This saved me today - BUT HOW did you load the new sponge onto a sponge bar? What I ordered before today arrived with foam on one side and a black material on the other. No sticky backing. Help.

I buy a complete bar with the sponge already attached to it. There are KZbin videos showing how to replace it, but not by me!

Thank you. I did just find a supplier in Canada of the whole spongebar piece with sponge on it ($40!) I hope my repair works. :)

Sally, when I get sorted I would love to know about the leavers, I don't understand them. Thanks so much 🍀🇮🇪

My videos on pattern knitting will explain what the levers do, but ask if you don’t understand

Thanks for this nice video! Just one question , do you also need to replace the ‘plastic’ bar at the ribber?
@sallybutcherskalamundakrafts3 жыл бұрын
No, the plastic bars generally do not need replacing.

Thanks for the quick answer! I think I found the problem with the help of your video. I will try to solve it tomorrow.

Where do you buy new needle retainer bars like that? I have a vintage machine that uses the same type of needle retainer you've got, but I don't know where to get replacements. Thank you for your video, by the way. Very informative and helpful for newbies like me.

Hi. Thank you for the information. Where do I buy a new sponge bar? I have a singer 580. Its nearly the same as your machine. Could you send a link to buy a new sponge bar please. Regards Carol

It depends where you are located.

@@carolcook8029 sorry, I’m not familiar with suppliers in Australia. Try googling for a Silver Reed supplier - there is someone called Susan Glaus who supplies parts. Or EBay.

Sally where do I find your video explaining lavers, thanks 😊

Just search in KZbin for Pattern Knitting on a Silver Reed, and Knitting a Round Neck in Fairisle. These both cover the function of the side levers, and the Russell Levers

Thanks for the great video, do you happen to know off-hand if it is ok to store a knitting machine for a few months in its case without the sponge bar in? I have cleaned my KH 836 machine and sponge bar was flat and got a brand new one but would rather not install that incase it flattens again. Thanks
@sallybutcherskalamundakrafts3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s okay to store without the sponge bar. But wrap the bar in clingfilm, as they can dry out. And keep the machine flat, don’t store on its end.

Hello, sorry I’m not sure exactly which thickness is correct, but most new sponges are 10-12mm thick.
