Checkered Puffer Fish use their toxicity as a defense mechanism. The fish contains a poison that is a thousand times more lethal than cyanide. Most of the poison lies in the fish’s liver. When under duress from a predator, the fish puffs up and secretes its poison through its skin and spikes. If an animal or human eats this poison, it can be deadly as there is no antidote.
