Well presented John. I just sold my GoPro 10 with mod & purchased the Action 4 & added the Dji mic2 single unit via bluetooth. Works great. I use to film & attach to model Rc aircraft flying over our Beach here on the Great ocean Road. On larger aircraft i have also tried the X3 for 360 views. Love the quick release on the Action 4. Well done!🇦🇺🦘

Chris in Canada here. Hi. I like the Pocket 3 results BUT for me it is too fragile and I am too rough on things so the Action 4 with DJI mic 2 is my preference. My only beef is that I don’t think you can attach two mics with it wirelessly yet, just one.

Hi John. I also gave up on GoPros.I really like the Action 4 but have also recently tried the Insta360 Ace Pro. Low light performance is amazingly good and I feel much more at home with it. The field of view on the Action is extremely wide. The Insta feels almost like a halfway house between a full camera and an Action cam. Hope you’re well and had a good break. I’ve been away with the Insta and honestly, shots in cathedrals and churches look amazing even with low lighting. For sound, I’m using a small plug in Edifier mic on a right angle connection directly into camera. I sometimes use the Pocket 2, but for me, the fragility of the gimbal is a bit an issue.

Ey up 👍…. So glad you have commented Ian…. Because i got the Acepro as soon as it came out…. I loved using it and the audio straight from camera was brilliant….. loved the flip up screen…. I fell out with it pretty quickly as i could not fall in love with the image…. It just seemed to be over processed… i just couldn’t alter it in post…. It is so subjective i know…. I am actually very jealous that you like it because apart from the image i was thinking it was the one for me…. Good to get some feedback form you pal…. 👍👍👍

The low light (pure video) can be a bit processed I think, but I just prefer it to grainy images. Actually, I haven’t used the ‘normal’ profile yet. Stayed on the flat one which most of the time (for me) has enough saturation and even contrast sometimes. Also, they have now made hdr switchable so you can turn it off. Some people didn’t like the camera being permanently stuck in hdr mode. (Although the Action 4 is as well) I took a video for KZbin recently in Chichester Cathedral. The light was really poor but the Ace seemed to be quite unfazed by it. Actually, in other parts of that video (which I didn’t post - just the cathedral) I even took video in a crypt. I got to the same stage as you I think with the GoPros. Even up in Liverpool, I was with Dave Harry and his 8 froze. Nothing with the Action 4 or the Ace though. The Pocket 3 is just a bit delicate for me. I want to chuck the camera in and out of a bag and I’m always ultra careful with the mechanism of the Pocket 2 gimbal. The camera is great but you have to treat that gimbal with respect. Also, not great in rain. Action 4 is a lovely little camera though I think. One thing I hate though is that it’s field of view is so wide that it can make me look even fatter than I am at certain distances! I’ve slowed down on KZbin. Finally had a heart operation for my AFib. It worked thank goodness and I’m able to get around without fainting again. So many times, I was making a KZbin video and passing out between shots!! Heart was so erratic that I became quite unstable but stayed as active as I could to avoid putting on weight and becoming stuck in the house. Now I can run again!

I own both and tend to use the Osmo Pocket 3 more but agree the hard case is crap. I have ordered a couple of different ones made by sunnylife so hopefully they will be better. I will use the action 4 when in a more challenging environment as the pocket 3 is not that tough.

Nice review. I’m heading to Spain this summer to walk the Camino with my 14 year old daughter. I think we will take both. I have a Pocket 2 with a Scotty Makes Stuff case. That case is very nice and protective (and relatively inexpensive). They make a case for the Pocket 3… I will be buying it when I purchase the Pocket 3. 😂Now I need to sell my Pocket 2.

The quality of the pocket 3 is so much better than the 4 - the 4 has lots of compression artefacts. I recon you should've kept the pocket 3. The quality of the pocket 3 is what you get from uploading a 4k video to YT, and you've only uploaded 1080p.

I totally agree with you…. I was blown away by the quality of the pocket 3…. It is the better camera definitely…. I just couldn’t settle with its fragility compared to the action 4…. Hey thanks for your comments much appreciated…👍👍👍
