Fantastic 😍 as an ex-pat, this makes my heart ache, although this England has passed into history. Still, an absolutely wonderful view of the old country, and a fabulous source for railway modelling

This is fantastic. My only previous knowledge of this beautiful but not forgotten line was in print and by photos. This film has brought the line to life for me. The quality of archive film is excellent as is the audio. Most interesting to see Cheddar station and the vintage coaches and cars trying to get up Cheddar Gorge. Looks like the awful and depressing shanties and shops which now despoil the gorge have not yet arrived.

I have cycled quite a bit of the route from Cheddar to Yatton. Hopefully more of it will become rideable, especially the stretch from Wells to Cheddar. There are three East-West rail corridors long defunct hereabouts. The S&D from Highbridge to Evercreech south and the North Somerset line from St Philips to Frome, via Clutton and Radstock, North of this line. Bits of the S&D branch from Bawdrip to Eddington Burtle are cyclable, so to the North Somerset from Brislington to Whitchurch.

Wonderful archive, the Wells driver Harry Viles on redundancy transferred to Bristol Bath Road, quite a contrast. The Witham signalman was Tiny Wilcox, he was six foot six plus tall. The guard on the platform with the later style uniform was Westbury guard Bert Back, all first class railwaymen.
