As a lifelong fan of Tolkien and someone who has read the books half a dozen times at least over the years, this gave me some serious chills. Geoff’s voice is so powerful and resonant, perfect for this kind of song. More impressive still is his ability to arrange the music in such a way that it’s becomes more than just a song. Geoff, if you see this, please, I beg you, do the song of Beren and Luthien next. Of all of Tolkien’s poetry, that one is the most beautiful. They're not that far apart in age, though? In the Hobbit, Fili was 82 years old, Kili was 77, and Gimli would've been 62. So he was only 15 years younger than the youngest dwarf there. It's not "Gimli's ancestors;" Fili and Kili were literally his slightly-older cousins who died tragically too soon. Which makes it all the more tragic to me, because Moria wasn't just the home of Gimli's distant ancestors. He also lost friends and family there, too, people he personally knew and loved.

I have always enjoyed Clamavi De Profundis’ version of this song, and I am in love with the ways that you have taken inspiration from their delivery and performance. But the thing you really do best is tell the story. I see and hear and feel all the emotion, all the loss and the hope, the wistfulness and the joy, in every aspect of what you have done with this. You bring Tolkien’s exquisite lyrics to life for me in a way I’ve never experienced before, I understand and feel them so much more deeply. I can’t help thinking, this is what Tolkien meant for us to feel when we hear these words. And then of course, I break down and cry for a minute, cause how else am I supposed to react to that thought? Thank you, once again, for breaking and filling my heart in ever evolving ways.

HOW DID I END UP HERE? Ah got it: Geoff brought me here with his absolutely stunning arrangement; starting with the lonely droplets of water and the mysterious, spherical background music that immediately catapulted me into the depths of Moira, followed by the lonely voices, each of which surprises me with its unique beauty (yes despite coming all from the same guy) that finally blend beautifully into each other and enchant me with their ethereal sound. The subtle sounds in the background (like the metallic hammering) perfectly capture the aura of Khazad-Dûm, emphasizing the vastness and splendor of the halls. The instrumentation swells further, adding epic drums and strings to tell the story of the past glorious days and the splendor of it. The sounds of forging swords and drawn blades paint heroic times of the dwarven folk on the canvas. Finally, everything returns to the present reality of the abandoned place, the singing and music reverting to the sadness and loneliness, but still retaining a sense of hope and a hint of glory. Like no other, you really know how to create an epic atmosphere and take me on a journey with your music! I'm sure that's exactly what Tolkien wanted us to feel when he wrote that poem! I love your commitment to beards, hair and costumes and the accurate recreation of the set. Kudos to Kathy as well! The backdrop looks great and Eli did a great job with the lighting!!! The beam of light coming from the top corner and the colors changing - gorgeous! Also, the way you make the other "dwarf ghosts" appear and fade out is brilliant! Thank you, Geoff, for another masterpiece!

I had to explain it was all you. lol He was suitably impressed.

What a beautiful cap to the tale that began in Misty Mountains with four warriors about to embark on an epic journey, continued in I See Fire with them grimly preparing to face near-certain doom and hoping they will not be forgotten, and now ended with Gimli singing of his people's glorious history, his ancestors (those same four lost warriors) appearing with him as ghosts or memories - as if their prayer to be remembered has been fulfilled. I had tears in my eyes from the first verse on. Gorgeous. The harmonies and arrangement are just perfect, but I also want to shout out that stunning instrumental track. I keep hearing so many fascinating details (the clever use of forge tools and weapons as instruments sprinkled throughout, for one). The dynamic flow of the arrangement keeps what could be a repetitive song in constant movement and feels like proper storytelling. As an enormously passionate LOTR fan, I deeply appreciate the thoughtfulness you put towards these "dwarfish" covers, Geoff. Although this finishes out the trilogy of Middle Earth covers in a satisfying way, I wouldn't say no to more covers in this world since you do such great justice to it.

