I wont lie, most of the time i prefer the Black Flag version of the Shanty to your youtube version, However, this rendition of Cheerily men was fantastic!

@@solcloudchaser4988 Those black flag versions are very difficult to beat. We really did a thing there. I’m not trying to replicate that in these versions most of the time. I’m deliberately going for something else. I think it’s cool that people can prefer one or the other. Thanks for your message.

With just a few exceptions, shanties are sung in major keys in the straight (unvarnished) rather than curly (embellished) style. For robust sound, thirds and fifths work well. On the other hand, in traditional music whatever feels and sounds good is just fine.
