Hi Summer, I think well done for giving it a go. Staying safe and not stretching your creativity will just keep you on the same spot; you never move forward. “Mistakes” are not mistakes in this situation, they are opportunities to learn and grow rather than remaking the same. I think, WELL DONE and I’m off now to buy the pattern and stretch myself the same way as you did even if I “fail”. You have shown me in this episode that it’s OK. Both colour choices worked so well, and even if they didn’t work together, I think that each half was beautiful. And I love the idea of doing a pattern mash-up!

Do not despair, because that sock serves as a great lesson in color theory by exemplifying the effect of two completely divided colorways used on the same sock, which gives the impression that two different socks were cut in halve and joined together. The pattern arrangement of shapes is not the problem, they look great together, and the color combination, though considered subjectively garish by some people, is not the problem, as any color combination can potentially work. The problem with that sock is the complete divide of the orange and pink colorways. The two colorways just need to be more integrated with each other, at least, to some degree across the sock pattern, to form a more a cohesive union of colors to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye, no matter what colors are used. 😉 I love your channel, and I am so glad that you are posting more often! 🥰

When you held up the two socks that you were planning to mash up, I thought it was an excellent idea. After you finished, I thought I would try again, but with brighter valued colors (?) There used to be an interior decorating show here in Canada that was about using colour and she her answer to "how do you know what colours go together " was "colours go together if you put them together " (I'm paraphrasing despite the quotations) But I often think of that when I'm watching your colour selections. They may be combinations I can't picture working, but they somehow look cohesive in the finished project. Every once in awhile it's not surprising to have one that just doesn't match the vision. I like the patterns together, but I'm less daring so I'd do both designs with the same 2 colours throughout or carry at least one of the colours into both patterns for continuity.

First, I love your hair! It is so cute! And I even got to see the back. It is the perfect length for you. Well done! You know, the idea was there, and I think it may have been the colors you chose. Maybe if you would have used a lighter shade of pink ( although I love that color) or a more intense shade of orange it may have worked. But then, what do I know…I can’t pick colors of paint for a wall! When I was looking at your choices at first, I thought…oh, yes, I can see those like flowers in a bouquet…in fact, I was eager to see the Egg Yolk for the heels and toes. You’re a master knitter! Your color choices, your styles, your creativity are unsurpassed. I watch a lot of knitting videos, and have dozens of books on the subject, but I tend to refer to you, always! The doubts often happens part way through a project, as you said, you need the whole picture, how all the colors interact together, how the fit is adjusted as each piece is completed. Glad you saw it through, and I do like the two patterns together, they have some similarities and the fleas pattern seems to echo part of the more complex foot pattern. Maybe the same two colors for the entire sock? Your enthusiasm for creating as always is infectious.

Hello Summer, I think the leg of the sock is lovely. The foot of the sock is lovely. I personally think there’s too much going on when they’re joined together . If the bottom of one sock was hot pink and cranberry the colors would make the sock look together. If you took the colors from the foot and used those in the top that would be calmer and more simple. You would still have done two patterns in one sock. Hope this is taken in the way I mean it. Maybe two patterns and all the colors are too much. You’re the best. I’ve branched out so much since I discovered you last April (2024) Love to Beasley.

The pink with the cream and orange... not a color problem, per se. It's tone and saturation of the colors. Take a black and white picture to see it.
