My wife and I are building a lookout room 25' off the ground on top of our post and beam building. All the lumber we are using is lumber we are milling here on site. The size of this post and beam building is 53' x 40'.

Loved your comments about the Massey tractor in the mud.. It was made to run in the mud.. Don't forget more then half the population lives with an asphalt road. Oh my; it's muddy out there.. ha ha just remember you and Heather have the capacity to survive

FYI I don’t know anyone in my circle (I’m 73), that is of your generation, that works harder than you- or that is more skilled in fabrication than you Cecil. Same for the hard work Heather contributes. I’ve told you before you are lucky to have Heather! My father and Grandfather that I worked with were in a league of their own, but you have very few if any subscribers that have more ksa (knowledge, skills and abilities) than you. Don’t get the big head and stay safe!! I’m loving Bert’s lookout materializing!

That's three quarters of the walls in place now and it is going to be a great room to relax and enjoy the views

There a bunch of safety Sallies out there these days Cecil, ironically they don't do anything, they just worry about safety all day. 👍🏽👍🏽

One suggestion, you might want to cover your OSB wall sheathing with a housewrap soon. You can see it is getting weathered and breaking down in grade already. It isn't meant to be exposed to the elements for such a lengthy time.

Looking good. It might be easier to do some of the deck before you do the roof or do a 2x6 header just below the top of the walls/stick frame the last wall in place....

Your probably not going to see this in time to help but we had a pair of vise grip pliers with a ring welded to them that we attached a rope to that would clamp on multiple things that needed to be brought up a roof such as OSB and we would clamp those pliers on to things on the ground and pull the rope lifting whatever I needed otherwise try to climb with

Okay the way I learnt it was there are common studs, king studs are the main stud next to a window or door opening, the Jack stud supports the header either window or doors from the bottom plate up, the cripple stud supports the window plate or as a filler above the header if needed. In many cases the header may extend all the way up to the top plate

Why would you bother sealing the window frames with insulation when the whole building is technically open to the elements.. This is not an enclosed building so you would have to seal the walls and subfloor; unlessI am missing the reason for foaming the windows..
@SkinnersOffGrid21 күн бұрын
Hello, this foam is a way to hold the windows in the openings..way better than screwing them in place using shims. This building will be insulated with a concrete floor when the build is complete. Cheers!
@user-ku3jw7ux2b21 күн бұрын
Thanks cecil.. After I made the post I thought I hadn't seen you nailing or screwing the window frames..
