When I was a kid, I bought one of the early issues of this kit. This was about 1972. It was molded in white and had 1/16 inch metal axles. I still have a few pieces of it. When I returned to the hobby in the late 1990's, the newer versions were on the hobby shop shelves. I bought three of them over the next several years. I opened two of them, they look like yours - molded in blue, tinted glass, and plastic axles. On the back of the decal sheet is "CG 1300" and "2/92" written by hand. The first is the kit number, the second could be the month/year. The decal sheet also identifies Jo-Han as a division of Seville Enterprises. One had a label on the box "ENCORE LIMITED PRODUCTION, 1 OF 3000". That kit included a flyer dated 2002 that showed other Jo-han offerings. I used two of mine for parts (67 Fury convert rebuild, 68 Fury wagon resin kit). One is still sealed.

Growing up, my granddaddy had a '68 Fury that I have fond memories of. I used this kit to build a model of it. I just eliminated the police specific parts and put them in my stash box. It was mist green with a black interior and a 383 under the hood. Great kit and a great video! Thanks!👍

It's not the 72 version it is a newer re released version. It's a 1968 Plymouth. The original release had clear glass and molded in white styrene The emergency lights were tinted clear plastic which you could remove the tint with Easy-Off oven cleaner. The Los Angeles police lights were called tomato soup cans. Someone swapped the boxes as this release had a banner on it that denoted 'molded in blue' but left off the notion of (UGH) green glass. Reference info for you: Detroit- Double light bar- Federal sign and signal Vis-A-Bar, siren PA20 flat gray LAPD siren- Federal C-5 NYPD siren- Federal P660 'pulsator' NYPD light- Federal Beacon -Ray w/ dome w/high base Chicago light -Federal Beacon-Ray w/flat top Interior control console: Radio- squared off Motorola Motrac beige, red and green lights and black knobs. siren head- For electronic siren: blue face PA 20, brown face PA15. black knobs red light in center top. red button on left side. Microphone: Motrac blue back side and beige front, gray grill have fun building it, lots of bare metal. greg

1:11 the M109 is not a "tank" but as mentioned a Self Propelled Gun. In other words a cannon on tracks. It lacks the necessary equipment to be used efficiently as a tank.

There was also a variation of that Fury kit with hemi and slicks instead of the cop gear. The box art looked like a Sox&Martin clone, all before they licensed kits with the funny car and pro stock kits.

Thanks for the review. I saw this kit on the shelf so many times and always passed. I did build their 1960 Plymouth station wagon as a cop car. That's when I discovered some of JoHan's red clear parts were clear parts tinted with clear red, although poorly. Johan kits were not bagged inside at all. Someone did all that thankfully. Be very careful, the plastic is very brittle.

Bagging is good. The vinyl tires can sometimes soften and leave unsightly marks on the plastic parts.

Great kit Matt. I love Jo-Hans and MPC kits. I have three or four unbuilt and ywo built as unmarked police cars. Id like to build one as a taxi. Yes the pladtic is a bit brittle. This 68 Fury has the proper depth interior. Some Jo- Hans had shallow unrealistic interiors. Thejy possibly were copies of promo interiors. Thanks for sharing

Great deal on the Fury. It's in pretty nice shape too. Other comments propose it's a last run kit (with the USA oldies run) - I'd have to agree. It's very likely. The registry being off on the decals, the color, along with the flash are the biggest clues. Still a heck of a find - I see built ups - as in to restore, not nicely done shelf ready builds - going for what you gave. Thanks for sharing.

Some note about the Police Car kit: 1. Jo-han never wrapped their parts. But we all wished they did! So often you'd pop open a brand new Jo-han kit and find that the were windows scratched by other parts trees in the box. 2. 1300 was a product number, not a price. ($13 for that kit in 1972 would have been pretty astronomical!) If a price was included with the product number, it was usually preceded by a dash; e.g. GC1300-250. 3. The model is of a 1968 Plymouth. 4. Lousy registration on the decal sheet, lots of flash, and plastic axles were typical of Jo-han kits during their later years, when it seemed like the people at the company just didn't care all that much. I've built a couple of these kits, but that was years ago. It's fair to say the any kit that was based on tooling for a promo would look and feel similar. They were tooled for quick assembly so a lot of things would be molded as a unit, like rear seats (and sometimes front seats) in interior buckets, or exhaust and suspension parts on chassis. So yes, a kit like this does remind me of similar promo-based items by AMT and MPC.

