Before Kapil motivated the team, they did not believe that they can defeat the West Indians. It was Kapil who drilled self-belief in their minds and see how the team changed after Kapil showed in practice how it is done. Then the team just got charged and defeated every team that came -Australia (by 118 runs), England(by 6 wickets), West Indies (by 43 runs). Even in the final it continued. If Kapil had not caught Viv India's 183 was just going to be a cakewalk for them. That's why it was Kapil Kapil. But Srikkanth got full viewership. Because it was WC final and Gavaskar got out on 2, so the full focus was soon on Srikkanth and Amarnath. The experts enjoyed & appreciated their batting. They used the word "ebullient" for Srikkanth's batting in final.

The first ever die hard female fan for srikkanth was me only..coz those days all gals were only dying for Ravi shastri/ Kapil Dev/ Roger Binny and sometimes Sandeep Patil..i had bought specially exercise note book to carry in all my engg.years with Srikkanth batting photo on cover page..so everyone would look at me differently when i was showing off my book while holding it seperately..lol...it was just highly coincidence that i met personally after a gap of 20 years - that too in unexpected way in a temple for my utter surprise..and thanked god profusely for such a wonderful timing and meeting..thanks a lot srikkanth for your time and energy. As a kid, Cheeka and Kapil were my favorite players! I still remember how depressed I was the day Cheeka announced his retirement from Cricket. I think it was in the year 1992. He was dropped from Indian team after WC’92, and later when he wasn’t picked for South Zone team, he announced his retirement. I had tears whole evening sitting alone in Victoria play ground near chadarghat (Hyderabad). When Kapil announced his retirement in 1994, I thought the whole world came to an end. Couldn’t fathom how life would carry on!

I was mere 8yrs old when 1983 world cup was aired in radios... In remote town in Odisha, people were carrying their own radios on the road and was letting kids what happend... that was I know cricket is game and excited to learn about. Thanks Cheeka sir bringing back those memory. 83 team brought india together and I still think its patriotic drive which has started and continued till today. Thank you for making history

If there is strike, the match should not have happened. If the match happens as per schedule, why the video coverage alone is getting affected by Strike? This match was of no interest for the broadcasters that time, as India was not a cricket crazy nation that time.

Yesterday I watched Ind Vs WI one day match held in 1991 at Perth. During that match you held a catch running like Kapil to take catch in the historic 1983 final and we bowled out WI at 126 resulting a tie. Hope you remember!

you are so right about Kapil Dev as he was an allrounder and also you were another proud product of India too. I am a Sri lankan tamil and did enjoy watching you play and I was thrilled when you walked in to bat. In general the Indian cricketers were fantastic specially during the 80's.

No question, Kapil Dev is one of the greatest cricketer produced by India. Will give you either by bowling or batting or fielding or a combination of these. Gave self belief and never die attitude to Indians. Earlier cricketers like Lala Amarnath, Mohinder Amarnath were also like Kapil Dev. Kapil Dev was dropped because Gavaskar did not want him to have the record of the continuous number representing India in test matches. Gavaskar and Tendulkar represent very talented but very selfish cricketers who are after records, political correctness. India has moved away from that phase. We saw that the current team is cohesive and play to win and not personal records. Enjoyed your energy and narration in Tamil, Cheeka. You were my father’s favorite player and his Datthu Pillai - adopted son.
