Have you ever used a Guest Hollow course? How did it go for you?

I'm always curious to see the physical place that other GH users write their plans & how, so I'm glad you shared that.
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool9 ай бұрын
Yes! Same! Love seeing how people actually plan things and with GH being a bit different… super helpful for me too.

So many resources! We have been using the labs for Chemistry in the Kitchen this year for Emma which has been really good. Someone just mentioned on one of my videos about this course, I didn't even think to look at Guest Hollow for an Econ course. My oldest only needs an english credit next year, so we are looking to add some things that she can take part in with my sophomore. Thank you for sharing!

Definitely so many great ideas in Guest Hollow’s courses. I’m in the throes of planning out my daughter Chemistry in the Kitchen for next year!

This was helpful and great. Been going back and forth about trying GH. How do your kids and you do with reading especially textbooks from an electronic device? Personally I prefer physical materials.
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool9 ай бұрын
We don't really do many textbooks in our homeschool, so I can't say what it's like listening to those on audiobook. I do think that, based on looking at this guide, probably less of these books would be good as an audiobook. Maybe some of the extras, but not the informational books or spines (most likely).

@@CalmintheChaosHomeschool maybe I didn’t catch that the government unit doesn’t have a text? Maybe biology is one of the only ones with a digital text? Have you used any of their subjects that include a text? Wondering which ones have texts. I saw that the geography unit has digital readings. Did y’all do those and like them?
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool9 ай бұрын
@@TheChan7 oh… sorry! I was thinking physical textbook vs audio! lol! Yes! There is an online textbook… we have used their geography textbook and I found it really easy to get through with my kids if we took it in small chunks (since my kids are in middle school and the course is for high schoolers). Now I assign my girls the textbook and workbook and the just get on the computer to read the textbook and answer the questions. It’s really best online because my favorite part is the ingrained KZbin videos that break up the reading and help to explain the text. When I’m doing it with the whole family, I hook up my computer and have the textbook on the tv as I read through it too them ands watch the videos.

I’m using this next school year with my 17 yo 12th grader. My plan is use just the books needed for the workbook. I’ll let him pick a few other books that seem of interest to him. He’s heading into the workforce and not going to college.
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool9 ай бұрын
I hope you and he has a great year with this. I like your plan!

He’s pretty independent so I’m still wondering how I’m going to handle the actually day to day things.
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool9 ай бұрын
Like how to let him know what to do? And for this course or for all?
@klevesque9 ай бұрын
@@CalmintheChaosHomeschool yes, how to let him know what to do. Which videos to watch. Books to read is easy. But I don’t know if I want to give him access to the pdf schedule or not. Maybe I can print it out then highlight what I want him to do. Then he can just go on the schedule and click the hyperlink.
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool9 ай бұрын
@@klevesque I think that would be a good way to go about it. Or you could even give him an edited version of the schedule that would have the direct links on it (as well as his assigned teaching).

Guest Hollow is just too secular for my taste. I prefer resources with a stronger biblical world view.
@CalmintheChaosHomeschool9 ай бұрын
I totally get that! Different curriculum works differently for different families. Guest Hollow can be somewhere in the middle at times… too secular for some and not secular enough for others :)
