You said you were currently at 5 degrees on your pinion angle, is there a maximum tolerable degree or is it all up to if you get vibrations?

I’ve found you can get away with about 8° on the pinion, assuming you have a SYE. But it’s probably more of a case by case situation. Ideally for a SYE, 2° for leaf setups or 0° for coil setups is where ya want to be.

By the way i have and fj80 and been dealing with vibrations after 4inch lift so to my understanding i want my pinion to be at zero degrees since i dont have a double cardan?

So you want the angles to be equal and opposite for the type of driveshaft that has one u joint on each side. So the angle off the transfer case to the driveshaft is some angle, so you want the angle off the axle to the driveshaft to be the same. Assuming it’s coil sprung. If it’s leaf sprung, you want an extra 2° on the pinion angle. So if the angle off the transfer case is 5°, you want the pinion angle to be 7° for a leaf setup

Is there a method for finding control arm length?
@xj_overlander2 жыл бұрын
I’ve always opted for measuring the wheelbase. So measure from center of the rear wheel to center of the front wheel. Needs to be 101.4”. So you can just say “it’s 100.5” now, so my axle needs to go forward almost an inch, so the lower control arms needs to be about an inch longer than what I have now” If you know your way around some trig, you can do the math to figure it out perfect the first time. But there’s also charts online for what you should aim for based on a specific lift height. Google “XJ control arm length chart” and it’ll pop up

What app did u use to find the angle?

I just used the iPhone built in “measure” app. Though just about any smartphone will have an app you can download for an inclinometer. Aim for one that can read to tenths of a degree, rather than whole degrees. More precision

I just had a new driveshaft put in and my car is making horrible noises. Scraping sound and sounds like a motor bike or air brakes sound when I’m slowing down without brakes. It also makes noise when I turn. Maybe they got the angles wrong. I’m so upset. I only had a slight vibration so decided to change it but now I’m regretting.
