My favorite subject to teach this year has been Guest Hollow's Botany curriculum. When my high schooler picked botany as an elective, I had no idea what to do. I could have made up something myself but most suggestions I found online were either for lower grades or college classes. Nothing in-between. Guest Hollow to the rescue! It was a little daunting at first, but once we figured out the smorgasbord approach, it went smoothly. And we are both learning so much! There's no workbook for botany, but my kiddo likes to discuss what they've learned and does a "Plant of the Week" writeup. It's been a great class for both of us.

My oldest LOVES the botany course too! It was a perfect choice since she's in the "plant obsessed" stage where every inch of her room has a plant on it. Since I do a lot of gardening, it's been wonderful to have her work alongside with me and putting what's she's learning into practice.

The online textbook largely covers government, but yes it does have recommendations for books to get and use on different weeks. Like many literature based courses, it will use these additional resources to give your students a full understanding of the subjects (gov, econ, and finance). While I choose to purchase the books in advance, many are available at local libraries, used bookstores, and even on Audible. You don't need to have EVERY book recommended, but my student has really enjoyed many of the ones she has read this year.

With how much it teaches on economics and personal finance, I would say yes. Your student can still earn a full credit for each of those easily. You could just skip the portions and books that are specific to US government. There are some Govt books though that I think are great for everyone- Slanted is one of them (how the media has affected our thinking on political matters and policy) and Are You Liberal, Conservative or Confused? is another great one. They also have recommended books that deal with logic and politics, one on free speech and even some dystopian novels

Hi - I might have missed it in your video - but how many credits would you recommend for this course?

I’m planning on giving a half credit (one semester credit) for each of the 3 parts. So half credit in government, half credit Econ and half credit personal finance.

Hi, you might have said tgis and i missed it but: how do you put this on their transcript/how do you do the credits for this class since it sounds like it is 3 full subjects....

It does really cover all 3 subjects fully. So my plan is to put it in as 1/2 credit (1 semester each) for Economics, Government and Personal Finance

@@mypracticallyimperfectlife , we need a 1/2 credit for all 3. How much of the schedule are you having to do to achieve all 3 credits? A half credit here is roughly 75 hours.
