I like all of your videos, but this one focused on a specific pattern is particularly interesting. I think this type of content would be great for a lot of your patterns. It gives so much insight regarding many considerations that could be helpful to understand before the start of the pattern. Please do more of these! ❤

I think I'll probably do a similar video for all of this year's designs! There will obviously be a lot of overlap with sizing advice etc but I'm sure there will always be some different points to make 😊

Even though I don't really have any plan to knit this garment in the near future (not that it's not nice, I just have way to many other things on my to do list with higher priority😶🌫) I found this video weirdly interesting haha. I really like the format of a chatty video going through all possible question marks one could have before committing to knitting a garment, and I also really appreciate getting a bit nerdy information about design choices and your thought process as a designer. Sorry for the wall of text, just wanted to say that I liked the video and hope there will be more in this format 😊

I definitely agree! I'd find more of these videos super interesting even for patterns I don't think I'll get around to knitting (and that goes doubly so for the ones that are actually on my to knit list).

haha I know the feeling! Out of curiosity, what other kinds of questions do you generally have? So I know what kind of topics to cover in future!
@elvatretton-juliaohm11 күн бұрын
@ Honestly I think you covered almost everything worth mentioning in this video, and I just enjoyed following along hearing about your process! Being a beginner knitwear designer myself I'm just realising how many design decisions that come along the way and it's both reassuring and fun to see someone else's process and how decisions inevitably change all the time, especially when it's someone as experienced as you ☺one thing on that topic that would be interesting to see/hear about is some kind of comparison between the original idea and the finished garment. Like if you have sketches or just tell us about how you envisioned the garment to be. I think that could be fun regardless if the result is very much like the initial idea or not!

Wow, Lily! Your videos never fail to inspire me! I absolutely love your design style and the way you share your creative process. This chatty and informative format is so interesting - it feels like we’re getting a glimpse into your world! Thank you for being so genuine and for always sharing your passion with us ✨ PS i think this is my absolute favourite design so far. Everything about it is perfectly thought through and the split hem gives it such a high end look

Love this format, Lily. Great insights into the construction and detailing of a design. And nice bringing your test knitters’ experiences into the mix too. Looking forward to more.

This was really helpful, particularly the section on choosing yarns and which yarns worked particularly well in testing. I'm often limited to ordering my yarn online without being able to feel it first, so having multiple examples to browse for a few attributes to look for on yarnsub is lovely.

Nice video, I think it's a great idea to explain the reasons for choosing the size and the whys on your jumper patton, I've been a little intimidated by modern pattons, i tend to use 1950-60 patterns, i have never done a top down, didn't know they were a thing till i started watching sewing and crafting in general on ty.❤

I haven't made any of your patterns yet, but I am definitely planning on doing so and I enjoy your videos very much. I really appreciate all the thought you put into it and especially that you consider how the garments fit a human body. And how different human bodies are. I cannot count the number of times I ended up ripping things out because the design is beautiful, but just not made to fit the human body well - and I am a standard size! XS/S. Garment construction and pattern writing/designing are two very different skills and in my opinion, not many knitwear designers have both.

Thank you! Sometimes I probably overthink things tbh 😅 Definitely two very different skill sets, and I find being both a maths-y and arts-y person helps!

@lilykatemakes It must consume a lot of your mental energy, but I personally really appreciate it when people overthink designs. I also have an eye for detail and can't stand puckering fabric, weird folds due to excess fabric, deformed stripes...

Gorgeous and fun design. I love the inspo!! I really enjoy hearing your process and reasons for charting vs. writing . I hope you follow this type of podcast for new patterns as I am someone who picks a yarn for a certain item and then don't like fabric or can't get proper gauge. Thank you and looking forward to what you've got for us in 2025 (and your cottage!!)

Thank you for this podcast - it was so helpful and will make the yarn buying and knitting process a lot more enjoyable. I do have one question which may vary from designer to designer but using the Checkerplate sweater as an example is the amount of ease added in when picking a size? For example, I am a 36" bust so I would pick size 3 in the "to fit bust size" but size 1 in the "finished bust size" because I do not want a lot of positive ease as I am very short (5'). So I am a bit confused but if I'm thinking correctly size 1 would give me the ease I'm looking for (depending on my gauge and yarn)??

Would you suggest a plant based fiber if so, any recommendations?
@lilykatemakes11 күн бұрын
I'd probably recommend a synthetic blend, such as cotton-acrylic. A 50/50 blend tends to give a yarn with more body than 100% plant fibre, which would be quite heavy and drapey 😊

Hi Lily Kate, I've been a fan of your designs and channel for awhile now and wanted to comment about your KZbin videos. I really enjoy the content and style however I think your mic is a bit off. Since you've been recording in the your awesome house, I think the bass is getting blown out every so often. It's not constant but sounds like you are in desperate need of clearing your throat. Since you don't seem to need to do that, I am thinking the mic is off. Wish you the best and hope this new Checkerplate pattern gets all the attention and praise I'm sure it deserves.
