Typically stun isn't going to come enabled by default, and the actor will still need a stun code to perform the action itself. Most of the cheaper Chinese radios come with the option in the settings, but it's usually only actually implemented on commercial radios with some exceptions. Of course, they can lookup stun codes if they know your radios model and manufacturer. But It's not like anyone can just send the codes over and disable your radio without you enabling the feature, and providing them your stun code, or model?

I’m not sure what I proved in that video with that Motorola then? There are no “codes” in the DMR standard - it’s just a command in the header and is common to the standard not each device. Unless I have misunderstood?

If you are using Hytera radios, there is a feature that enables you to restrict the “DMR Control Functions”. You can disable each individually *OR* you can require an “over the air” validation code for each individual feature. The OTA code is a 16 character hexadecimal code that is unique to each radio OR you can simply use the same code for a particular group OR for your entire fleet of radios. I was a /\/\otorola “snob” for years after starting with an issued HT-220 2x channel portable using crystals and channel elements. No digital ANYTHING back in the 1970’s. LOL

I STILL use /\/\ when I need a multi-band P25 radio, but have really grown to really love the Hyteras for analog and DMR use. (they also have Tetra radios, but I’m in the US with few systems out there) They are NOT “Cheap Chinesium” radios. (priced approx the same as Motorola), but are incredibly rugged and easy to use and some come in super mini sized housings. But, my favorite feature is REAL “FPP”. Motorola abandoned comprehensive in the field programming with the APX line Hytera permits (if authorized) field modification of nearly every programming option from the front keypad without the need for a laptop. If you are using DMR for personal, commercial or public safety use, the BEST FEATURE = “Pseudo Trunking”!! It DOUBLES your spectrum capacity! You do NOT have to set a dedicated “slot” for voice + data traffic. You can select (by channel) “Pseudo Trunking” and the radio will select the currently “free” slot to transmit on. And, conversely, all units configured the same way will receive the traffic. I know I screwed this up. Basically, all radios set to “pseudo trunking” make use of both slots without the user doing a thing. You do not have to segregate specific groups of users to a slot, limiting your capacity. Google it and you’ll be amazed. (Not for the Hams here…. It won’t really be a great feature if using Brandmeister or other system.

Hi @PowderMill - there's some useful information here, I have not found with MotoTrbo that selective access can be used to turn off the stun command as demonstated (it can secure remote monitor though, at least as far as I found). I have many and varied DMR sets here including Hytera which I also personally like so I'll take a look at those and see if the series I have are in any way more secure. Thanks for making this point and that's good information for anybody who chances on this video! Cheers for the comment :)