This is story-telling at it's best! For me, telling a story through song always makes it more memorable, with the melody and rhyming making it easier to remember the story itself. Geoff is just so good at this, it's not even fair. Not only do we get the beautiful arrangement and instruments, but Geoff brought back not only the dwarves from Misty Mountains and I See Fire, but added Gimli into the mix (although Gimli appears to have been working out quite a bit!). The dwarves haven't lost their touch with a song! While I See Fire is still my favorite video on Geoff's channel, this one is not far behind, and from a story-telling perspective, is a little better IMO. But all of the dwarven songs have been wonderful, and this video just adds to their splendor. Kudos to everyone involved in the making of this video - Geoff, Kathy, Layne, Tony, Eli, Rick, and everyone else who helped out in creating this amazing video - and let's not forget Tommy, who supervised Geoff as he worked in the garage!

They feel joy for what was, sorrow for all that has ceased to be, and hope for what might yet be reborn.

Geoff enchanted me again and transported me to a magical location of a bygone era. This journey began in the shadows of the Misty Mountains and continued with the melodies of I See Fire and now I am here in the depths of Moira. Tolkien's tales and poems come to life and become reality, and memories live forever. Five beautiful voices ( Yes, I know it's only one! ) Slowly melt into each other and build a harmony that even the tiniest speck of dust in Khazad-Dûm can shake. The background music is amazing! Starting with the sound of soft drops of water, which nevertheless fall so sharply into the lake of silence of memories and the metallic sounds that evoke the sound of swords daggers bards, the mystical sound of strings and drums...As it all slowly unfolds and melts into one. There is a lot of feeling in this beautifully constructed song and memories... memories of warriors... I'd love to hear more... And the view is really impressive! The background, the lighting, the costumes, the make-up and the great direction deserve special thanks! Now I don't want to list names, but everyone did a fantastic job! Thanks for this masterpiece!

I think this is the best out of the three dwarven songs. And the way he lingers on "Kazah-dûm" brings so much emotion although I haven't yet figured out why exactly. Stunning!❤

I’m not crying. My eyes are just sweating. This is the kind of art that we get when passionate fans truly care about the material. Thank you Geoff for such amazing work with LOTR music I felt like I was truly in middle earth listening to Gimli. I am a Tolkien loving geek girl and I am so glad for the day youtube recommended Geoff’s version of Misty Mountains Cold. When the teaser came out for I See Fire I became a Patron. This song and video are a chef’s kiss addition to the Dwarves saga. The vocals, the arrangement, setting, costuming and overall storytelling are so on point. There are so many amazing little details. Even more I love the honor this gives to both Tolkiens work and the original arrangement by Clamavi De Profundis. The hard work and heart shine through.

I can't stop coming back to this one. This is just smooth as butter. In each vocal range, your tone is so rounded and gorgeous, with just the right amount of spin to your voice, while keeping the vibrato subtle so the blend stays perfect. I keep trying to listen to other bass groups, but I am always left saying, "I want Geoff's voice!" because no one else has such a beautiful tone! You have spoiled me for other bass singers. No one else compares in any of the ranges you use in these productions where you sing multiple parts. While I've always been in awe of your genuine brilliance as an arranger, what continues to surprise me is that each *performance* outdoes the previous - you keep, mind-bendingly, finding ways to improve! I just can't even grok! (And if you get my use of "grok," you're as big a nerd as I am! LOL) Kudos to the whole brilliant team!

"When Durin woke and walked alone... He named the nameless hills and dells..." There's something about this part of the song, this specific bit melodically that I really love. It goes from the really deep voice of (I think) Thorin, to the other Dwarf with a higher voice, it is really really soothing to the ears. The beat also starts here so I believe that's part of it too. I've been a bit obsessed with you recently Mr. Castellucci, you have a magnificent voice, thank God for giving you this natural talent and thank you for practicing so much and gracing our ears with your hard work built upon said talent.

I have loved this song since I first heard it, listening to EVERY SINGLE VERSION I could find, including the recitation from John Ryes Davies himself as Gimli! I kept thinking how much I wanted to hear Geoff do this one, especially after Misty Mountains and I See Fire. There are no words to adequately express how loudly I squealed when I saw this drop! Sir... You are epic! This is epic! And it is now my FAVORITE version of this piece and I will probably play it over and over and over again for the foreseeable future!
