places. I applaud your choice of engines. During my last business venture I had a 2005 3/4 ton suburban with that engine in it. IT WAS A BEAST !!!!!!! I pulled a trailer usually 12-14k lbs. It never slowed down. I lived in the Dallas area and had to drive at 75-80 just to survive. Again, love your show. Wrecker is amazing. Cant wait to see how it turns out.

I would highly recommend hanging the HVAC unit aginst the ceiling vs storing it in the attic. This is because maintenance is easier so it will be done more often. Every new air handler is also poorly insulated, the unit will have a longer lifespan in a conditioned space. Leaving the duct exposed will also save you money not having to insulate it.