Re: those Predator carburetor parts in the Lightning, I have one each of the AMT Ford pickup annual kits from 1992-95, including the original '94 Lightning, and the reissue Lightning shown in your video. (They also did a '93 longbox kit but it's a snap kit with no motor.) I'm no engine buff, so I can't vouch for the accuracy of the kits, but here's the story of the parts. The basic chrome tree was shared by each of the AMT Ford pickup kits. The Predator carb parts are on an extension to the chrome tree which does not appear in the '92 or '95 annuals. It first appeared in the 1992 Flareside and '93 Shortbox kits. The Predator carbs, along with the manifold and air cleaner, were intended for a custom version in those kits, and the chrome tree extension continued into '94, but was dropped for '95. Round2 added it back in for the Lightning reissue. I didn't check to see if the rest of the engine parts are different from kit to kit, but here's what the boxes say: for the 1992-'93 kits, and the '95, "5.8 Liter." For the '94 Lightning (original issue and reissue), "351 cu. in."

I always thought Johann had some interesting subjects. They always had great engine detail but lack in the chassis detail. I have that kit I bought when they were reissued in the 90s. I dont know what ever happened to the company that restarted them then? Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting old kit. I believe I would have built that black and white Los Angeles version. That color scheme is almost exactly how police cars were painted here in Norway wen I was a kid (1970s). The only difference was the roof and trunk lid were white, so only the wings were black. A pretty cool color scheme for a police car I think. Nowadays police cars are just filled with big bright yellow and orange stickers, and they look like clown cars. Very visible in traffic of course, but not a cool look, like the old ones. And there were no Fury police cars here, as I know of. Most of them were Volvo 140s and 240s and some Opel Rekords. There were a few Valiant and Dart police cars though, but not many.

Nice review Matt. I have built this kit several times over the years. The last one is on my channel I built as a Florida Highway patrol car . I did a ton of work on it correcting some gaps in the wheel wells, and hinged the hood and truck. It's a great kit for my realm of building. great find! I hope you build it.

A lot of car kits have spare parts from other versions of the kit. My latest car kit, MPC's 70 Dodge Super Bee, has a nearly complete spare engine and parts for an earlier edition. I like this as it boosts my "spares box". As a kid I had two Jo-Han kits of the 1974 AMC Javelin AMX. My only current Jo-Han car kit is the 1969 AMC AMX two-seater. These cars are remeniscent of the earlier AMT kits. I am currently building the AMT 66 Mustang, and the chassis with everything molded in is very similar

That old police car is a very interesting model, and I like that they gave a choice of different liveries for that era, which would be good for those who like these kinds of models to show how the color schemes changed over the years. In terms of the F150 Lightning kit, I recall the short box F150 kit, which they modified to make this one, had an optional Holley carb set up as well as the standard EFI unit, so I guess they did the same thing here using a different aftermarket manufacturer.

The M-109 is a Self Propelled (artillery piece) Howitzer (We used to have them here in Canada as well). After Jo-han went under somebody bought up some of their molds, they first released the 1959 Rambler Station Wagon kit, then did a 1950's Plymouth Belvedere, and also a curbside kit of the Chrysler Turbine Car (these were small limited runs). The next kit that was going to be released was that Plymouth Fury Police Car. The story goes that he used to farm out the molds to different companies to actually produce the kits and for this particular kit there was some kind of dispute over money or rights with the company that was to produce the kits and in the negotiation process the molds were either lost/stolen/ or destroyed. At any rate the molds for that kit are lost to history never to be repopped again.

Matt, Good video. I used to work in a plastic injection plant. The flash on the parts can be caused from two things, 1st over packing the mold witch will cause it to blow open a little this will let more plastic in and will roll the edge on the mold over at the parting line. 2nd putting the mold in a press that is two small ( tonage to small and will not keep the mold closed well injecting the plastic in witch again blows the mold open. Thanks
