Amazing video! I was searching for the ways of understanding how tension works on my knitting machine. Thank you for this detailed video❤

I found this so helpful - I've just begun with both a standard and a chunky machine, and have experienced the loops at the end of the row. I appreciate your time and generosity in sharing your experience with us!

I have just got a knitmaster 530 as I cannot knit and figured I'd learn the machine way instead. Was struggling for ages with why the first time I set it all up i got a reasonable swatch but every other time it jammed or was too loose. Watched this video and low and behold.... I forgot to feed the yarn through the actual tension disks (what an idiot!) Thank you! You"ve saved me a lot of frustration :)

Grazie per i tuoi consigli, molto utili e dettagliati. I tuoi insegnamenti sono particolarmente validi perchè non si limitano solo ad istruzioni per l'uso della macchina, ma spiegano anche il funzionamento della macchina stessa. Brava!

Hi, it is an EC1 pattern controller. It reads Mylar sheets for patterning on the electronic machines. The Silver Reed electronic system is modular - the machines themselves have no onboard electronics. The older models came with an EC1, and there are other more sophisticated readers too. These days if buying an electronic, you need an external programme like Designaknit to run the stitch patterns, but that programme does a lot more besides. It has full garment patterning capability and interactive knitting, so if you are technically minded, it’s a great thing. I’m still learning it myself!

Hello Sally, I have just bought a Singer 321 but I need a cast on comb. Are the Brother and others the same as the ones for singer? There seems to be a big difference in price on eBay. Regards, JennyB.

@@JennyB-oj6sk a cast on comb is not necessary (I never use one), but if you wish to use one, the Brother comb is suitable.

Thank you very much for this video. I have the feeling that waxing the yarn has a strong impact - yarn I waxed during the heat wave tends to knit tighter than normal. Maybe it is overwaxed, and I need to set up my yarn winder and the polywax lumps in the cellar 😂. Also, it is astonishing for me as a beginner how much small deviations will add up and how rarely they cancel each other out.

Please can you help Sally. When I first started knitting I didn't put the yarn in the top tension properly and I could knit a lot of rows this way. Now I have correctly put tension right the carriage gets stuck a lot. Why is this? Thank you

Hello Sally, I am French and one of your subscribers even though I don't speak English or American. I really appreciate your videos. I have a lace carriage for the Silver Reed SK280 knitting machine and I don't know how to make a neckline since it can't work in shortened rows. Could you please make a video. Thank you for your help, Sincerely, Myriam

I see your yarn is on the cone and winds off from the outside. Cakes usually wind from the inside. Does it make a difference to the tension to the mast? Which one do you prefer?
@sallybutcherskalamundakrafts
@sallybutcherskalamundakrafts Жыл бұрын
Hi Else, I’m lucky enough to have lots of spare cones for my winder, and I prefer to leave them in and unwind from the outside. Even if I take the plastic cord out, I still unwind from the outside. Just a personal preference, it doesn’t seem to make any difference. If the cake gets a bit lively when there’s not much weight to it, I pop it in an empty tissue box to stop it leaping all over the table. I also keep my yarns on the table, because I have a double sided one. Again, 99.9% of the time it makes no difference.

where do you get the 10 cm. i have knit exactly as you describe in another video and my measurements is exactly like yours. but i don't understand the 10 cm part because if i measure my 'swatch it gives me 14x15 cm?
@sallybutcherskalamundakrafts
@sallybutcherskalamundakrafts 6 ай бұрын
Don’t measure your swatch with a ruler! The green scale calculates the EQUIVALENT number of stitches and rows per 10cm. But that’s not the number of rows and stitches that you knitted so of course it won’t measure 10x10cm.
