Excellent videography! I can certainly appreciate how difficult this is to film and edit. All the best, Tom

Another Great Video! Where you confirm the accuracy of your instruments and verify the performance of several auto-collimator instruments. I'm very happy you got the digital camera to shoot through the eyepiece of the instrument. I noticed your were using the video to announce and note the micron comparator setting. Then you made the composite video showing the micron indicator alongside the auto-collimator reticle. Very very good! I went to subscribe to your Patreon - unfortunately found the cost outside my tight budget. Sorry about that. Please allow me to help with any further camera problems you may run into. Wishing you all the best.

The next video will transform the same stand, it will be supplemented with new features. A straight edge measuring 1070x60x120mm will be installed on it. With an accurate bubble level, I can control a surface of 1070x60mm, due to the special design of this stand, with an accuracy of less than one micron over the entire surface. Thus, as a result of control and surface treatment, the exact plane of this straight edge 1070x60 mm will be produced. Submicron precision is implied. I think it will be very interesting.

Hello, I like very much your videos. I have a comment about autocollimator resolution. I do not understand the rating of the autocollimators (ac.): you showed ac. with 0.5 arc second resolution and even with 0.2 arc second resolution. The ac. equation says that theoretically the smallest resolvable angular deviation is theta = D/(2*F), where D is a small distance in the focal plane (it can bee e.g. the line width of the reticle), F is the focal length of the ac. lens. But this calculation does not take into account the light diffraction. The angular resolution of an objective lens or mirror is given by theta = 1.22*lambda/D, where lambda is the wavelength of the light in microns, and D is the diameter of the optics in decimeters. Hence for a D=50mm lens the theoretical angular resolution limit for 550nm light is 1.35 arc second. Way beyond the resolution rating of the autocollimators you showed us. In your video around 12:30 we can see, that the microcator can indicate few micron changes in the alignment of the test bar and mirror, but this deviation can be barely seen on the autocollimator image. Best regards, Zsolt Kis

Hello! The autocollimator objective lens diameter is 0.2 arcseconds 60mm. The focal length is about 900mm. Can this additional information help you figure it out?
@zk69122 ай бұрын
@@gena_bazarko Well, I can repeat now the above calculations with the true numbers. So the the ac. equation gives theta1 = D/(2*F) = 60/(900*2) = 0.002/(2*900) = 0.00000111111 radian, where I assumed that the reticle linewidth is 2 microns. This angle corresponds to 0.23 arcseconds, which is given in the spec. list of your ac. However, the optics limits this theoretical resolution due to diffraction. The diffraction equation gives theta2 = 1.22*lambda/D = 1.22*0.55E-3/60 = 0.0000111 Radians, which corresponds to 2.3 arcseconds. If we image now the 2 microns wide reticle line back to the focal plane of the 900mm focal length objective we obtain 0.01mm linewidth. This line broadening is due to the effect of diffraction at the edge of the finite size objective lens. One can do nothing about it. To get smaller linewidth in the image plane and better resolution one should increase the diameter of the objective lens. In your case one should use 5 times larger objective lens to achieve the theoretical resolution of the ac.

Thank you for the theoretical information you provided. I will try to understand this information, but at the moment I do not understand it in detail. I need to expand my knowledge of optics. But at the same time, the problem you mentioned is somehow solved. If you install a good camera on the autocollimator lens and display the image on the monitor, it will be possible to register even a smaller angular deviation than 0.2 arc seconds. Since now, when working with an autocollimator, I do not use additional devices and control measurements simply by eye, and my vision is no longer perfect due to my age, I can confidently say that with an autocollimator of 0.2 arc seconds, and this is its sensitivity determined by the manufacturer, I undoubtedly see, at a minimum, a deviation of 0.5 arc seconds. I would like to understand the theory of optics as well as you do).

@@gena_bazarko Helo, If you give an email address I can send you more detailed explanation. And yes, with the help of a camera and image processing you can get finer details than the resolution formula says.

8:05 So its proof that without camera you can not detect even 1 arsec. In actual straightness measurement only by your eye you will not be able to check down to 1 arcsec. Error gona be more then 1 arcsec coz resolution of optics on is not great

What kind of screw do you use for height adjustment? Motion seems to be very smooth and precise for 1 micron increments.
@Gersberms Жыл бұрын
This is very cool. I know nothing about optical instruments so it took me a while to understand what was going on. So the autocollimator is on the right, shining light to a mirror, and back again, measuring the angle of the mirror? And you're saying it can be used to measure the flatness of a large surface? Very interesting, it makes sense because you can't put a very large table on a granite slab to see if it's flat. Also, if you were manufacturing a granite table it needs to be measured. Very impressive resolution! I wish you the best of luck with your business and your channel.
@gena_bazarko Жыл бұрын
This is true. The autocollimator measures the angle by which the position of the mirror plane has changed relative to the optical axis of the autocollimator with an accuracy sufficient to control surface plates or pairs of linear movement of machine tools (curvature of a plane or line up to one micron at a distance of a meter.
