History of the Chevy II AKA nova. This is the second generation of the Chevy II (1966-1967). This is an in-depth look at one of Chevy holly grail cars (this isn’t a rear one with only a handful made conflicting info some say 6 other say 7 L79 Chevy II NOVAs produced for the 67 model year. More where made in 66 but 327 is different and the engine is everything that makes the L79 for 67 model year special) in-depth look plus go over all buttons switches and knobs..
Special thanks to street machinery and classic cars

I recently saw a video of the 3 remaining sitting side by side at a show. The L79 was a hemi killer cause of it's light weight and was faster than the L79 powered Vette!

I had a red 66. My brother and I had both 66 Novas in high school. We had the fastest cars at 3 local high schools. They were light, small and fast.

Tachometer is a dealer accessory available over the parts department counter and could be placed in any GM vehicle.

Your automotive exploration continues. I wish you would compare the Chevy II to the Falcon, Valiant/Dart and Rambler Rebel rather than a Mustang. The Chevy II was an low budget car as were the Falcon, etc. It’s just that Chevy did one thing better than any other American car company and that was building a high performance version of almost every model they made. 325 HP in a light Chevy II made it very competitive. Ford never put a 289 HiPo in a Falcon, a missed opportunity. Dodge and Plymouth did put a HiPo 273 in their early cars. Almost all exterior door handles looked that from every mfg. The safety latch to release the front seat back was required by law as of Jan 1, 1968, so GM was already doing that. Back then every car had a full size spare and all American cars had bias ply tires. The L79 had the F41 performance suspension and I think it also had heavy duty radiator/brakes/alternator. I was a Ford guy but always appreciated GM, especially Chevy, making a sleeper high performance version like the L79.

Yeah I will consider doing Chevy two versus falcon nobody watches them I compared AK series to AD series Chevy truck I really wanna do first generation Corvair versus second-generation Corvair or first generation Nash Healy versus second generation Nash Healy But yeah totally agree and like I said moving forward this is going to be a Classic Car channel I’m not gonna do any new vehicles on it frankly there’s enough coverage of the new cars.. unless there’s a really cool new car this is always gonna be Classic Car channel.. i’m hoping one day it will be the go to car channel it’s not perfect yet.. but it’s getting better

Chevy II doors locked inside, by pushing the handle down. 1967 has a round lock mechanism, which prohibits the door handle to be pulled upward to unlock. I "broke into" my Grandmothers '63 Nova by using a bungee cord to pull the handle up. She had the window cracked open just enough. I just wanted to sit in it.

I was under the impression that the L79 in the 1966 Novas and Chevy II were rated at 350 hp and 360 ft lbs of TQ. I never heard of a 325 hp rating.

5481 l79 in 66 l79 in 67 hp rating was at lower rpm than corvette according to grump jenkins chevy stop production of 67 chevy2 l79 so it would not compete with new camaro
